The best model I ever saw was Habitat for Humanity. You have to put in I forget how many hours building someone else's house, then the same building your own. The number was not trivial. The idea was that you learn about how a house is built so you know how to keep it up, and you have sweat equity. History shows when you give people homes they tend to destroy them. A few are good souls who will keep them up, most not so much.

NONE of them said that. The question was "access to health care". The word "free" was not in there.
"Affordable" does not mean free, either. There are many proposals out there. Deductibles. Co-pays. In-country vs. Out-of-country rates, like in-state tuition for colleges is now. Lots of ways to structure it short of illegals left in the shadows to suffer because they can't walk into a doctor's without threat of deportation.
Making a health care system AVAILABLE is different from free to all. And I think it's evil to keep up the distortions and lies about what's being discussed by various people, building up resentment about vague "others" stealing "your" public health tax dollars to help their "undeserving" families' needs.
When I was last in England, I had a minor issue, went to a clinic, paid a fee, got seen. It wasn't free. But it was available, and it was affordable. I'm not saying their NHS is what we should adopt. Just an example showing it can be done.
