Such as "Alcohol is 60% more affordable than in 1980. -Public health"
Sounds like a great country if poor can afford to get drunk, it keeps them off heroin. I don't really even know where these so-called sin taxes even go, think they go to pay for prostitutes for the lawmakers.
It's funny because the film maker is probably trying to say how bad alcoholism is, and I just think that's a great country. I would be a drunk if I could have alcohol delivered.
With DUI laws we make bars charge higher prices for drinks in order to stay in business.

Quote: MaxPenSounds like a unique opportunity for a restaurant to pass off sub standard product for a high price. I'm reminded of the steakhouse Herbs&Rye on Sahara. They make it super dark where you need to use a pin light to make out the menu. There meat is substandard Select grade at best but they are charging as if it is Prime grade.

No, Golden Steer keeps the lights on. They are a joint living on their past reputation. They are another place that is overrated.

I find Golden Steer to be an above average overpriced steakhouse. My wife and I used to think the steakhouse at Silverton was very nice for the price but they have been raising their prices too. There are not many steakhouse in Las Vegas that offer a decent value anymore.

We were given smocks, and the option to wear as much or as little as we desired. The company also featured naked dining under normal light settings. They said it was popular in California.

I was directly under it. They made the gambling cruise come in early, because its international waters route is in the danger zone. We docked at 1:45. It lifted at 1:50 under mostly clear skies, so we saw it for about 8 minutes. We were maybe 6 miles away at most, which is about as close as anyone can get. It was gorgeous.
MiniTR. It was the 7th anniversary of them running the boat, so it was an invitation - only trip. I was surprised to be invited, as I haven't been on that much. It was me and a guest for filet mignon and rock lobster dinner, carved pork, stuffed chicken breasts stuffed with shrimp and vegetables, choice of fresh salads, 2 kinds of potatoes, 2 hot vegetable sides, and a nice dessert selection.
Valet parking and boarding were free, as was dinner, and premium liquors, beers, and wines were included all night gambling or not. They served dinner in shifts, reserved first come first served. They bought a rolling cart 6 ft high of Dominoes pizza, came on board just before we sailed. Guess that and the bar menu went to those who didn't get the banquet.
Sadly, the filet was steam-baked and 1/4" cuts, the rock lobster could not be cut even with a knife. The rest of the food was pretty good. The desserts looked generous but I passed.
They gave everyone 8 raffle tickets and drew about every 40 minutes, starting at $777, and going up: the big prize was $17,777. All cash - I was surprised it wasn't fp. Sadly, i am not lucky with raffle tickets.
They also had a loss rebate of $1500/person on slots only, though losses can be redeemed on e-roulette, v21, vp, and e-craps as well as slots, so not too bad.
They let too many people on board. There was not a single empty slot (and they have about 1100) until after 11pm, and even then it was slim pickings. Forget VP. The tables were all full with people behind waiting, except for MS stud, which is new on the boat, and sat half-empty all night.
All the table minimums were up; bj was $15 (usually 5-10 and up) and carnivals were all $10. The dealers and pit bosses were very crabby, surprising to me since a) they are usually quite friendly and laid back and b) these were all their best and most frequent customers. Not sure what that was about.
Could have been partly that the AC, usually shockingly cold, had crapped out and they had huge rental units taking up pit seats and ugly white ductwork everywhere. Floor to ceiling foot-diameter hoses snaking up to the ventilation system. I was lucky/smart enough to get there an hour earlier than usual, and got to reserve my UTH seat literally on top of one of the AC units, which I used for an involuntary armrest most of the night. Aaahhh. Humid Florida in July afternoon and evening defeated.
Played ok, but was card-dead, went down nearly $800 before it turned around. After 4 hours I was only down $250, so decided to go slotting. First spin for $3.00 hit a $525 "jackpot" that locked up the machine (ugh). They responded right away, but then took about 1/2 hour to pay. As it turned out, I should have quit then, but they had the loss rebate on, so I played until they shut the boat down unexpectedly early for the launch.
Overall, ended down slightly plus tips, got a folding nylon chair in a carry case as a door prize/parting gift. Enjoyed the evening, in all. Kudos to the company for getting the AC on board. My sympathy for all the pools of vomit from the free booze and the motion of the ocean. And nice bonus to have VIP seating under the stars for the launch.
I took a companion with me that first voyage who happened to be at a low point in her life. She was just a friend but was pleasantly surprised when I paid for her boarding fees and buffet. She was utterly flabbergasted when I bankrolled her seven hundred dollars which she turned into an additional seven hundred and change. The free booze may have affected her gambling as towards the end she was placing toke bets like crazy and the dice crew loved her for it. (The box commented on my showing clean hands after every toss but don't know if it annoyed him or not. I do know the name 'fleastiff' amused them.)
The half-empty Mississippi Stud table shows the advantage of being familiar with a variety of games. Even if one is not particularly enthusiastic about a certain game, most of use are quite enthusiastic about a vacant chair.
My only real worry is that if the ship's air conditioning system broke down, are they in some sort of financial trouble involving deferred maintenance? That might worry me.

When our company had the casino boat it would always take multiple days to get major repairs made. Most parts for the ship had to come in from small towns in Europe.
Well, that is strange and very puzzling but it is also quite re-assuring. On that initial voyage I was probably the only passenger who actually read his boarding pass to see which Muster Station we were assigned to and informed my companion about it. This was on a ship that never gets more than fifteen miles from shore and has a zillion pleasure boats and fishing craft nearby. Its just that I take ships and planes seriously, as I do hotel and casino security. I'm not a fanatic about it, just aware of dangers even if they might be unlikely. That is why I consider indications of deferred maintenance to be a serious concern.Quote: DRichWhen our company had the casino boat it would always take multiple days to get major repairs made. Quote: GWAEI just watched some rugby. I never really watched an entire match before. I really enjoyed it. I wonder why this never became a thing in the US. A cross between foot and soccer. Good stuff.
It's a thing among small Midwestern schools (college/university), if nowhere else, both men's and women's teams. My niece played for her school all 4 years and loved it. I never saw a match in person, but it looked (via FB) like they had an absolute riot.
Apparently there aren't that many people needed to make a team, equipment costs are minimal, can be played on a practice field, etc. So a lot of schools can offer it.

"Riot" might be an apt description. My impression is that they joyfully beat the bejabbers out of each other while wearing little-to-no protective gear.
I always think of the bumper sticker I once saw: "Rugby players eat their dead."

They didnt really seem to hit all that hard. Since there is no real passing there aren't any of those knock out blows. Since there are no helmets there is no tackling with their heads. It is mostly just drag them down to the ground

Because until about 10 years ago, 7 on 7 Rugby was not very popular.
The traditional game is 15 on 15 and much more boring. A similar amount of scoring occurs in both games, but the 15 on 15 game lasts 80 minutes of play vs. 14 minutes for 7 on 7. Nevertheless, Rugby World Cup '95 (based on the 15 v 15 game) was one of my favorite Genesis games growing up. And I did watch most of the tournament this weekend.
FYI, the US won a World Rugby 7s tournament for the first time ever this year. In Vegas of course. ;)

wow. don't think I'll be visiting this month.
I remember from some movie the name of which I can't remember:
some guy says he's going to Vegas.
the other guy says he won't go it's too hot there.
the 1st guy says yeah, but it's dry heat.
the other guy says "so is an oven. but I'm not going into one of those either"
Because someone will want my head to open it.Quote: onenickelmiracleI'm never getting an iPhone.
Last July I looked at an empty lot in an adult community. Owners were asking 25,000 but it was on the market for almost forty days.
I offered $18k and was told 23K would get it done. I told my guy to wait a week and offer 20K. He called me and said it sold for 24.5 which indicates to me the buyers didn't try very hard.
Two months ago, a similar lot was offered at 40K. I passed.
Sunday, I drive past and see someone has put a new manufactured home on the property. I call and am told it is $174,000. He claims they paid 55k for the land alone. I tell him it was listed at 40K and hang up. There was another house there I'd been very interested in. It was semi-unique as it was a corner property bordering the developments RV storage yard and had a much bigger plot of land.
It was large enough for a decent backyard. They were asking $109 but it went to contract before I bid. For whatever reason, deal fell through and it's back on the market at $179,000.
I predict a serious correction in the next year.

I would take that bet. The Las Vegas economy is going to continue to be strong for the next two years. After that, who knows but it will eventually correct.

I would like action on that. Can we up the stakes a little though?
I am thinking along the lines of 2 ribeyes and 1 McChicken sandwich. I think that equals 3USD. without tax of course.

I'm not sure how to value a trailer jack stand. I don't want to exceed his $tolerance threshold. He didn't take me up on the $3 value so it's all a moot point anyway.
