Quote:The RNC ... is mostly a shell and raises relatively little for its presidential candidate outside of that candidate’s own war chest and supportive PACs.
Quote: rxwinePossibly just another mistaken prediction, but this article suggests Trump doesn't have enough liquidity to run in the general election, in part because he already alienated many big donors. That's even if his smaller donors pony up.
In a strange way, this could help Trump.
If he had a large war chest, he could flap his mouth ad infinitum on the tube, and say something - a LOT of things - where he'd hang himself.
With a limited budget, he'd be in less flap-mouth danger. It's sort of a reputation-protective Golden muzzle.

Skipping that one Fox News debate lost him Iowa....
But nothing he has said has hurt him.
Quote: ams288They're blowing that poll out of proportion.
11% are less likely to vote for him, 22% are more likely to vote for him. 66% remain unchanged.
The vast majority of people have already made up their minds on Trump (and they hate his guts).
About 35-40% of the Republican primary electorate loves him. What proportion of the general electorate is that? Not enough to get to the magical 538...
Magical 538? You mean ALL the electoral votes in the country? That would indeed be quite magical. Thankfully Trump (or anyone else) only needs 270 (or 538/2 + 1) to win. Hence the website 270towin.com.
This was my first time at this particular polling place. The law says exit pollsters/whoever must be further than 100 feet from the voting building. This put them in the middle of the parking lot. They had cones set up at the 100' mark, and all the pollsters were standing by the cones.
So, if you didn't want to talk to the pollsters, all you had to do was find a parking space inside the cones, which is what I did. Hope I didn't skew the exit polls!

Haha good point.
In that case, Trump won't be able to get to the magical 538/2 +1 either...
Quote: JoemanJust voted in FL this morning. Had been kicking myself for not Early Voting, but there ended up being no line at all at my precinct, though the news reported possible delays.

I've never seen an exit pollster in my life.
I've also never had to wait in a line to vote. Every time I just stroll right in and vote.
I guess I'm spoiled (or maybe I've just always lived in rich suburbs where polling places are overstaffed)...
Lines at my precinct were crazy for the 2012 general. Since then, I've done Early Voting, except I ran out of time this election.Quote: ams288I've never seen an exit pollster in my life.

It's not always pollsters, but sometimes supporters for a certain candidate or ballot initiative. They have to be 100' from the door to the building, and there's usually some sort of 'line of demarcation' at the 100' mark where they stand around, waiting to pounce. I usually ignore them, but this time I was able to avoid them altogether.

Nate Silver seems to predict best when he predicts AFTER the voting has already taken place. Ballotcraft, is probably more accurate.
I classify them as election litter. Disgusting
You want to advertise, buy billboard space or place your sign on private property.
I rode my bike over to the polling place to vote
Noticed several small campaign signs on the side of the road and the medium
After voting, rode my bike over to these signs on public property along the road and in the median strip
I often pick up trash in my neighborhoodso I picked up these signs. They're trash on public property
Once I am at the median strip on my bike picking up election litter, I noticed a guy is video taping me
I yell over that I am picking up trash on public property.
He flashes a badge from across the street and orders me to come over.
I laugh and say come over here from the median strip to the badge guy across the very busy street.
I ignore him and pick up some more signs and ride my bike home with the trash.
I've been wavering as to which scenario is best for the Democrats: Trump wrapping up the nomination early or a long messy slog to the convention in July. I've been leaning towards the latter, but I just don't know.
It's hard to imagine how a 3rd party "true conservative" nominee could do anything but help elect Hillary in November.

Its about getting to a fractured convention without Trump having under 50%

I hate to disappoint people who think everyone hates Hillary, but that sentiment just keeps not adding up the longer the race goes on.

He could very well win the nomination.
1. If Trump doesn't get the 1237 he needs for the first ballot at convention during the primaries, there will not be a nominee on the first ballot.
2. Almost no delegates are committed beyond the first ballot.
3. If Trump doesn't get it on the first ballot, he is unlikely to ever get it, because delegates are party faithfuls, not Trump faithfuls, and they don't like what he's doing to their party.
4. Ted Cruz is hated by nearly all the same party faithfuls, even worse than Trump.
5. Oh, look, there's John Kasich, positive, experienced, decent conservative. And still in it.
Proud to say I voted for Kasich today, even though he lost in FL (where he didn't campaign). I don't agree with much he says he'll do (it's the primaries), but he's a decent man and well respected for good reason.
Had to laugh at all the numbskulls who thought they could just go vote without having registered as a member of the party they wanted to vote in. The newsies only mentioned that requirement 1000 times in the last year here. What's that you say? Florida voting laws are unfair? Really? Just noticing that now, are ya, stooges?

?????
I'm a Bernie supporter
You actually think I will vote for Trump
Where does this come from?
Quote: WizardofnothingCan someone who is well spoken explain why anyone could be for Hillary or Bernie,
You mean the person or what they stand for? Or both?
Quote:Social liberalism is a political ideology that seeks to find a balance between individual liberty and social justice. Like classical liberalism, social liberalism endorses a market economy and the expansion of civil and political rights and liberties, but differs in that it believes the legitimate role of the government includes addressing economic and social issues such as poverty, health care, and education.
That's it as far as I'm concerned, as far as the subject matter. But you also asked about Bernie. I don't feel aligned with that much socialism as Bernie would prefer, so I'm not a true Bernie supporter, though I am at least sympathetic.
I don't consider myself well-spoken, but no one else came forward.
As to the persons, well, there is no one else running on that kind of platform, or perhaps I could choose someone else.

My window is wide open if you want to bet on a hypothetical Clinton/Trump election. I'll bet in the thousands on Clinton.
Quote: WizardMy window is wide open if you want to bet on a hypothetical Clinton/Trump election. I'll bet in the thousands on Clinton.
Every single assumption/prediction about Trump
has been wrong so far. Every one. Why are you so
convinced. There's nothing to base it on. In fact,
Trump has nothing but energy in his campaign,
and Hillary has zero. Her rallies are like wakes.
I don't think Trump wins a general with less than 20% of Hispanic vote, and don't see a path for him to get more than that given the damage already done there. Putting him on the ballot would be a mistake IMO, too polarizing, too many people hate him, I think he's unelectable. Jeb, Marco, Kasich I think would all have fared better among undecided voters, I think Republican voters are digging their own grave in 2016 if they get what they're voting for in the primary season.
Quote: mcallister3200too many people hate him, .
Don't you find it odd that every day we're
reminded how much Trump and Hill are
hated, how dismally low their popularity
stats are. Yet they both win primary after
primary. Isn't that just a little suspicious?
I never voted for anybody I hated, who
the heck is voting for them? Trump has
20-30 thousand people at some of his
rallies. Doesn't make any sense, does it.
Quote: WizardofnothingCan anyone explain to me why kasich is celebrating a win in his home state when he cannot possibly win the election it just sounds beyond stupid guy wins 1 of 27 states I just pisses me off that he is still in the race
He is celebrating because denying Trump the 66 Ohio delegates was a huge step toward a contest convention where Trump doesn't get to 1237. Kasich could be nominated in such a scenario, but the more salient point is that it's incredibly unlikely Trump will be nominated under that scenario.
ETA: terapined beat me to it, in the next post LOL. I should really catch up on threads before hitting the post button.
