Did you previously miss my offer? I'm willing to book action that Trump is NOT the president in February 2021... Since he's a sitting president I presume I'd get odds, but you let me know if you're interested in backing this "lock." =)Quote: MaxPenI'm going to give some investment advice. Guess the Trumpster was right again. I may get tired of all the WINNING.

Edit:As I was typing this, Rex Tillerson just jumped on the air to make a statement, trying to do damage control over Trump's idiotic and uninformed tweet about Qatar. He'll be pursuing a diplomatic solution to the regional crisis.
It now appears that Trumpy, in his speech this afternoon, has undercut Tillerson and doubled down on admonishing Qatar for funding terrorism. All the while aligning himself with Saudi Arabia who is probably the largest source of terrorist funding. BUT more importantly putting our men and women on that military base in Qatar at risk. What a friggin' scumbag.

I thought y'all were saying how likely he is to get impeached and yada yada ya and other stuff. Based on how confident you guys are, you should be more than willing to give plenty of odds to MaxPen. I mean, cmon -- he's (supposedly) going to be the worst president ever, something about Russians, scamming cancer children, and fired the FBI head for investigating into the Russian stuff. Sounds like a lock that he would be impeached (snicker snicker).

I can get +300 on Trump serving a second term. Why would I give you odds.
You guys crack me up. Political betting is about as +ev as it gets. Juicy liberal money falling out of pockets everywhere.
Sure wish I could have found a site that would have let me take the No side on Trump getting impeached. I had a bounty out on it. No one could come thru. I need to start a political betting site. This stuff is like stealing candy from a baby.😜
+ I already have even money on him completing his first term.

Yeah I've not cared about his impeachment. I think impeaching him would be the worse thing. He's really f'ing a ton of stuff up, screwing his voters, and just helping out the top 1-2%. Not only that, it's almost obvious he doesn't even want to be president with tons of quotes from his own mouth (aka he never expected to win either). I want him sitting as president going in to 2021... That will make it just EASY for 'almost' ANYONE to run against him and win. Why impeach him? So pence can get in and decree that if you're not christian you need to have the gay prayed away out of you? He's guilty as all hell of a LOT of things, including the most obvious obstruction of justice by literally asking Comey to "let Flynn go" and to "drop the case" let alone the incredible amount of personal contacts and monetary ties he has to russia. The guy is an idiot, like a real idiot (more/less can't read) but the one thing he did do right was pick quite the AWFUL backup plan in pence.Quote: RSI thought y'all were saying how likely he is to get impeached and yada yada ya and other stuff. "As a political historian who writes mainly about the Republican Party, I’ve often puzzled over why far-right groups during the 1950s and ’60s had such an appetite for obvious falsehoods. Robert Welch Jr., a founder of the John Birch Society, famously maintained that President Dwight Eisenhower, a Republican, was “a dedicated, conscious agent of the Communist conspiracy.” Other extremist groups charged that a committee of University of Chicago eggheads was rewriting the Constitution to deprive Americans of their rights to vote and hold property, and that the United Nations was training barefoot African cannibals in Georgia for an armed takeover of the United States."

Since the advent of the information age, I'd say the propagation of lies, half truths, and simply wrong information is flowing at multiple times the speed of what it used to take. Perhaps corrections are too, but it is information overload.

New York AG looking into Eric Trump Foundation
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/337156-new-york-ag-looking-into-eric-trump-foundation
It was reported earlier this week that President Trump’s charity foundation funneled $100,000 in donations meant for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital into revenue for the Trump Organization by using his son’s charity.
$100,000 in donations made during an annual golf tournament hosted by Eric Trump were funneled through the Eric Trump foundation back into Trump’s golf courses for expenses during the tournaments, despite donors being told that all their money would go to charity, the report said.
Additionally, more than $500,000 over 10 years was then re-donated to other charities, including charities connected to members of the Trump family. At least four of those charities also held charity golf tournaments at Trump golf courses, according to the report.
President Trump reportedly gave the order himself for the Trump Organization to bill the Eric Trump Foundation for the money, which, if true, would violate both New York state and federal law.
Yep, a real piece of work. The most troubling thing to me, though, is that trumpy still has vocal supporters. Most logical explanation is that they are all brain-washed.Quote: 777

Aw, guys, let's not make a gentleman's gesture into a point of contention. I appreciated it very much, still do.
More to the point, there used to be room for more than 1 viewpoint in politics, and that was to everyone's advantage, as it allowed a problem or event to be considered from every angle. IMO, there's still room for that on this forum, but differences of opinion should not include off-topic aspersions cast into other people's faces.
Let's raise the dialogue back up a little. Thanks.

Quote:With newly elected Scott Walker in the governor’s office and a firm grip on the legislature, Wisconsin Republicans in 2011 had a unique opportunity to redraw the state’s electoral maps and fortify their party’s future.
Aides were dispatched to a private law firm to keep their work out of public view. They employed the most precise technology available to dissect new U.S. Census data and convert it into reliably Republican districts even if the party’s fortunes soured. Democrats were kept in the dark, and even GOP incumbents had to sign confidentiality agreements before their revamped districts were revealed to them. Only a handful of people saw the entire map until it was unveiled and quickly approved.
In the following year’s elections, when Republicans got just 48.6 percent of the statewide vote, they still captured a 60-39 seat advantage in the General Assembly.

Sad!
This needs to be talked about more... It's the only reason the republican party is even still a relevant party... the majority doesn't agree with their ideals, yet through "rigging" the system (ironic that trump loves to talk about this) they control a 2-1 seat advantage. When this all gets brought to light and hopefully tackled by the SC that will be the end of the republican party. I'm not a democrat, but still, good riddance... Religion and Nationalism lead to far more wars than good people.Quote: rxwineSince gerrymandering seems to figure in our election results, I thought it useful to post this

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the SCOTUS will outlaw partisan gerrymandering, or at least dictate a process/guideline that will eliminate the current abusive practice in gerrymandering.

Some legal scholars believe this could be the year that changes that. If that happens, they say, an emphatic ruling against partisan gerrymanders would rank with another redistricting decision: Baker v. Carr, the historic 1962 case that led to the principle of one person, one vote.

by greatness you mean the laughing stock of every country then I agree.
That said, despite all of the crap that is going on with his presidency (all of it deserved), I do hope that his administration gets it together and that they do real steps to enact their economic agenda. If he can actually pull off trade deals that returns jobs to the heartland and get through the current chaos while the Democratic party remains in its current turmoil, he has a good chance to do 8 years. But so far, his policies have only helped his rich friends and himself. His budget only hurts his electorate. The rollback of banking regulations that likely won't get through the Senate removes oversight from payday and title-loan companies allowing them to take advantage of the most disadvantaged. His foreign policy blunders don't really impact his base as the economic impacts of those blunders are negligible and leads inevitably to more military spending which attracts his red-meat supporters.
I beg to differ ever so slightly, I would say that it is "delusional at best".Quote: boymimboTo say that Trump is the best president ever is myopic at best and delusional at worst.
