Sonny, the local mob guy to an 8 year old boy who admires him
the boy says, " "Bill Mazeroski, I hate him. He made Mickey Mantle cry. The papers said 'The Mick' cried "
Sonny replies:
" Mickey Mantle? That's what you're upset about? Mantle makes $100,000 a year. How much does your father make? If your dad ever can't pay the rent and needs money, go ask Mickey Mantle. See what happens. 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪. 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙢."

"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.
If you want a picture of the future imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.
Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.
Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.
We know that no one ever siezes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.
Power is tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in shapes of your own choosing.
Orthodoxy means not thinking - not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.
If you want to keep a secret you must also hide it from yourself"

lyrics from "If you're going to the city" by Mose Allison________________really good advice
"if you're going to the city you better have some cash
cause the people in the city don't mess around with trash
when you get up to the city you better lock your door
you know they'll take what you got boy - and then they'll ask for more
and if you stay up in the city child there's just 2 things I hope
that you don't take money from a woman - and you don't start messin round with dope"

Jimmy Piersall - a pretty good MLB player who was bipolar
a book and movie was made about his life called "Fear Strikes Out"
I saw him lie down in the middle of center field while the game was being played (Washington Senators)
I couldn't believe the Manager, Mickey Vernon didn't take him out or bench him. but Vernon did nothing

Around the same time as Piersall, there was another player named Reno Bertiola(sp). Reno had anxiety and needed to take prescription drugs in order to play. He was a bonus baby and sat on the bench ,as required, for several years. When he finally was given a shot to play, he casually told a reporter how his game benefited from the new pills he was taking. He got off to a great start one year and the drugs became a story. Reno roomed with Al Kaline and was actually thought to be a better prospect, but the pill story followed him and when he didn't become a star, his baggage became more trouble than it was worth. JP,on the other hand, was a star and worth the hassle.

selected moments
Once upon a time ...
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hanging out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging your next meal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
Ahh you've gone to the finest schools, alright Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
Nobody's ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you're gonna have to get used to it
Ah you never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You say you never compromise
With the mystery tramp... Ain't it hard when you discovered that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal
... all the pretty people
They're all drinking, thinking that they've got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you better take your diamond ring, you better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him he calls you, you can't refuse
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose
Meh, just paid some attention to the lyrics the other day
Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People call say 'beware doll, you're bound to fall'
You thought they were all kidding you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hanging out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging your next meal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone
Ahh you've gone to the finest schools, alright Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
Nobody's ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you're gonna have to get used to it
You say you never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
A complete unknown, like a rolling stone
Ah you never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on a chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discovered that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone
Ahh princess on a steeple and all the pretty people
They're all drinking, thinking that they've got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you better take your diamond ring, you better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him he calls you, you can't refuse
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you've got no secrets to conceal
How does it feel, ah how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone

a few verses from the poem entitled IF by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

although never griping about your loss - a thought that rocks

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer
"Sir" said I or "Madam" truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That scarce was sure I heard you" - here I opened wide the door; -
Darkness there and nothing more.

Quote:They gave me 10 minutes worth of bullet points about how big the Super Bowl is, it's the No. 1 show on Jupiter and Mars, it's No. 1 with women, it's No. 1 with people who don't brush their teeth. There's $1 billion transacted — I remember them saying that. I have one question: What do you get paid to be part of the biggest show in the history of the universe? What does the artist get?'
Artists doing the show get Union minimum wage. Why? Because they can. Artist benefit quite a bit from the promotion if it is perceived well. They do cover the production costs though.

certainly not as it is sometimes posed, "since the beginning of the universe" ... from the perspective of such calculations, the universe is too young*, assuming the monkeys type no faster than humans
If one person rolled a pair dice every second since the universe began, it would roughly be enough time to have rolled 18 YOs maybe a time or two
