I didn't realize that there was an extra incentive ($2000 prize) to be the chip leader after day 1.

I've been thinking about the flushing aspect. Perhaps the guy(s) thought the chips would dissolve in water. It's the only explanation which makes perfect sense.

Now this is interesting and will leave the casino an out. I predict they will not have to refund any players. And the casino will keep the $250,000 to boot. Gamblers are such chumps.

“Borgata will continue to work with the DGE and the State Police until this matter is concluded and a final order is issued by the DGE concerning the resolution of Event I.”

BABS, what are you thinking ?
Seriously. The casino make over a quarter of a million dollars on this tournament alone. And now they just say tough shit ! We are gonna keep our quarter million dollars. If that cheater busted you out, go sue him. We are only here to collect money. Security and cheaters are your problems, not ours. Now go away before we call security.

The cheater was the first day leader. Do anybody count his chips ? Did they not notice the cheap imitations? And they are numerous
posts on poker forum about the minimum wage dealers they provided. Many times players had to help them declare the winning hand.

Why should a casino be different from other business. You sold a defective product, now make it good. And why not let the tournament continue, instead of cancelling it. Refund anybody who did not cash, let the tourney continue.

NO. Anything so utterly corrupted through and through by the counterfeit chips is best cancelled. With regrets but without doubts.

Sure Borgata should have provided competent dealers and a refresher class for them and should have been more alert to fake chips, as too should have the players, don't forget the players! Some should have spoken up sooner and some of them were probably co-conspirators since the goal was not to win the tournament, the goal was to cash the chips.

" co-conspirators since the goal was not to win the tournament, the goal was to cash the chips. " No way you could pass those counterfeits at the cage. There were
fake tournament chips. You can not cash in tournament chips. I will lay 2 to 1 this moron acted alone. Any takers ? ?

Obviously we need to start closing bridges to make sure the criminal group doesn't escape.

Not necessary. The mastermind behind this will be unmasked as a NJ resident working as a top aide for Governor Christie !

lol

Probably just a coincidence, but in the final 27 (12th in chips with 3.465K) is a player named Thu Le from Raleigh, NC

When you punch in "Thu Le poker" on search engines (was trying to see her past poker stats), it shows a Thu Le, who was busted with her husband for operating an illegal gambling establishment out of their home in Raleigh, NC in 2011.

Over 3 weeks and the 27 finalists have not gotten a penny, no even a refund of the $560 entry fee until this mess is straightened out.

So much for the casino being such a class act !

Thanks for that link Buzz.

Gotta love the last line of that article:

Gee if only they had done the right thing and gained some goodwill. Instead of waiting to be forced to do so !

I found it informative, but think no fair solution could be found. Even your suggestion is flawed. Played A put his chips at risk against counterfeit chips. Player B put his chips at risk against real chips. Now player A is to be penalized ???
