1. Where can I find the best cocktail service for pai gow poker/ video poker?
2. Where can I find a full-fledged Baccarat game, and what is the typical min bet?
3. Which players club seems to give the best comps (possibly for hotel rooms for future trips)?
4. How frequently do non-holdem games run at Eldorado? How is the talent?
5. How likely is it I will get shot walking from The Sands to Eldorado at 3am?
6. Generally, where do you like to play, and why?
7. What else should I consider before my trip?
Thanks - I'll try and follow up with a trip report afterwards.
Quote: ActuarialI figured I'd kick off this sub-forum with some questions pertaining to my upcoming trip to Reno. This will be my first time going to Reno; a trip which I suspect may become an annual one. This will be my first ACC Cribbage tournament, hosted by the Sands Regency, which is also where I will be staying. While the Sands certainly has a great room rate for this tournament, I'm planning on doing most of my side-gaming at the nearby Silver Legacy and Eldorado.

Heavily dependent on how busy it is, but for 1 and 6, the PGP at Silver Legacy is pretty good. If the progressive jackpot is high (and you are into chasing such things) you can play for as little as $7 ($5 min bet, and they require that you make at least a $1 bet on Fortune in order to play the $1 Progressive). I typically play at Eldorado and Silver Legacy as they generally have the most going on.
Re 4, an occasional 1-5 Stud game may break out, but that's it, you won't find a mixed game or Omaha (unless things have really changed recently). There's a better chance for non-HE at Peppermill (which is also the nicest poker room in Reno) but it's away from your base location. If you are interested in Peppermill, they are on the Bravo Poker app, so you can see what games are running without having to go down there.
Quote: mcallister32001. I findcustomers service in general to be pretty good in Reno (5). I wouldn't dream of walking to the Sands after dark. The short stretch from Cal Neva to Siena is about my risk tolerance.
And that can be a risk after dark. Maybe shady homeless by the river and in the park. Just not worth it if you are carrying money and look middle class. Be aware.
Even a small to moderate amount of .25 video poker during a 2 day trip gets me free or very discounted room offers at Harrah's for five or six months after my stay. I don't know about the other places.
I know there's some good stuff and eventually Ill get some time to get there. I need some modivation.
Quote: AxelWolfIf anyone has any good information about RENO I would like to talk to you.

If you are in to such things, Labor Day weekend is a good time to go as the Best in the West rib cookoff is going on at the Nugget in Sparks (like 2 mi E of downtown Reno). Of course, it's a bit pricey (usually $7-8 for 3-4 ribs) but you can sample ribs from all over along with all the other unhealthy fair food.
Eldorado has been sending me free rooms for even pretending I'm about to pull money out of my pocket at the tables. Circus Circus has been sending rooms for about 4 hours of full pay progressive 0.25 vp play.Quote: jpmurff3. Starting to plan my annual Reno trip in February - might be as long as 8 days this time.
So I noticed on vpfree2 that Elko has some insanely good VP paytables (100.76% $1 machines). Can anyone confirm that?
Also, how's the heat for counting in Wendover/Elko?
4th annual trip. Going with a buddy this time and looking to explore more casinos apart from downtown/pep/atl. I saw Western Village looks nice and Boomtown has a decent sign up bonus for their players card.
Also looking for restaurant ideas - just anything unique to Reno.

Silver Legacy, probably. Boomtown is very small. Heck, if you want a change in pace, Tahoe!
This information may be out of date but the last I heard about Wendover is they even THINK that you MIGHT be card counting they boot you out and in the time it takes you to cross the street, they have phoned your description to the BJ pit boss at your alternative casino.Quote: ActuarialAlso, how's the heat for counting in Wendover/Elko?

Western Village is owned by the Peppermill. You will have to get a Western Village players card but you can use your points earned at each casino towards both properties. The best steakhouse in Reno is inside the WV. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the WV, kind of a dive casino from the outside but has one of the loosest VP, slots in town and the best steak house. I wouldn't recommend their hotel, there are better options.
The Nuggett just a mile away just remodeled their rooms. They are very nice.
Once you sign up and you'll get offers for free rooms in the mail. Maybe not this time around but for future trips. Free rooms are for weekends too. My friend from Connecticut bets $10 a hand playing at a $5 BJ table and gets offers year round. It's cheaper for him to fly out on Jet Blue out of JFK vs going to Vegas or AC, or even playing at local Indian reservations just an hour away. They're minimums bets are too high on the weekends and just one bad run will cost more than the $200 RT fight to Reno.
I recommend renting a car, but you can even get a rental car under $10!a day bidding on Priceline.

I replied to your other post before I saw this. Thanks for the posts.
Last time we were out there, a dealer recommended Pinocchio's Bar & Grill. Nothing exotic, but it is family-owned and has a bit of charm. Standard pub fare, but IIRC, they had a big menu. The food was pretty tasty.Quote: ActuarialAlso looking for restaurant ideas - just anything unique to Reno.
They are on Virginia Ave, a few miles south of the downtown.
The service is excellent, and the food is generally amazing. Allow 20 minutes for the fried chicken (though it usually gets served faster than that).
There are some slots and video poker, and cash outs are all hand pays! (I kid. But someone does need to pay you. It hasn't been a problem for me, but I can't imagine how they handle it when it gets busy.)
A car jacking of a casino patron's car just resulted in a SIXTEEN year sentence.
re Reno, I walk around downtown at night almost every night. The crime tends to be between people who know each other (domestic violence, drug deals gone bad, etc.). One thing that helps is to carry a flashlight. It needs to be small enough to put in your pocket when you walk into a casino (not that it's banned, just inconvenient) but bright enough so stupid drivers can see you crossing the street in the dark. The center of downtown has lights, but even going to Sands it can get dark between intersections. Also, in the event some street person bothers you, you can shine the light directly in the perp's face. I haven't had to do that, but I'm prepared.
I find Fremont St in downtown Las Vegas more scary than downtown Reno.
