What's worse is the whole basis of Norm's argument was shattered and it was proven that Norm was wrong. Norm was defending a self serving position and running around the internet trying to get KJ banned everywhere. No one else bit except this forum. Yet KJ got stuck by not wanting to apologize for someone who was lying and on the wrong side of the argument. Norm did a great disservice to the forum and he's the one who should be banished.

There was so much discussion about gayness in this thread I had no idea it was a hijack to broach the subject and ask a simple question. Oh well, I see someone started a thread and it already has 3 or so pages. Must have been something people wanted to discuss. Can I get a thanks for bringing up topics that drive discussion and bring value to the forum?

Socialism is great if you want lower living standards and eventual shortages of basic goods.
Sorry, but the USSR was a perfect example of socialism. Socialism is only "better" to lazy people who have never lived under it.

Most people who fled countries to live in US or EU did so because of political reasons. Many Chileans, Argentinians and Brazilians came here to flee CAPITALIST dictatures. Others fled pseudocommunist dictatures.

Now some people flee Cuba for economic reasons. The main reason why Cuba has a lower living standard than USA is because the USA established an embargo, and forced every country in the world to impose the same. The result is predictable and has nothing to do with the political system of Cuba. Imposing an embargo on apartheid South Africa or on Israel has the same effect, though these were/are right-wing political systems. Don’t mix up political and economical.

Oh, nonsense. Cuba lost all kinds of production and wealth. The smart people fled, the others starved. Cuba could have traded for all it needed with the USSR. But the USSR could make little of value. Socialism is evil.
