Yes, I live very close to JFK & I am what you might call a very frequent flyer.
BTW, the 2 posts you quote are not related, the former had nothing to do with crime in AC.
Just thought it was an interesting story involving an AC gambler.
Quote: BozThe difference between the strip is the AC boardwalk is simple. No one with any common sense would walk the AC boardwalk anywhere after 5PM alone today December 2nd, while I would have no such concerns 24/7 on the Vegas strip between Wynn and The Trop.
I would say after 9pm (there are plenty of boardwalk people trekking between Revel and Showboat and beyond) especially on weekends.

Will it give gamblers a reason to stay home?
"Online gaming and the alliance may be at cross purposes. The two-year-old alliance is spending $30 million a year to encourage visitors to come and spend money in the city’s casinos, restaurants, and hotels. One can’t “Do AC” – the name of the alliance’s marketing campaign that began last year – by staying home and gambling from an iPhone or laptop...
“Our view is that there will be some cannibalization, primarily in the poker room,” said gaming analyst John Kempf of RBC Capital Markets L.L.C. “But [online gaming] is not a very profitable area for the bricks-and-mortar casino. The cannibalization on the casino floor will be minimal."
"When you can gamble everywhere, it seems, nowhere in particular becomes the best place to gamble."
I hope "The cannibalization on the casino floor will be minimal", but how many times has the AC market been misread by the "experts"?

New Jersey man wins over $200,000 on a progressive table game at Borgata in Atlantic City
William Ruggiero of Manalapan, NJ recently won a life-changing jackpot at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa when he placed a side bet of a single one-dollar chip, on the casino's new Let It Ride progressive table game and received a royal straight flush of hearts.

TRENTON – State Sen. Raymond Lesniak introduced a legislative plan on Thursday that would put Atlantic City at the center of an international gaming industry that is expected to experience rapid growth in the years ahead. The plan would help attract international gaming companies to Atlantic City, producing jobs, state revenue and economic expansion, Lesniak (D-Union) said.
Lesniak’s bill, S-3084, would authorize the Division of Gaming Enforcement to provide licenses to companies that offer Internet gaming to other countries where it is legal, allowing overseas customers, including casinos, to place wagers on casino games via the Internet. The service would be restricted to foreign countries and regulatory agreements would have to be implemented between New Jersey and the foreign jurisdiction

"ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- The bidding for The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in a bankruptcy auction next week will begin at $25 million.
That's $10 million more than the only deal the casino has been able to put together to sell itself when a sale to the PokerStars website fell through earlier this year. But, that deal would have seen PokerStars assume significant liabilities the casino has amassed, something that might not happen in the sale scheduled for Dec. 17
...The Atlantic Club's owners, Los Angeles hedge fund Colony Capital, paid $513 million for it in 2005."

The going rate for a Room in Ballys or Showboat for New Year's Eve 2013...
$250!!
For the past 10 years, the "Main Strip" casinos have been sold out months in advance for NYE.
However, this year it seems the demand has gone down so much, I can get a room for less than $300 after taxes & fees.
I am a Gold card member, who has been to AC about a dozen times this year. Maybe losing $200 total to CET properties.
I have a place in Seaside Heights, so I've never needed to book a room on NYE. But I may consider it this year and will keep an eye on the online rates to see if it drops even further.
But this is still pretty shocking that the rates are not only not Sold Out, but are quite reasonable for arguably the busiest night of the year in AC.
Quote: MoscaI'd bet you could call Revel at noon on Dec 31st and get a free room. I called the day before the Alicia Keyes concert and got one for the night of the show, a Saturday.
When will the AC "Casino Control Commission", aka "Gaming Enforcement" agency, be formally renamed as "NJ FTroop"?

Hehe. And it is an official document. To be fair, that was the only one they got wrong. All the other possessives were correct. But still. Word corrects spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and even iOS can put the apostrophe in or leave it out pretty accurately.

I agree, the failure to guide a $2.5 billion entity into responsible hands, in a market where more than 1/2 of the licence holders are going belly up, pales in comparison to the grammar.
I am a Chris Christie fan, but , how will he ever survive being from NJ?
from Ballys: just got a 14X multiplier for 1/1 & a bunch of slot$ for NYE... I haven't played there in 5 mos.

Trump's "parts" (pre-historic slots) have no value as "parts"
fear not, only the beginning of "ghost casinos" in AC
CET's strategy appears to be mothballing them to reduce competition- vs addressing their own relationship w/ players- good strategy for a hedge fund...disaster for a customer driven entity?

Location, location, location?
In regards to the Trump Plaza which a couple of other posters mentioned. Agreed it's currently the most depressing property in AC...but it's center boardwalk location is worth something. Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) somebody is going to buy that place for pennies on the dollar and run it right. I hope.
Trump Plaza's location, & the lack of interest in it , serve as a "weather vane" pointing to the potential for future investment in AC.
It puzzles me that so many players superimpose the fact that "every casino has a house edge" into "every casino makes a profit", without regard to their debt structure, which in AC, is, all that matters right now.

I'm wondering, given the situation, how anyone could still spend NYE @ Atlantic Club?
I would feel awkward, celebrating, as the staff is forced to work serving me, while they face this situation.
I think the timing of this situation would be better managed by granting the employees a paid severance, closing the place sooner, -vs forcing the staff to be away from their families to collect blood money working in a dead end proposition over the holidays.
At this point, do the few extra bucks that might come in over the next few weeks really make any difference to the players in this deal?

In a city with 12% unemployment and on a downward spiral I bet that every hour counts and NYE is one of the biggest days of the year for tips.

I get that, but I'm talking severance that at least compensates for lost gratuities -vs dehumanizing the staff as trained seals waiting for a fishhead to be thrown into their mouth... & believe me, I have no sympathy for irrational, grandstanding union stunts, which also may have contributed to the plight of these workers- if you read between the lines:
Did this help keep the casino open & preserve their jobs or did it fuel the loss of jobs?

I really liked them when they were the AC Hilton. I stayed with them several times, in part because they had the classic feel of gaming back 30-50 years ago, with lots of very senior people and courtesies from the pits. Their comps were also very generous compared to my play, I felt. I never paid for anything there, got invited to special parties, concerts, and the like, and I was never more than a dolphin at best. I liked the walk to the south, their place being immediately adjacent to (really opening out onto) the boardwalk, less people to thread through out there. I had a great host, too, probably liked her personally better than any other host I've had, though I have a good one now.
RIP AC Club. Thanks for the fun.
Last summer we went 3 times with our 2 year old. There is no way that we can afford to stay right on the beach now. I am sad for the employees and I am sad for us. :-(
Quote: GWAEThis news really makes me sad. Over the last 2 summers I have been able to get corner rooms comped on the weekends. I have stayed 4 summer weekends for free.

i am sure one of the other struggling boardwalk properties would be happy to comp you summer weekend rooms for some modest play. some of these casinos i have just walked through and they send me weekly mailers begging me to come stay with them -- and i am the opposite of a high roller, and i only play low-house-edge games.
have you looked into places like resorts? showboat? trump taj? heck, even revel. if you go to revel and play green chips you can have the run of the place now. how times have changed.
They used to have a $1 3 coin aces and faces,to the right, around the corner at the top of the escalator coming from the boardwalk. This is much better than 8/5 job.Not sure if it`s still there.Quote: ahiromuSigh, Trump Plaza it is then. All of their VP is so shitty and I feel so guilty playing 8/5... even if it's for quarters and like $20 a day.

Probably long gone. Vp free says the only 99% games left are at the $2 level. They made a comment back in 2012 that quarter ddb was 9/5. If so, that's better than 8/5 job.
