Am I really the only person who says "slotting?" It's just easier to write than writing, "Gambling on slot machines," and I cannot be the only person who says slotting. ;)

Yes.

You could even go with "slot play," as in, "How was your slot play today?"

I say "slotting" all the time... but only because it's a backgammon term. :)

According to my Merriam-Webster app, slotting IS a word. It's just not used as a verb meaning playing slot machines... Yet.

Quote:

Slot - 2

: to put (something) into a space which is made for it
: to fit easily into something

Full Definition
transitive verb
1 : to cut a slot in
2 : to place in or assign to a slotintransitive verb
: to fit easily <her ideas slot neatly into the theory>

Other forms: slot·ted; slot·ting

Examples

He slotted the piece of wood into the groove.
Her ideas slot neatly into the theory.
I can slot you in at 2 p.m.

First use: 1747
