Just ignore diabetes. It's fake news.Quote: billryanFor some reason, the diabetic program offers mostly frozen food. I agree eating it every day is a bit much, but I find a day on, a day off works well for me. It's helped me in my slow journey towards 300. $150 a month is much more manageable than $300 for the everyday program. Today is an off day. Bought a large Pizza Hut pie, with meatballs and green peppers on sale for $5.99. Had four slices for lunch and will have four more for dinner. Both with huge amounts of ice water. Total cost for lunch and dinner- $6. Tomorrow is a NS day. Chocolate Muffin for Breakfast, a few grapes and slices of swiss cheese for snack, ravioli for lunch, turkey and stuffing for dinner. That leaves me two snacks. Might use one for a glass of milk, and the other will be a mystery reach into the snack box to see what I pull out.
Quote: mcallister3200I just can’t do keto I tried, I just can’t accept not being able to eat fruit for more than a couple days.
I haven't had fruit in 40 years and the only vegetables I eat are the bad ones (corn and potatos).
a hearty hi-yo silver! to the first person who can correctly identify what this is without looking it up
*OK I confess I've never tried this before and thought it would blow minds. However, my new thing is to try different things out there now that can be eaten raw. Will let you know soon if it tastes good.
On-Edit: Oooops. Didn't see the response.

it's in the trash now. Bad choice for eating raw. Indication was to use it in a smoothie or whatever, thought it might be ok raw. Like trying to eat snot, plus hard to peel, and too expensive
Yes, better as a tablet or as a juice despite the Texas and Florida AG's suing the importer of the juice product.Quote: odiousgambit, plus hard to peel, and too expensive
I had my MoW surprise this morning. It was delicious but I'm not quite sure just what it was that I ate.

Should be.
Clear Evidence of Carcinogenic Activity
"Unprocessed aloe latex contains chemicals that appear to have the potential to cause cancer, and processed aloe latex might have cancer-causing compounds. Taking 1 gram a day of aloe latex for several days can cause kidney damage and might be fatal." Mayo Clinic
All plants must defend against insects so the outer-most portion of any leaf or fruit is usually going to be disrupting to some biological process.

the aloe vera lotions that they make to help with sunburns and skin irritations are IMO tremendous - the best OTC health product I have ever gotten
they have a nice odor and they feel really great going on - shocking to me to find a product that good - products like that usually range from mediocre to - hey - I just threw some money in the trash
I grow aloe vera outside for my wife, I never thought of eating it, I can't imagine it tastes good. Then again, I dislike all weed type lettuces. I will only eat iceberg lettuce from the lettuce family.Quote: lilredroosterthe aloe vera lotions that they make to help with sunburns and skin irritations are IMO tremendous - the best OTC health product I have ever gotten

p.s.I never put any type of lotion other than sunblock on my body or hands.
I assumed it was a cactus. Either way, it probably tastes like a weed. I might give it a tast later today, I would guss it tastes bitter.Quote: GWAEI had no idea alone vera was a plant/weed
I highly doubt it tastes any good.
I have lots of Mint it's chocolate mint. That's some good stuff.
don't think so, but a cholla is definitey a cactus with lots of barbed spiny needles but when boiled is highly nutritious.Quote: AxelWolfI assumed it was a cactus.
It is and always will be a cactus to me. I have it next to some succulents and a cactus and they all seem to get along just fine.Quote: FleaStiffdon't think so, but a cholla is definitey a cactus with lots of barbed spiny needles but when boiled is highly nutritious.
I had a few plants outside the fence and the gardener friggin weed waked them down. I should have had his ass deported, but I was feeling generous, so instead, I had some left over beer from the WOV event. I gave him some and said, "NO CUT MY PLANTS OUTSIDE GATE PLEASE!!"

You eat this? It looks like aloe Vera to me. Can't imagine eating it, though it's very useful to rub the juice on burns.

Make them munchkins cook for you and earn their keep.
They'll also develop a very valuable skill and start to learn about healthy eating. Then later, take pride in prolonging their father's life.
Or be bitter about having to wait for the life insurance loot.

jokes on them, I don't have life insurance.

As to what I ate today: My Saturday MoW, my Sunday MoW, including the banana, macadamia cookie, chocolate chip cookie, potato salad and coffee, coffee, coffee!
Their Cobb salad is pretty good. Another fast and easy option.
Of course it comes with ranch, which is gross. But you can sub in some balsemic.
Also had a mushroom burger with no bun.
Whole Foods hot food bar is good but Wegmans crushes Whole Foods by a large margin - it's awesome
sorry west coast dudes - Wegmans is only on the east coast
Quote: RigondeauxOf course it comes with ranch, which is gross.
Preach!
Hard to beat a solid salad.
MoW arrived. Spaghetti with meat sauce, zucchini chocolate chip cookies, cranberry juice. Delivery volunteer had probably not even walked the sixteen feet to the building's front door before I had finished it despite having. Just consumed enough peanut butter to choke a horse.

Shall I send some?
You might have to refry it yourself.
Last night was pistachios for dinner. I ate way too many as they had no taste so I kept eating them waiting for some satisfaction.
A Costco "protein bar" (one of the few I could find that is reasonably low in net cards - they come in cookie dough and chocolate brownie flavors)
A mug (Cirque du Soleil "Love") of coffee
A cup of yogurt (Dannon "Light & Fit" lemon meringue)
A can of Vanilla Coke Zero
A bowl of meatballs in tomato sauce with provolone
A couple of cookies
Fructose, sucralose, acesulfame...you would be better off to have real yogurt instead.Quote: ThatDonGuy

Quote: DRichI recently had a medical procedure with anesthesia and it has caused me to lose much of my sense of taste. It is so strange to eat things that you know you like but it is not satisfying at all when you can't taste it.

You might try eating (healthy) things that have a taste that you don't like. Beets, liver, whatever.
Quote: beachbumbabsI can't figure out all the beet-bashing in here. Beets are awesome tasty. I like them best canned, heated, then salted and buttered. Yum! They're very carb-rich, though, so I don't get to eat them very often.
I like beats but they really do taste like dirt.
That's why you should never let a WOV member administer anesthesia.Quote: DRichI recently had a medical procedure with anesthesia and it has caused me to lose much of my sense of taste.

Quite good. Fairly priced. $14 for my meal. It was a piece of fish like this one with grilled veggies and another side.
I had coleslaw. Realized abould 85% through that it probably had sugar in it. Oh well.
Wish there was a place like this by my house.
They do serve fried fish, so d rich can eat there
I like beets but some say they are a gout trigger, so that puts them a bit lower on my preference list. Back in the days when USA workers were joining Food Coops for economic reasons there were often limits on various items but all coop managers soon learned to put up a sign that read "no limit on beets".Quote: beachbumbabsI can't figure out all the beet-bashing in here. I tried to the ol’ bamboozle “steak n stuff” burrito trick and got half off on my meal, recently. :)
