See, I don't get that amusement at all. It's destructive and divisive. It goes both ways, it makes people dig in, and it keeps us from going forward together as a country.
I don't get the name calling, the bashing, the war of attrition towards people stepping up with ideas, energy, and passion for our democracy.
I think Kamala Harris was wrong to call out Biden like she did. It was an obvious set-up for her to play the race card and make it personal, when Biden is one of the leaders of civil rights legislation and equality for the last 50 years. What made it really obvious was, as soon as she went into her personal bussing story, they had a picture of her at that age all ready to post on her Instagram. Takes what played as a genuine moment and turns it into a nasty trap.
That world has changed, yes. Largely through the efforts of Biden and people like him. But he worked within the system as it was, and people who were barely children when he was making real change during those days are wrong to take the world as they know it now to be a given.
People forget that people died to make them equal. Just like people died to bring about the 40 hour work week, sick leave, many other things that are now rights (and rightfully so). Short of dying, many people lost their jobs, their positions, got beaten in riots or demonstrations, burned out of their homes, lots of other adverse actions.
Respect. All who step forward into the arena deserve some, just for trying.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

When I was bussed back in the day, technically as far as I know, the school in my neighborhood did not have a no blacks policy. Blacks simply did not live in the local district, and the bussing shipped kids across town to different schools in order facilitate integration..
Now this was likely due to housing discrimination.

It seemed like blacks could go to any one of the local high schools while white kids had to go to a specific school unless they could come up with a good enough excuse. As the local schools didn't offer Italian, many kids requested they be permitted to transfer to a school that did.
Fear of their kids being bussed into bad neighborhoods lead to white flight, with white families fleeing to the suburbs. Inevitably, black families moved into these neighborhoods and the previously almost all white schools became primarily minority. The strange thing was the supposed excuse for opposing school integration was to protect property value but the mass flight destroyed value instead.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

And this is exactly why bussing was an awful policy. Still is. Instead of going to their neighborhood school, kids were bussed across town because someone wanted White kids hanging around. Somehow, majority Black schools almost always had more "problems" than the White schools. These were self-made problems, not substandard schools. Usually they were part of the same district.
While bussing alone is not the reason for the decay of many of these neighborhoods, it surely did not help. People do not want their kids sent across town just for some kind of social balance. Once we had a real bad snow storm and kids were stuck in the schools until 8 or 9 PM. Years before they would have either been released to walk home or their parents would have walked to the school to get them. But it was now across the city and not possible. Yeah, Kamala, great program---NOT!

Her comments about Brown being alive and kicking are out of context of course. They left out the last sentence of the quote which referred to his corruption scandal. Ie it was more her saying after Brown got caught in his own corruption that he would be alive and kicking still 40 years later.
The fact they dated and there was an age gap is pretty meaningless. Harris has proven with a long track record she is more than capable. If she did have to do anything to jumpstart her career thats more an indictment of the male dominated world at the time than any slight of her ability.
Something tells me the attacks on Kamala by the right are actually going to strengthen her positioning for presidency. The Righties are gonna end up actually being the cause ahe gets elected.

She's not been my primary pick from the start, but if she wins the nomination that won't be enough to disqualify her if she is up against Trump who has a host of disqualifying moral issues among other things. And I can't imagine in that situation and comparison why anyone would do otherwise.

When there is a match indicating that an alien illegally in the country is attempting to buy a firearm, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be notified so that the attempted purchaser could be apprehended and prosecuted and/or removed.
Ironically, as Steube notes, the amendment was based on language introduced by two House Democrats, Reps. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) and Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), who is now chairman of the House Judiciary Committee — yet both of them voted against Steube's amendment.
In fact, the amendment failed when the majority Democrats voted against it, even though the premise of these bills is easy enough to comprehend, and certainly logical. It's already against the law for illegal aliens to purchase or possess firearms (see 18 U.S.C. This seems like exactly the kind of amendment that both sides of the gun control debate could get behind, right? Well, maybe not. It appears that Democrats, who generally know no boundaries where gun control proposals are concerned, suddenly become cautious about the idea of a government background check that proves itself effective where aliens, even illegal aliens, are concerned. "AWB". You know how certain terms give you immediate reason to disqualify whatever comes after it? Terms like "Those people" or "you choose to..." or things of that nature? Background checks hardly phase me anymore, if only because there's bigger fish to fry. My resistance on those is more one of efficiency and budget - it's a waste of money with no real benefit. And having made >0 straw purchases after stiff legislation "prevented" it, and having 5-0 ignore or bumble the info these policies provide, and the simple fact that people change and a good guy can snap, my opposition is more distaste for idiocy than raging for my rights.

Let's be honest. China has been taking advantage of the US for a quarter century. The NORKs have been a problem for a quarter century. Both maybe longer but I didnt pay attention before Clinton. There is guilt on both sides. Somebody needs to seriously deal with it instead of kicking the can down the road.

Both flared up in the early 1990s. China by getting into the WTO, which ended their annual Most Favored Nation review and our leverage. N Korea started flaring when the grandfather Kim died. He was a nut but having founded the country kind of knew he could not push things too far. S Korea was nowhere near the economy it was then that it is now. Can kicking since then.
