I predicted last play in SF game that cost me a confidence pick. I'm glad they changed the rule about XP on such a play. Looks like I'll be chasing starting next week....

I bought a Miata the first year it came out (1989 or 1990) because it reminded me of an MG. I never heard anyone mention that it was a "gay" car until about three years later when I was at a comedy club in San Francisco. Therefore I am assuming it was a cool car for the first three years. The problem for me and the reason I got rid of it was the rear window was plastic and I kept having to replace it because of the hot Las Vegas sun would discolor it and cause it to crack and break.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

After work I go outside to get in my new car and to start anew adventure. I had never driven a stick shift car before and now I own one and have to get home. Time to learn to drive a stick. Amazingly I only stalled it once on my way home.

I personally don't like Ravens -3 too much, but pickings were slim this week. The Seahawks line at closing was a big change, from +1.5 to -2. Didn't move until this morning though, after I sent my picks.

Here's what I'm proud of:
I had several insights that led me to believe that the Jets were a great pick to win, much less beat the spread. So, I picked the Jets-3 as my confidence pick (as well as a real wager at Jets -3.5 at my friendly neighborhood book.) And the Jets beat the Raiders by 31, for a cover by 34 points!
Here's my opinion: when a game has a 3.5 spread and the actual margin is 4 (or 3), then success and failure at picking on that game is mostly luck. But when a team covers the spread by 20 or more points (and there's been no catastrophic in-game injuries) then there's an excellent chance that the books missed something about the game and the line was bad - for one reason or another.
So, I have started looking at those games this year in which a team covered the spread by 20+ points and I look at which contestants in our contest have picked those teams (and which ones picked the opposite way on those games, LOL.) Its another way of judging who the 'sharp' pickers are.

I think I'm still in the lead by two games or so.
Gordon made a point about how most games come down to a random event (the tripping call in NE/Dal game, the ridiculous decision to go for a FG by Dallas) and acting like I had some real knowledge by picking that game is fooling myself. But picking Ravens as best bet 'might' show some actual insight.
I thought of a contest where you pick 3 games but have to give 10 points more than the line. I would have had Ravens -13 in such a contest. This week I think I'd take Bills -3. Maybe 33% wins such a contest.
