Much of "Today's country" is rap for folks who are scared of black people. And even then, this song doesn't cut it lol.

There's literally nothing country about this. Not the tempo, not the structure, nothing. One chord on a banjo and the word "horse" does not a country song make.

It sounds country to me
It made it all the way to number 18 on the Hot Country 100
How did it make it so high without an official release
Because Country music radio stations were playing the youtube version on their radio station and playing it a lot
It made up to 18 not on sales but on how much country music radio stations were playing the song
What is country because what I hear out of Nashville is closer to rock then traditional country

When I think of country. I think of Junior Brown and his honkytonk songs. Too me that's real country.
Yet many don't consider Junior Brown country simply because he can absolutely shred on his specially built guilt steel double necked guitar. I've seen him shred live on that double necked guitar. Incredibly talented on electric guitar.
I consider Junior Brown one of the best electric guitar players on the planet and he does traditional country.

Absolutely. That song doesn't have the mandatory truck references nor is the drummer on oxy. Reminded me a bit of the Allman Joys.

Wait, what? I can be there in 19hrs; please have ready for me whatever you're smoking to equate these two things lol.

I've tried 5 times, I just can't get it. "Old Town Road" sounds like a Key and Peele sketch gone wrong.

Dan Tyminski

I got to see Dan live with Allison Krause
He told a real funny story
He told his wife a movie studio called. They wanted him to sing "Man of Constant Sorrow" for a movie
He would not appear in the movie. George Clooney would be lip synching
He asked his wife if he should accept the job
Dan's wife "Do it Dan. This is my ultimate fantasy, your voice and George Clooney's body"

He's an amazing performer. Catches you by surprise.

He's also the voice behind Avicii's hit "Hey Brother", not to mention, as you said, tons of work with Krause and Union Station. Other than his penchant to get a bit gospel-y, he's one of my faves. His control of voice is quite remarkable.

That's why it's supreme. Country is life. It expresses the base of humanity without the pomp and pageantry of celebrity. It's the song of the Everyman. It's recognizing we're simple yet capable of the amazing, that we're strong yet vulnerable, and that it exists in us all, not just in some abstract idea of the elite or blessed.

I can get being irritated by twangy banjos or a whiney Dobro, but if you can't find a country song that touches your soul, I worry for your emotional health.

Ironic country/bluegrass came up as a topic, just today by chance I finally found some versions of "jenny lynn"

in Bill Monroe's "uncle pen" there is the phrase "the greatest of all was Jenny Lynn, to me that's where the fiddling begins" yet I had never heard this fiddle tune till I you-tube searched it today. Here is one.

Monroe's song is a true story about his Uncle Pen, who was locally famous on the fiddle and taught Monroe to play. IMO "Jenny Lynn" is probably a corruption of "Jenny Lind", who was known as the Swedish Nightingale, a singer quite famous in the 19th century. I've talked about this with other bluegrass fans who agree it is odd no one plays the tunes mentioned, but I think I understand now - it's very much fiddle music , not so much "bluegrass"

Two other tunes are mentioned in the song, "he played an old tune they called the "Soldier's Joy",
And he played the one they called the "Boston Boy" '. I don't think I've heard them either and will have to search that too when I have time

the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: “Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell!”   She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

Austin does great things in many related fields. A wonderful place for live music. Blues to bluegrass, Jazz to folk to country rock. Enjoy!

They shouldn't be giving those people any attention. The Harvard team and the news organizations should just ignore idiots like that.

Just imagine if it was the '90's, and you turned the NBC Nightly News and you saw Tom Brokaw talking about how a handful of morons on a BBS were talking smack about Princess Diana or something. You would be like, "Why the eff is this even newsworthy?"

Now that's every other news headline: "Twitter erupts over blah blah blah...."

Now imagine if that was in a casino

And the staff would basically accuse you of fraud for having accepted a free item without making a purchase.

No, it's kind of complicated but resonates with me.

No one had ever thought about women as scientists or mathematicians, except maybe everyone has heard of Marie Curie. Then the movie Imitation Game came out, then Hidden Figures came out, and both credited women as equal or better mathematicians as their peers. And a couple of women kept in the shadows in their time, like the lady who calculated Apollo program trajectories, got attention.

Socially, women have been actively discouraged from becoming engineers or mathematicians until these very recent events. So it's a role modeling that's new and very positive for us. Trust me, as a woman who blew the doors off every math standardized test but got laughed out and shamed out of pursuing that field, it matters to other girls.

Is the coverage overblown? Yes. But it's also overdue. She did something truly amazing and led the team that proved a century old theory. Of Einstein, no less. Not many people will ever be able to say that.

And the thing itself is wondrous. That it's her was icing on the cake of seeing that glorious image. No telling how many imaginations were awakened, how many people inspired, by one burning image.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

". . . overblown but also overdue." Yes. Men have always diminished the skills and achievements of females. It is often that man might be a mathematician, whereas a woman will merely be referred to as having a degree in mathematics. Independence, assertiveness, drive or mere individuality tend to evoke such male responses as spousal abuse or revenge porn. When the relationship is not close enough for abuse the male will often have a reaction that is more muted. This is why Sylvia Porter had to have her financial columns published in the newspaper as S. Porter or that young author in Oklahoma was published as "S. E. Hinton" rather Susan Hinton.

Now that I work from home. Hardly get sick. No longer catching what's going around the office.

So many questions... as the concept of working from home is difficult for me to wrap my head around.

Do you work defined hours? Or if a customer has a complex problem you may need to keep working on it "after work"?
Do you take a formal lunch break? Formal coffee break?
How often do you interact with a supervisor/superior?
Can you work from a vacation spot seamlessly? (Like if you are in Vegas work days and party nights without using vacation time?)

Working from home Usually is defined by workload rather than hours.

You dont get paid for working 8 hours per se but for completing a task. Generally the employer knows how long it takes and is issuing tasks that take 8 hours for a fulltime job but if you take 11 hours and a bunch of breaks that would be fine

Its more akin to being on salary than paid hourly

Many people who work from home hate it. They say they end up working more. I never worked from home, but do spend about fifteen hours a week researching items on line. EBay is more of a hobby than work these days.

Been trying to remodel my unfinished basement for the last month. It used to be a furnace room way back when they used cool. Person before us threw some cement down but it was a bad job. I figured that I could throw some resurfacer down and be done. Well I did that last month and it didnt work well. Today I figured that I would trowel a skim coat to make it somewhat even and then tonorrow I was going to use resurfacer again. I have $400 into this famn project that I thought would cost $110. Spent 3 hours doing it today and I almost started crying. Instead I cussed a lot and yelled at the wall. Cement is so hard to work when you have only done it a few times. I wish I would have just jackhammer the whole area and layed a new slab. Area is only 11x12 so it probably would have been cheaper to do it that way at this point and would have looked better. Ugggg

Sounds like you had an existing slab. If it was real bad, you could rent a concrete grinder and take it down close to level and then use a self leveling cement just poured on top and let it do the work.

The problem is it is 2 inches slanted. I was afraid to use self leveler because I dobt want to level it. I dont want to bring the low side up 2 inches, I just want to make it smooth. There are spots with broken concrete and a few areas that looks like the moon. Figured a resurfacer would have kind of worked like the leveler but all it did was add the same amount to all areas so now I had the same moon looks just 1/8 inch higher.

So today I tried to fill in the bad areas and make things smooth. I am not sure how it will look when it dries.

Figured a resurfacer would have kind of worked like the leveler but all it did was add the same amount to all areas so now I had the same moon looks just 1/8 inch higher.

So today I tried to fill in the bad areas and make things smooth. I am not sure how it will look when it dries.

You're trying to ice a tilted cake. That takes skill . Good luck.

You could get creative and throw sand down and set stone on top.😀

Ugggg

Use Level Quick, it works very well without much effort. Roll on some glue formula, Mix it, pour it, spread it with a rake and squeegee and bingo. You can walk on it in about 5 hours(I would wait longer). Unfortunately, its about 3.5 x more expensive than concrete....ouch if you are doing a large area. I used it over my wood sub-floor when I put in some flooring and it was really easy. I did burn out a crappy drill mixing it and got some spatter got on the walls. I cleaned it up quick and easy, Lesson learned. I would have just went with regular concrete, but its on the 2nd floor and I don't know if that would be too heavy(probably not, but I didn't want to risk it.)<<< Perhaps someone knows? I know there is a foam adding method for concrete that makes it much lighter and you use way less concrete, but that sounds complicated unless you have a machine for adding the foam.

The sand and stone would be similar to building a wedge to even out the slope, but it would clearly have been easier to just scrape up all the old concrete, get rid of the bodies or whatever it was that caused the defective part and just pour new concrete.

I am trying to do this job on the cheap as I am cheap. I really thought it was going to be easy and just require some leveling cement. $100 and done. Well that was a few hundred dollars ago. I just priced out concrete tonpour new slab and it would have been $350 plus the rental for concrete mixer. Not mixing 100 bags by hand

Do you take a formal lunch break? Formal coffee break?

Working from home and "the gig economy" have created a variety of problems. One man used to actually go out his front door, turn around and then re-enter his home calling out "Honey, I'm home". For some 'gigs' time is of the essence but most seem to be simply projects with extreme flexibility as how they are tackled. Some at home workers find the hours are few but often unpredictable and not confined to a normal workday.

Futurists recently released some sort of study that showed the gig economy was not growing at anywhere near the rates that had been predicted'

At this point it's probably better to just pay someone to fix it.

Sunken Cost fallacy.

I hate carpet and that's what I had/ have upstairs. So, i ordered in the prefect flooring we liked and I figured I would do it myself.

Before that, I got estimates to have my floors leveled and they wanted some outrageous amount. Even the Mexicans wanted more than I felt it was worth. I guess a case of Corona doesn't go that far nowadays.

I still have about 450 feet to go with new flooring. It's just been sitting there for over a year now. It was supposed to be an easy DIY click and lock vinyl flooring system. Not easy!!!! The first problem is the sub-floors are not even enough for this product. Not a problem, that I can fix. But then, the flooring planks wouldn't snap in flush on an entire row without getting gaps on the other end or some crazy problem. After that I had profeninal floor guys from a fancy floor shop come out and they told me the product was milled wrong.

The owner of the company sent a guy out that he trusted. Even his guy said the flooring was milled wrong. The owner of the company just happen to be coming to Vegas around that time. He said, I have sold thousands of units of this exact same product and its never been milled wrong He sent me videos from the same lot he sold it to me from. He said, if I wanted to wait 10 days, he would show me it wasn't defective. If it was he would give me back my money and send me new stuff for free. Or, I could just return it now. I could not pass up that free roll. 10 days later he came over and put in a row just fine without a problem. After that, I did one room myself, but it was not easy or 100% perfect. It took too long, so I have been procrastinating doing the rest myself.

At some point, someone recommended a floor guy on Craig's List. I called the guy and he came over and gave me an estimate for everything. The floor guy was a little strange and very braggy. But, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He had business cards, references and something about being registered and a licence blah blah blah. It was a really good deal for all that leveling and installing the flooring. Only $600 +materials IIRC. He bought over all his equipment and started on the job. It was getting late so It was understandable he had to go. He said he would be back the next day. I gave him a $100 deposit for leveling product. After a few days went by he didn't call or show back up. I called him to see what the deal was and his number was disconnected. F**er got my $100. I started researching where I could find this guy. After I calmed down I just said FK it, no big deal since he probably did $100 worth of work clearing some of the carpet and other stuff. I think he realized he way under bid the job and just how difficult it was to work with this particular product and how much floor leveling needed done.

I'll probably just pay someone to do it this summer. How much you want to bet they are going to say there something is defective with the flooring? I really don't feel like paying $2 a sf for an install. Not to mention the cost of leveling the floors.

My sister had a beautiful floor put in her condo. Had sound proofing stuff underneath. Then the guys moving the fridge back to its original spot dragged it across that expensive material. Yeah, nice gouge trail guys. Now you can find it in the dark at night if you walk barefoot.

They did replace it, but she still got ripped off I think, because they used most of the spare flooring that she was suppose to have for replacement of individual spots if necessary over the years.

They give references -- cause you're suppose to check them out. Should have got the license of his truck or car while he was there.

Axel, or anyone, if you know a good floor tile installer let me know. My wife wants to remove the carpet and tile in our downstairs and replace it all. I assume it is going to be very expensive as we have multiple levels in the downstairs and steps between levels. Definitely not something I could do or would ever try. About 2200 sq feet of tile to be installed.

I am involved in a similar process. I have heard good things about about Amos Tile LV. Apparently he is a tile and stone contractor with a small crew. I have not had him out yet for a quote. Recommended to me by a building supplier I know personally. Good ratings online.

I don't know anyone, however, I did a lot of research on different types of flooring pros and cons (such as maintenance and durability vs price. I assume you are going with ceramic or porcelain tile? Porcelain is signification better IMO, but it will cost you more. This is a low end estimate, $4 per sf for installation and $2 sf for the tile(I seen some really nice stuff for $2) probably around 13k for porcelain. You can probably save 20% if you find a Mexican outside Home Depot. Some of them guys are really good at it since they have been doing it most of their life.

Because they have neighbors who don't like to hear every footsteps they take.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.
