Well... now officially beating a dead horse... I AGREE with you that leaving during a negative shoe makes sense.... The scenario we were discussing was leaving a positive shoe...

I was trying to make the point that even if i leave some positive shoes during the course of my lifetime. It wil be ok. ill grind away untill I find another and from my experience there is always another. I dont need to pickup every penny I come across to have a pocket full of change just most of them.

I am seeking recommendations as to how to go about recouping my recent insane loss (17k) - I am proposing the following schedule for myself - $2,500 per trip until recouped - thoughts?

hey ace, tough break..
instead of thinking about the past, look forward to future high counts.
don't chase this money or any future loss in a cold session.
use this experience as a lesson to observe a stricter policy toward loss limits,
either two cold shoes, or a dollar figure.
i usually text myself my gain or loss after each shoe
and tell myself what result will enable me to continue after each subsequent shoe.
if i don't meet the goal, i call it for the day.
oh, and for god's sake, never play when you are not counting.
to me this is like playing with eyes closed.
best wishes and good luck

Yuck, how boring. .

Yup. As is anything you take seriously. Golf, for
instance, is very enjoyable for most players.
But the few that take it seriously think its
excruciatingly boring. Jack Nicklaus got up
at 6am when he was in HS and played 18
holes before he went to school. Arnold
Swarzenegger got up at at 4am when he was
in the army and lifted for 2 hours before the
rest of his mates got up. He hated it. But he did it.

Your 17k is gone forget about it and or recouping it. Start this next session fresh with a clear head and win new cash.
From your post it was clear your lack of self control turned what would have been a small or moderate loss to a heavy one.
Sometimes the stars are not aligned. and it becomes more about minimizing loss.Take your cash and divide it amongst the days you wish to play. IF you lose on the first day you must quit you cannot rebuy. find something else to do 25 cent video poker stare at girls while eating doughnuts whatever. If you go on a streak do whatever you want up until the point you lost your buy in.treat the second day the same and so on. If you can do this it will control your emotion for you. This will eliminate the one time big blow up loss. however you could still suffer the back to back to back losing sessions. I have no answer for those

Easy, really.

Earn it.

You know, at your job.

Then you've got a new bankroll.

We all lose ...

There is something in the air when we are winning - a feeling of invincibility.

There is something in the air when we are losing - a feeling of desperation.

Is there a difference?

when i find emotion creeping into my gambling too much i like to ask:
WWTD?...
what would terminator do?

Kyle Reese:
Listen, and understand.
That terminator is out there.
It can't be bargained with.
It can't be reasoned with.
It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear.
And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

My thread about Revel AC kicking my a$$ prompted the question as to how gamblers lose
control of emotions during losing streaks - I would like to open to forum to discussing the wide range of
emotions we go through from euphoria to , dare we acknowledge it "suicidal" thoughts - let's have an open
and honest discussion of our "gambling emotions"

I understand that in the Poker Room there is no such thing as emotions because showing ANY emotion would be considered a Tell and all poker players, unless on TV at the time, act as if they are dead.

Other than that, gamblers really do have emotions and that is how the casino makes its money. They know that you might not get to Vegas for awhile so they know you won't be any too likely to walk away from a losing table. If you do, they have other inducements before you escape the casino entirely. The "buzz" of festivity and female phereomones is to counter the effects of your emotions.

We all used to sing about going to the Camp Town race track with our hat caved in and coming home with a pocket full o' tin. The casinos know that hope mis-shapes our reality. The whole town runs on "the buzz". Clubs give local women free entry but the rules are clear: no cash and no bras allowed. The casinos have no clocks, there is no tomorrow ... there is only tonight and its tonight that your ship is going to come in and Lady Luck will smile upon you the same way as that gorgeous waitress just smiled at you when she gave you the free drink... now get your emotions in gear because its Vegas, Baby, Vegas!!!

Ahhhh however, the Revel AC is different because the casino has floor to ceiling windows overlooking to ocean - as such, it is quite easy to determine what time of day it is.

So perhaps they compensate by pumping more oxygen ... of facing their air conditioning intake towards the ocean for all those negative ions or something. The "buzz" is a mixture of stimuli.

" And of course, our gambling mantra...

I have never been able to use my favorite movie line, but once.

Watching the movie The Hustler in 1962 I was still not sure that Fast Eddie was going to beat Minnesota Fats.
Until Jackie Gleason said " shoot pool , Eddie" as Eddie was lecturing George Scott about life.
But I knew Fast Eddie was gonna win when he said,
" I'm shooting pool, Fats. When i miss, then you can shoot."
