Has anyone watched or is watching Santa Clarita Diet? It’s on Netflix. A bit on the wonky side, but interesting nonetheless.
I'm working in Manor House on Amazon Prime atm. Gonna try that one next. Looked good, reviews are interesting.
It's a beautiful drive, with massive Saguro Cacti lining the road.
I am guessing half the people on this forum don't even know what a tick is.
That's some serious $h*t.Quote: GWAE2 days ago I had this pain on my thigh. I looked and it was red and looked like an ingrown hair or something. This morning it was quite painful and I looked again and realized it was a tick. Thursday we had baseball practice and I wore shorts for the first time outside since the last fall so I am guessing that is when it got me. So 2 days worth of sucking my blood. I got it out in whole so that was good but now I have to worry about lymes disease for the next 6 months.

Everyone knows what a tick is. If your tick was infected it probably transmitted some nasty stuff. Depends on what it was and how much. Just about everybody has antibodies to tick borne diseases, its just that sometimes that is not enough.Quote: GWAEI am guessing half the people on this forum don't even know what a tick is.

Probably not.
Regular ticks may have nasties but it's the deer tick that passes on Lyme. The deer ticks are tiny.
Here's a wood tick and deer tick together;
Think Lime is bad, some bites make you allergic to red meat. Or maybe it was just bovine. Either way, lifetime ban from barbecue.
But you'll be fine. Hope you ate it to send a message.
Quote: FaceThey are absolutely out of control here (and you're "here"). It's nearly a daily occurrence to pick one or two out of my dog. Couple neighbors got bit last year, g/f had one already when the snow was still falling this year.

a friend of mine got bit last year and it played havok with her body. She had a pic line in for nearly a year with IV antibiotics at home. She was really sick for a long time.
I heard about the red meat one. If I ever get them I am jumping off a bridge. No lie... there is no way I am going to live without being able to eat red meat.
Im staying in the city wherr we only have to worry about rats and muggers
I tried not to cry again but that end song always does it.

I like me a good steak but I probably only have 10 or so a year. i have a few hamburgers a year but definitely not something that I look forward to. I think I could give up red meat easier than pork. I love ham, pork chops, ribs, pulled pork, etc. a lot more than red meat,
Here is a pic of ONLY the movies I have NOT watched yet.
Watch the area around the bite. If you get a circular rash, get medical help.
Quote: RonCI had Lyme disease a few years back. It caused a electrical block in my heart and my heart rate dropped into the 30s. Very weird times. IV antibiotics for 30 days after a few days in ICU took care of the issue.
sounds about what happened to my friend minus the ICU

I have never owned a music cassette, a music CD, a VHS, a movie DVD, or a Blu-Ray. I did have four record albums as a child. My car in 1990 had a CD player and I had never heard of a CD at that time.

Today with streaming one doesn't need a closet full of garbage. I never was one for any of that stuff but had friends that had closets and everything else full of that crap. Now you even have just released in theatre movies streaming.
In high school some kids had trunks full of 8 track tapes

I cant stand streaming.
I want to watch a movie suddenly its unavailable but it was in my queue 2 days earlier
Or the weather is bad and the image is weird.
"Downloading.... Downloading... Downloading..."
And my 6 channel surround is much better in Bluray and I can watch select movies in 3D
And if I have the time there are the behind the scenes docs and audio commentary by the film makers or film historians

Are you the one teenage who never joined the Columbia Record/Tape/Music club?

Meh, it's not really a problem. I mean, it is, but the biggest problem is perspective. Rabies is f#$%ing horrifying and you damn sure should be scared of it, but.... it's just not all that easy to get (perhaps in thanks to sensationalized news stories). Ticks are much the same. No doubt they can do you in, but almost no time need be dedicated to it, other than, hey, shower when you get home and look at your body.
I found my first one on me last year. I equate it to being aware now that I have a dog. Since no part of my life has changed, it's reasonable to assume I've had tons on me throughout my life and just never knew what to look for, or (more likely) went from trail straight to bed. Would explain the "spider bites" that never really made sense lol
GWAE didn't confirm whether he ate it or not. Maybe it's in custody. In the cooler.

Nice collection of horror movies. I hope that's the original Black Christmas - first and probably best ever slasher movie. And I'm jealous of the Phantasm boxset.

Yes the original Black Christmas
That box set has the new 5th phantasm film. Like I said thats my unwatched pile.
My house is so full of movies that there are no dishes or food in the kitchen closets. Just stacks of blurays lined up. Those I have watched

Probably correct
First time my gf visited my place she suggested preparing a meal and opened the closets to find this:
Note how I am too short to reach the top shelves so they are mostly empty lol
I'm glad you are living "high on the hog"though that is also high purine content, which goes with high intelligence and general health but also means an increased risk of The Gout.Quote: DRichI love ham, pork chops, ribs, pulled pork, etc. a lot more than red meat,
So maybe I should take a picture and horrify everyone? Must be about 30 or more. Most of them came off my dog, but some off of me. The little tiny ones are the worst, they make a sore that lasts for weeks.

Quote: SOOPOOOut to dinner with friends last night. One tells the story of her next door neighbor who got a doctor's note saying she needs her dog with her in the main cabin on the plane because of the anxiety of having the dog stowed underneath, because the last time the dog was stowed underneath IT WAS RAPED by another dog! Well, I really LOL!
Uggh! A friend had a rabbit and another neighbor brings over her rabbit so they put them in the cage together thinking they would be freinds.
Well the neighbors rabbit rapes my friends rabbit. The screaming is intense and we cant reach in and get the rapist out his body is pumping like a jackhammer a total blur but finally the victim just quiets down and accepts it.
I warned my friend that he may have lots of bunnies soon and he tells me not to worry about that. "They were both male"

A better less self absorbed solution would be for her to either get it together, not have a dog, or get a sitter If she can’t handle it. I get anxiety being around dogs when not having the option to move after getting my palm bitten and torn apart by my cousins dog as a young child, can I get a doctors note that there can’t be dogs allowed on a plane I’m on lol..... I have a pretty bad unintentional habit of glaring at people bringing little yip ankle biter b*tches on a plane as they walk down the aisle.
Quote: petroglyphIs anybody following Brexit? Has the UK surrendered control to the EU?

Quote: GWAEI am confused. I thought this Brexit thing happened like 2 years ago?
I have been somewhat following it. I imagine OnceDear over the pond can explain it better. To us yanks its a weird going on
From what I understand the public vote on Brexit was 2 years ago.
Simply exiting an economy doesnt happen overnight without some type of financial plan which has to be ratified by the parliament which so far has refused all plans as insufficient (sound familiar congressional watchers?)
Meanwhile Brexit is not official till contracts with the EU are satisfied (again leaving an economy of shared notes [Euros] means payment of debts or other satisfying conditions) and that is part of the parliamentary arguments.
OD will have to confirm I got that right. Its all a bit vague on this side of CNN

So the people voted yes to do it, and now the government is trying to figure out how to actually do it?

Brexit is roughly analogous to California leaving the US.
There would have to be border enforcement, new papers/passports required for travel, trade agreements where there were none before, treaties, disentanglement from future commitments, ,their own money, agreements on recognizing each other's civil laws, intel exchanges, everything.
I don't claim to understand the issues much, but 2 years is nothing compared to that entire slog.
It's too cooked, but you get a lot more of the flavorful shell.
I wouldn't want it every time but I enjoyed it.

It's very complicated. To take Barbs example of Calfornia leaving the U.S.. Now imagine everyone who moved to California from another state suddenly finding themselves as non citizens and losing their right to work. Imagine a kid who was born in California but who moved to Seattle to work for Microsoft. Suddenly, he is not a U.S. citizen and ineligible for work. Picture Mattel. Being California based, all its U.S. sales suddenly are foreign. Disney films become foreign. Tens of thousands of Nevada residents need pass thru passport control just to get to work. Hundreds of thousands of people, whose parents were born in California but who lived in Texas their entire lives are told they belong in California.
Now the U.S. Government wants back all the money it gave California to build roads, roads the U.S. no longer will maintain. All that equipment the National Guard has? Federal property. California needs it's own Air Traffic Control system. What happens to the money Californians put into the Social Security system?
California's entire legal system needs be overhauled as Federal crimes no longer apply. California needs it's own immigration and customs. Will goods entering Nevada for delivery to the east coast be subject to customs and tariffs?
Imagine Congress splitting up those fifty something Congressional seats. Is anyone on the Supreme Court from California? How about high ranking Service members? As California has over 10% of the population, it's safe to say we would suddenly lose 10% of the best and brightest of our Federal employees.
Is a new currency introduced?
Quote: GWAESome of those I understand but would they really back date everything? I think if you were born 3 years ago in CA and moved to Nebraska you would still be a US citizen? Maybe not though since if you were born 3 years ago and still live in CA you wouldn't be.
No one has all the answers. That's why it's taken two years to try and answer that. Citizens of the EU can freely move and live within it. An Italian can live and work in England, a Brit can work and live in Italy. Once England isn't in the EU, that changes.
Before the EU, Ireland was a divided island with customs and border restrictions at the border of the Republic and Northern Ireland( a British province). A generation of Irish grew up freely traveling the island. Now, a passport will be required and duties required on goods crossing the border. Even though Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU, they must follow the will of the entire British electorate
. British subjects living in the U.S. are losing the protections provided by the U.S.- EU treaty, and are at the mercy of a yet to be negotiated new agreement.
