The Allegheny Institute, in an analysis by research assistant Hannah Bowser and Executive Director Frank Gamrat, sought to quantify those losses. NJ casinos, tracks win $264M in July after virus reopening

Illinois casinos take in $82.6 million in July

Nevada regulators OK taverns use of stand-along slots
Nevada (slots/regulation) - Howard Stutz, CDC Gaming Reports - Nevada gaming regulators have formally allowed tavern and bar operators to utilize stand-alone slot machines, although the governor’s directive that closed bar top areas in the state’s largest counties remains in effect. This Week in Gambling: News from the Las Vegas Strip to Fremont Street

It's another week of gambling news. This time, we have several stories about Vegas casino news to share from the Palms to Texas Station. Plus, a delayed Vegas casino reopening and a story from the new "adults only" casino opening on Fremont Street later this year.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board is to fine a Vegas casino. The Sahara Las Vegas was found to have four breaches of emergency health and safety guidelines issued because of the novel Coronavirus outbreak.

In early June 2020, the Board received a complaint that the Sahara, operated by the Muruelo Group, had been allowing more players on the slot floor than permitted in the state’s policies for reopening after closures that lasted from mid-March.

Following this, the Board witnessed three instances of customers at tables or machines where they were not playing and one meeting that exceeded the limit on meeting sizes.

Also, Vegas casino news from the Tropicana, where a scheduled reopen may be delayed. The CEO of Tropicana’s parent company on Thursday hinted that the Las Vegas resort might not open as planned on September 1st saying that there’s a possibility the opening of the property could be delayed based on market conditions.

AC casino employment down 15% in July

This Week in Gambling: Some Las Vegas casinos may not survive COVID-19 closure

Will the coronavirus closures mean the end to some of Sin City's best known casinos? There is talk that some Las Vegas casinos will not survive and may never reopen again.

Las Vegas casinos and the city itself are known for never sleeping, but several of its properties have had their lights turned off for nearly five months. A total of 11 properties owned by MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment Inc., Red Rock Resorts Inc. and Boyd Gaming Corp. have yet to reopen in Las Vegas, as occupancy rates hover as low as 30 percent on weekdays.

Caesars executives revealed that the future of some properties remains uncertain. The Cromwell, Planet Hollywood Resort and the Rio remain closed. The Linq Hotel, another Caesars Entertainment property, doesn’t yet allow room reservations.

MGM Resorts has yet to reopen Park MGM. Its sister property, the Mirage, is set to reopen Aug. 27. In a July 30 earnings call, CEO Bill Hornbuckle said all of the company’s reopened properties are cash flow positive, with the exception of Mandalay Bay. Hornbuckle did not say why Park MGM is among the last to reopen.

Red Rock has yet to reopen four Southern Nevada properties: Texas Station, Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho and the Strip-adjacent Palms. Chairman and CEO Frank Fertitta III said the company doesn’t know “if or when” it will reopen any of its closed properties.

According to data released Monday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Atlantic City’s casinos reported a 170.4% year-over-year decrease in gross operating profits for April, May, and June, a period when all nine of the city’s gambling parlors were shuttered by order of the governor to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Only Golden Nugget Atlantic City reported a gross operating profit in the second quarter of this year.
The Marina District casino reported just more than $3.1 million in operating profits in the quarter, largely due to the strength of its online gaming presence.

Ohio’s casinos, racinos set August record

Lake Charles casinos set to re-open soon
Louisiana (Lake Charles) - Timothy Boone, Advocate - Hurricane Laura has kept the Lake Charles gambling market shut down since August 25. Golden Nugget Lake Charles and L’Auberge Lake Charles are trying to re-open in “the next few days, a week or so” said Mike Noel, chairman of the gaming board.
