Quote: AyecarumbaI really hated, "The Wall"
O.o
I was just talking this week how it’s odd that I can’t really stand Led Zeppelin. Or AC/DC. Or Lynyrd Skynyrd. My fellow employees have begun calling me un-American as a result lol =)
But Pink Floyd will always hold a place in my heart. Sure, some of it I played out to much, and some of it makes me feel weird as I fall into a semi-flashback, but theirs is a sound that is so distinct and unique that they should be their own genre.
I think our kid’s kids will still be having moments when they “discover” The Dark Side of the Moon and will be just as blown away as we were and, in my case, as my parents were.
1. Beatles vs. Stones.
2. Who vs. Jethro Tull
3. Traffic vs. Guess Who (or Cream)
4. Hendrix vs. Clapton.
Negative bonus point question:
x. Little River Band vs. England Dan and John Ford Coley.....
On the same token, did Pink Floyd record any album other than "The Wall"? And did the movie come before or after the record?
Besides, Rush rules (until Exit Stage Left or Moving Pictures, I forget).
Nareed- perhaps you've heard of "dark side of the moon",
Quote: PaigowdanI gave it to Zep by a hair. Love 'em both. Also good questions (easier):

1. - The only good Beatles were the trippy Beatles. Stones are just bleh. Winner - Beatles.
2. - I don't like The Who. I do like Tull. But "The Seeker" is epic. Winner - The Who.
3. - Ummm...? Gonna have to sing a bit so I know who you're talking about =p (I do know Cream)
4. - C'mon, really? Voodoo Chile vs Tears in Heaven? Castels Made of Sand vs Change the World? Redhouse vs Wonderful Tonight? Crosstown Traffic vs Layla? All Along the Watchtower vs... err... lol. You should be ashamed for even having the gall to ask such a question ;)
Do you mean like Black Dog, Communication Breakdown, When The Levee Breaks or Rock and Roll among many others? I can't remember any.Quote: NareedDid Zeppelin record anything other than "Stairway to Heaven"?
Quote: Sabretom2Nareed- perhaps you've heard of "dark side of the moon",
Yes, of course. that's the area of the Moon, somewhat smaller than half, that is never visible from the surface of the Earth, due to Earth's tidal lock on the Moon at the moment (it will change in a few billion years or so as Earth slows down rotationally due ot the Moon's influence). The name, though, is a misnomer, as that side of the Moon gets as much sunlight as the rest. it doesn't get any Earthlight, though.
what has that got to do with the subject under discussion?
"Who's the better band?"
Neither.
Duh oh.
Both are defunct and not playing / touring, so the question SHOULD have been "Which was the better band."
But the BEST band out there currently isn't a band at all, it's a DJ ... Gareth Emery .

See? ;)
So, no one else likes RUSH?
"Know your place in life is where you want to be.
Don't let them tell you that you owe it all to me.
Keep on looking forward, no use in looking 'round.
Hold your head above the crowd, they won't bring you down."
Ok, that doesn't rhyme at all... Hmm..
"I stand atop a spiral stair
An oracle confronts me there.
It leads me on, light years away
Through Astral nights, Galactic days.
"I see the works of gifted hands
that grace this strange and wondrous land.
I see the hands of Man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes!
"They left our planets long ago
The elder race still learned and growed.
Their power grows with purpose strong
To claim the home where they belong.
"Home to tear the temples down!
Home to change!"
Better. It's a good story, too.

Nothing really. I was just wundering if you knew the moon had a dark side.

DEATHMATCH!!
Although if it were for cruising in a convertible with the top down at night in the warm summer in LV or PHX then easily Pink Floyd.
I give the nod to Pink Floyd, A Great rock band with a lot of great albums but created the masterpiece album Dark Side of the Moon. DSOTM is not a rock album, its a fantastic musical journey that delves into many genres.
Its really apples and oranges. Who's to say who is better, musical beauty is in the ear of the beholder. I love both bands, I also love the Monkees.
But I wouldn't put them in a great band category. Kind of a one album wonder.

1. Tie
2. The Who, but they have a lot of music that sucks.
3. Traffic by a long shot over Guess Who; tied with Cream. The Guess Who shouldn't even be mentioned next to Traffic or Cream.
4. Hendrix.
Lou Reed or Iggy Pop?
Joan Jett or Chrissy Hynde?
The Mamas and Papas or The 5th Dimension?
Randy Newman or Harry Nilsson?
John Hiatt or Robert Earl Keen?
Dolly Parton or Loretta Lynn?
T Rex or The New York Dolls?
Merle Haggard or Townes Van Zandt?

1. Stones- easy winner.
2. Jethro Tull- doesn't get much better than Locomotive Breath.
3. Traffic- Low Park of High Heel Boys is my all time fav song EVER.
4. Hendrix- close one.
x. Little River Band- good stuff.

Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
Sorry, Zepper-heads.

Well said, sir!
I was actually disappointed that I could not vote twice! lol
Whenever I hear either one, I stop & listen, even when I'm late, which is pretty much all the time! But no song makes me feel the way "Wish You Were Here" does. Not to mention Meddle - "One of these days." And don't forget the theme album, Animals.

Reading that, I "heard" it in Country O.o

Don't like his politics, but this is one of my favorite performances (turn speakers/amp to 11)
Quote: Beethoven9thRegardless of how you voted, isn't it sad how music has gone from Zeppelin and Floyd to Bieber and Gaga?
Bieber is sugar cane candy. Gaga isn't so bad, if you consider the background of the music and times she lives in. Katy Perry would be a far better example of a sugar pop band that surely will be gone tomorrow.
Now, can we compare:
Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam
Oasis vs. Blur
The Stone Roses vs. My Bloody Valentine
Bad Religion vs. Black Flag
Now I'd be interested...

What? No one but me likes Country? =p
1 - Ugh. PJ because I have memories with "Black"
2 - Oasis because British
3 - Emo?
4 - Please ignore the previous 3 because Henry Rollins all by himself consumes everything else you have just posted. He's on my Top 3 People I'd Ever Wanna Meet list.

I loved Camille Paglia's piece a couple years ago where she eviscerated Gaga.

1. Nirvana made me grow up. Pearl Jam I appreciate many years on.
2. Blur are British as well :)
3. God no, MBV is aural haze, The Stone Roses indie-guitar pop at it's finest.
4. :) I'll confess lately I've been enjoying Bad Religion at lot more...
That all said... Pixies vs.... no-one.

Nirvana is simply played too much. It's been burnt out so far I don't think it'll ever come back (for me, of course)
Oasis is British British ;)
I figured not Emo lol. Just messing with you
Honestly, I'd have trouble id'ing a Black Flag song. Henry Rollins is just badass and interesting as hell

Pink Floyd way ahead IMO.

Then I hope you didn't miss him a couple seasons ago on FX's Sons of Anarchy. Great villain.

Interesting comment about music - that some can become burnt out - implying that some cannot become burnt out.
Some music, like art, I guess is a fad for it time period only. Who nowadays would order Seal's Kissed by a Rose, or Coldplay's Clocks, versus the Beatles, but when that came out it was played non-stop for 6 months, then buried. [gag!..]
The difference between a fad and a classic. In games, it's the difference between Deuces Wild versus Craps or Roulette.

RUSH?
But, ok, 80s:
Pat Benatar (Shadows of the Night)
Joan Jett (Roadrunner)
The Bangles (Manic Monday)
The Go Gos (Our Lips Are Sealed)
Meatloaf (don't you love this guy?)
Madonna (Open Your Heart)
And then you ahve the one hit wonders like Men at Work, Foreigner, Scorpions, Cheap Trick, etc.
