To be the best at anything takes talent, dedication to practice and world-class coaching. To reach the pinnacle without a great coach is almost impossible.
Quote: rxwineWas just getting some gas at a convenience store. I walked to the back to look at something, and when I came back up front two people who had just been at the register were just out the door and the cashier was leaning through the hole in the plastic shield giving himself an "excellent" rating on the screen rating mechanism.
And in the comments, he typed, "The cashier gave excellent service, and he even saved me the work of filling out this survey."
About an hour later, it was back inside. For the life of me, I can't figure out how it could possibly get in. Houdini could have taken lessons.

Do you find the raccoons annoying or do you enjoy having them around?Quote: redietzYou must have very mild-mannered possums in your neck of the woods. The possums here look me right in the eye and hiss at me. They come up on the back patio and have some discussions with the cats, who are inside. We have a family of raccoons either living under the house or very close. They are exceedingly well fed, it looks.
When I would go to visit my father in Washington, every morning the raccoons would come into the back foyer(is that even a thing? I don't know what you would call it) and my dad would proceed to feed them dog food he bought big extra bags just to feed them, I thought it was pretty cool. He even had a young wild skunk that would follow him around as he was out doing work on the property or when he would go to get the mail. It didn't seem to be scared of the tractor or riding lawn mower either.
I hear skunks actually make interesting fun loving pets if you decent them.,
This thing is really cute and acts very similar to a ferret, I want one I think their claws would be pretty hard on your furniture and whatnot since they seem to love digging at stuff.
One of them got in a big red plastic garbage can and couldn't get out once he was in there. He was the fattest raccoon I'd ever seen. I thought he could get out, but I was wrong. The next morning, he's still in the garbage, so I have to tip the thing over. Well, he's so fat, he can only run about 30 feet before taking a break. He stands there and eyeballs me, and I feel pretty stupid because he's so big I'm halfway scared. He gets his wind and rambles away.
They're entertaining, but it's ridiculous. When I turn the outside light on to take bags to the garbage, they run towards the house instead of away from it. They think it's chow time.
I thought I was done with them for good, now that I'd caught the second one, but no.
Quote: AxelWolfDo you find the raccoons annoying or do you enjoy having them around?
We have raccoons in the neighborhood and I despise them. 10x more destructive than the possums; they're real pests.
I store almost nothing on it - all my storage goes to various cloud services
I download almost nothing
I never keep a lot of tabs open
I clear the history and cookies several times each day - necessary to beat various newspapers paywall
I never visit shady sites that I think might be trying to harm my computer
it's not so much not wanting to spend money on a new computer
it's just that I hate the process of having to choose one
so far, it's lasted 6.5 years which is not very long, but longer than average I think
would like to hear from others about how long their computers last and whether or not they baby the computer as I do
or other things to do to make the computer last longer

I know nothing about computers, but a friend who was VP at Boeing actually chose the laptops for me. He usually buys just the best high end stuff, but he helped me out and chose them in my price ranges. I trust his judgement, so thumbs up on the Lenovo.
As far as babying the computers -- I try to keep the newest one somewhat clean and fresh, but I'm not real internet-tidy.

I store almost nothing on the cloud(I kind of forget about that option)
I download bunch of stuff I don't need.
Right now I have 35 tabs open and it's a very slow day just after a restart.
I almost never clean my cookie or browsing history.
I use sites like movies123 and watch series.

I buy 1000’s of Lenovo laptops for work and they are very solid machines. We hardly have any issues with them, even the ones that are abused on construction sites.
Typically we replace them every 3-5 years but hardly ever because they are broken.
The biggest thing you can do to improve the speed and lifetime of your laptop is to buy one with an SSD.
The other key to buying a laptop from any brand is to buy the business series and not the consumer series. Consumer laptops are by far less quality across the board.
For Lenovo the business laptops are Thinkpad T and Thinkpad P series
For dell its the Vostro or Precision
For HP it’s Elitebook or Zbook
(Now I will learn this was new 10 years ago. : )
One man owned all the burger kings in my town. They went bankrupt. An ex burger king manager told me everyone up to the supervisor was stealing. Another manger sued burger king for non payment of her last paycheck. Another burger king supervisor applied to work for us has class A theft. The first manager said everyone knew what was happening behind the owners
back.
The break even point is if every worker stole $15 a day. If the owner is making 100k per year per location.
The second manager sued him for her last paycheck and won. She said that she vowed never to work for another restaurant and is working in a hospital cant remember What position. I visited her home bc her husband used to work for us. I felt her judgmental to restaurants. So if you witness over $150 in theft per shift and the restaurant goes bankrupt. And You expect the owner to take a 60k loan to pay off 200 workers that were stealing from you.
I found a shrimp stuffed in the freezer drain pipe. I used co2 to blow it out. The freezer fan covers prevent food from entering drip pan. I cant remember which co worked on it. motors were periodically being replaced due to ice build up until i found the shrimp and adjusted defrost timer and moved thermostat location. It was one of the brick and mortar co. Before i got certified the ac and plumbing repairs bills were ~350k For 6 ocations.
next to aggressive drivers they are IMO the most dangerous drivers on the road
they will sometimes stop in the middle of a 45 m.p.h. road where there is no parking
they will sometimes realize they're going the wrong way and decide to make a left turn from the far right lane
they sometimes go 40 m.p.h. on a 65 m.p.h. interstate
at least with aggressive drivers you know what they're going to do - weave, drive too fast, and cut you off
but you can't know what confused drivers are going to do - I try to get as far away from them as I possibly can
a lot of these confused drivers are elderly and the State has a tough decision as to whether or not to take away their licenses
if they live in rural areas or outlying suburbs the public transportation is very poor - without a drivers license they're really S.O.L.
States are not willing or able to improve public transportation in outlying areas - it's too costly
it's a very difficult situation to deal with - no easy answers

Whenever I see some big truck driving like an idiot I'll bet whoever I'm in the car with at the time that's a chick driving.
a big rig was to the right of me, a 75 footer, about 10 yards ahead of me - he started to come into my lane - I think he didn't see me, I was in his blind sport
I honked, and swerved halfway into the lane to my left almost hitting another car but he moved in time - and the big rig straightened out missing me
I was very close to meeting my maker if you believe in that stuff

Secret truckers rule [ log trucks], let the signal blink 3 times, then turn the wheel. People either get out of the way or they don't, but they will not let you over.
In my experience, I find the worst drivers are home in Utah, next is Alaska. Up north they don't require driver's ed. to get a license at 18, and it shows. They pass in the ice and snow and have no plan about when they can return to their lane.
I find Cal. drivers rude, but usually good. I'd rather be cut off by rude, than stupid.

There are people (some on here) that want those kind of laws in America....
But, without getting political, be careful writing online about places while actually there, you would be surprised what can happen some places that is unthinkable to Americans.
Wait until you are saftley home (if you have no plans of going back) to post reviews like that.
Like many things in the online world online reviews are a double edged sword; theoretically great and a useful consumer tool but in recent history it’s for many people turned into simply a social media lynch mob tool for people to attack and hope to ‘cancel’ businesses and business owners they’ve never been to or met for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality or service of the business.
A friend on Long Island had to close his business after one person took to social media and made ugly claims about the staff. Suddenly people from all over the country were writing terrible reviews of the place and someone started putting flyers in the parking lot. The business started suffering and he took to social media and had what could be called a meltdown. I couldn't believe as I watched a person I thought was a gentleman descend into a cesspool of homophobic rage. The store next to him got involved and started making posters of his remarks and putting them in the front window. Then the landlord and the local school PTA joined in. What he did couldn't be defended, but it all started with a customer who felt slighted and wrote about it.
Quote: billryanI have no problem with a company banning a person for leaving a bad review, especially if it is badly exaggerated or fabricated.

There is a a big difference between banning somebody (and even suing them) for false bad reviews (assuming this review was even false), and the national police arresting them and not letting them leave the country......

When i was in Lugano Switzerland study abroad. We were formally told by the school to be careful how you talk to police. An american student talked back to a cop. He was in prison for 6 weeks and fined thousands of dollars. We were told by the school to carry our passports and 20 francs at all times. There was nothing anyone could do for the student.
We had 3 employees complaining for half a year that the local spanish radio station was defaming that “what are they hiding in there.” defamation. Unless you press charges. It wasnt something i pursued but could have won. I never understood why we get so much graffiti wall high and a death threat when i returned to my hometown. Never had conflict of interest with gang or cops. I saw a Young employee working at the ac shop. The grown up employees were bullying the young employee over a disposable pen.
When i was 14 Working legally as the owner son. a Restaurant lady would yell at me every 5 min for 2 years. An ex army employee said. She could be a drill instructor And i could pass boot camp.
is it true? I dunno - maybe - but amusing anyway
"Covid 19 Boon to Dice Controllers
was at casino yesterday where suits were dosing dices with hand sanitizer (Purcell) before each new shooter.
The dices stuck together better than the super glue. The first 5 tosses were all hardways (used hardway set) the dice never separated upon landing. The next 10 they remained together in air. The 16th toss he hit a 7 but collected big bucks. The closed table after the guy was done tossing."

Put your blender under a sound dampener?
Blender inside a cabinet?
