This will be my thread where I post on my VEGAS trips. At least until I get bored and start posting in one of my own forums.
I started posting some experiences here in this thread

Quote: MDawgI set the trip for the casino that is giving us the fifteen hunny shopping money. Done, we arrive in a couple of weeks. However recently received an offer for another gift card from the same casino, an even better offer because this one may be used at any store in the casino including one of the designer stores, and she wants something from there that costs about a grand that I was about to buy for cash the last trip, but they had sold it out and needed to special order it and didn't feel like waiting, so now I may get her that item with a free gift card.
Anyway, I asked the host to put us down for this second gift card offer too but he said that the two shopping sprees represent different promotions and must be utilized on separate trips. Well, we could just do what we did the last time, move from casino to casino eventually returning to the starting point, but I don't expect this next trip to be an indefinite one it's not going to go on for five weeks like last time. Even if I wanted to stay that long she's not into it again, at least not so soon after the last extended trip.
Solution, I think, is to spend one night in the living room or second bedroom of a friend who basically LIVES at this casino in a 3500 square foot apartment, been there all year. As long as he doesn't run out of money before we arrive, which he's actually getting close this guy doesn't win regularly the way I do, he's a good friend gives us the key to his pad and the run of the place I am sure he wouldn't mind. So, rather than having to lug all our luggage down the strip, just move it next door (last trip we ended up on the same floor, could easily swing it again) to his suite after checking out, and the next day Voila! we're back, a new trip, reset the clock and collect the second gift card.
which mentions my next trip, which is coming up fast! leaving in under a couple of weeks from now. This trip should be only about two weeks though, not longer.
As background, I used to play very heavily, my average bet was around $3000. I quit at some point, life intervened and I felt like I was getting too into it, and took about a decade hiatus, returned to play about two years ago. Haven’t had any losing trips since my return, and I stopped over all ahead a decade ago. Yes, life’s been good to me, so far!
These days My Intent is to play more for comps and fun than to try to kill the house, and my average since 2018, was more like around $300. although this last trip, the five week one, I average more like a thousand. The last night of the trip I had lost a number in a row, got mad and slammed all the chips I had in front of me on one hand. My friend tried to stop me, but I kept waving my hand for the dealer to pass me the cards – and I won. As the dealer counted the chips it turned out to be a $16,000. bet, so without intending to get back heavily into it, I now passed my old record of $15K bets, which I used to bet $15K all the time back in the day, and that was the limit (now the limit is $20K). Ironically, that last night I started the day ahead $60K for the entire five week trip, ended $24K ahead (LOSING $36K that last night), so yeah – it is possible to win a $16K bet, not bet anywhere near that again the same night, and still have a losing 12 hour session!
Was it fun meticulously building up $60K ahead over five weeks and then dumping over half of it on the last night? No! but, the feeling of winning that $16K hand, was pretty, prettay, goood.
I don't consider buying $16,000 in stock, or $16,000 for a car, or $16,000 for an engagement ring even remotely the same.
It doesn't mess with your mind that those 4 or 5 next cards can cost you $16,000?
You do bring up one interesting "concern" that proves my point of that no one here really gets it that the house edge matters not in these situations. You've got a 50-50 or a 51-49 (and you're on the 49 end of things), does it really make any difference on whether you're going to risk that $16K? Does that 1% one way or another make the proposition any less risky, after all, it's just one hand. A very big hand. I don't flat bet. I've never met a high roller (or successful gambler, for that matter) who does.
So what if you were on the 51 end of things, but you couldn't flat bet...which I think even if there were a positive EV form of Baccarat true high rollers STILL wouldn't flat bet, they would jump their bets around the way they always do. Would you feel better about risking that $16K now?

Get a life. lol
Still it somewhat reminds me of when we used to ride around in my parents' Rolls as teenagers and once some guy said "Daddy's Rolls" as we pulled through by a night club. My cousin said to him, "Your Daddy got one too?" That shut him up.

Quote: ChumpChangeMy last comps was about 0.1% of my total bet over 4 hours. Say I bet $1200, my comps was $1.20 in points. Waiting for negative comps to come with negative interest rates.
That sounds about right to me. Assuming you were playing BJ at 50 hands per hour your average bet would be about $6. So $1.20 in comps seems very reasonable. Raise your average bet to get better comps.
For me, playing at Bacc. say five hundred (average) a hand, they give you an hour for each shoe. They imposed this "one hour per shoe" rule mostly to prevent the Asian players, who will sit there for ten minutes carefully folding up even two worthless face cards, from getting more play credit than they deserve for the number of hands actually played.
I play shoes rapidly, as quickly as in thirty minutes if I am playing alone, which I prefer it that way actually, so I might burn through five shoes in two and a half but the casino will give me five hours of play credit. I assume that the casino figures eighty or so hands per shoe, at a five hundred average, that's $40,000. per hour which the theoretical on that is about $400. loss x five hours, two grand earned in comps just like that - in just a couple or so of actual hours of play. Comps rack up quickly if you are really playing, but most high rollers during that session will either win a gang or lose it all, rarely if ever coming in right at the theoretical.
This is why one guy could sit at the table for two and half hours, lose ten, but earn only 1500 in comps., while another guy could sit at the table the same amount of time, break even or win, and earn more than 1500 in comps.

Back in the day at the Hard Rock I do recall a couple times when I asked for a dinner comp and the pit boss had to override because their whacked out system showed that I "owed" comps - negative comp balance. They were constantly experimenting with different algorithms to calculate comps at the H.R. Vegas, all thanks to Peter Morton and his desire to squeeze every dime out of the place.
Quote: MDawgYour comps are 15% of your actual loss, or whatever your theoretical is.

The math doesn't add up. The session would have $200,000 bet. The theoretical loss would be 1% of that, or $2,000. You say "...two grand earned in comps...". No, that's the theoretical loss off of which the comps are based. Using a 15% comp on theoretical loss, the comp on that session would be $300.

If I had a 51% chance of winning an even money bet -- and I could make these bets 24-hours per day and keep moving to higher and higher tables, like baccarat -- I would become very rich, very quickly and I would have no problem betting way more than $16k per hand. And it wouldn't matter whether my bets were flat, random, or based on trying to find some pattern where no pattern exists.
Quote: ChumpChangeMy last comps was about 0.1% of my total bet over 4 hours. Say I bet $1200, my comps was $1.20 in points. Waiting for negative comps to come with negative interest rates.
Isn't that pretty much industry standard. A lot of video poker and table games have a house edge of around 0.5-1%. So 0.1% back in comps can get close to 20% of theoretical loss. Then there are always extras on top of that, like point-multipliers, free-play, free-gifts, kiosk games, etc.

MDawg has made a fortune and dodged the house edge by varying his bet size at a -EV game.
Tom suggested that flat betting vs varying bet size doesn’t matter.

Actually, William Ryan I banned more recently, I actually like him but his posts started getting too schizophrenic for me.
I'm sure every one of these guys would say Glad ta meetchya and shake my hand in person, but online, they're all about the snide remarks.

Yes, it's lonely at the top.
Worst case scenario, MDawg is a fraud and a troll and just winding people up, and they're still falling for it hook, line, and sinker.
Either way I'm enjoying the drama... haha.... (and the pictures).
On one of them a few months ago they rented out the owner's box at the stadium and it was local, so we did make it to that one. There weren't many of us, and everyone left a few innings early (was in major over innings) so towards the end we had the box, and all the catered food and drink to ourselves.
These are pretty common events, back in the day I used to get into their Citation Xs all the time to be flown to events, and there were never more than a few of us on the jet plus the host.
Quote: MDawgI banned all these guys, and a few more, months ago, back when they were posting rudely about the Jeopardy final question, where eventually the Wiz himself and Soopoo came in and conceded my point.

AND they also hate it when unsound advantage play is discussed on here.

This reminds me, one of the last times I was on one of those Citation Xs to go to an event I brought my gf with me, a really hot girl big boobs the whole package, and a few months later my host who was on the plane with me ended up stealing her away. On the next trip when I was with her he slipped her his business card and then at some point comp'ed her and her girlfriends a suite when they visited another time without me, and then somehow they started dating.
He was not just a host but a friend, so I didn't make a big fuss over it.
Still, at the time I was like, "Why don't you find your own girl?" but to be fair in those days I had a different girlfriend every other month, and those two, the host and my ex- are still married today about a decade later, so I can't begrudge them their happiness. I would have never married her hot as she was she was too neurotic, but a really nice girl.

I also note you called BRs POSTS schizophrenic, not BR himself. Perilously close to an insult, but technically not one, IMO.
General tone of the whole thread is a thumb in the eye of the rest of the forum, with you basing it all on mathematically unsound play. We are happy to enjoy your wins, chip porn, and positive variance with you. Don't make it an eff you to the rest of us, and we can continue to enjoy it.

Another way to look at it, as a host of mine said to me once, "When you've got 40 thousand dollars in front of you, EVERYONE'S your friend."
Good one!Quote: PokerGrinderDon’t worry, I don’t think you have to worry about making too many friends here.

I totally agree, I’m not sure how this doesn’t get a martingaled suspension of at least 6-12 months. I’ll settle for 3 months because I think he deserves some leniency.
In all seriousness though this should be a suspension for sure.

Enforcement of the rules here is much like traffic violations. Enforcement is inconsistent and sketchy at best.

When you say “his view”, are you referring to the claim that baccarat can be beaten with strategies like hit and run , and varying your bet size ? And by beaten I mean consistent lifetime winning over many sessions.
