Time and time again I observe the slot players at my local Indian casino, especially on weekends, sit in front of slot machines for hours, WITHOUT their slot card. I wonder what they are thinking. I wonder what is going through their mind. No doubt many of them are regular weekend players, pushing through a significant amount of coin-in each month, and basically losing their proverbial shirts. But I would make an educated guess that close to 50% of these people are playing without a players card in the slot. Don't they know they can get good mailers, with real money? Don't they know the points they earn can be converted to real money? What is wrong with these people?

Of course, then there is the other profile, and this is different, but some people will have the card inserted, and then occasionally take it out. We've all seen that before, people who think taking the card out will change their luck. But that's a different story. Either way, they're all nuts.

I walked by 2 banked a while ago, full of slot players banging away, with their card not properly inserted. Some were backwards, a few were inserted properly but not read (i.e.: jammed in too quickly or too slowly). But one guy took the cake -- his card was in upside down.

I had a co-worker who was convinced the machines read your card, and if you'd been winning 'too much' recently, would adjust the payout. He ran a lot of money through slots.

This, to me, is kind of like Natural Selection for gambling. If you can't figure out how to put a card in a slot, then you don't deserve the points/mailers/etc/etc.

I frequently see people play the slots for $5 at a time. After losing $5 they'll cash out the bottom unplayable pennies, take their card out, insert their card again, then insert another $5 and continue the cycle again. These people believe if you lose the 'next player' is going to win... So they try to take their cards out and put them back in so the machine thinks they're the 'next player.' #Voodoo
