Introduction
On Saturday, May 29th, 2021 the Chicago Cubs’ reliable second baseman / utility infielder, David Bote, slide in hard head – first to second base in an attempt to break up a double play, and he suffered a dislocated left shoulder on the aggressive base running play against the Cincinnati Reds. The Chicago Cubs did end up winning this game against the Cincinnati Reds with a final score of 10 to 2. The following day on Sunday, May 30th, 2021 the Chicago Cubs have announced that they are placing Bote on the 10 – day injured list resulting from his left shoulder dislocation.

This latest injury to a Chicago Cubs’ infielder caused the ball club to make some corresponding moves to accommodate their player roster. The Chicago Cubs called up their infielder Sergio Alcantara from their Triple – A Iowa affiliate while designating their right – handed pitcher Tyson Miller for assignment.
Bote was hitting .194 with 5 home runs and 23 RBIs over the course of 50 games this during the 2021 MLB season. Last year with the Detroit Tigers Alcantara batted .143 with 1 home run and 1 RBI in his 10 games with the Tigers during their highly unsuccessful 2020 MLB campaign.
The Chicago Cubs have been bitten hard by the injury bug over the month of May, especially when it comes to their position players of both the infield and outfield. The Chicago Cubs’ infielders like Matt Duffy and Nico Hoerner as well as outfielders such as Jake Marisnick and Jason Heyward have been placed on the 10 – day injured list since Monday, May 10th, 2021. The Chicago Cubs’ veteran gold – glove first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, has been sidelined by back tightness, and he is currently listed as day – to day on the Chicago Cubs injured list.
