If everybody pays. We know there will be a few
that are never heard from again, that haven't
been here since they made the bet. And how
can she predict to within a few ounces. For
her sake and everybodies sake, you better
have something better that a bathroom scale.
They can easily be off by 5 pounds one way
or the other.

In a nutshell: Soopoo replaced HB at the victory
dinner with another woman, HB threatened police
action, and she hasn't been here since.

So, maybe if you bring 160.8 lbs of gold, and one of those giant balancing scales for her to get on.

Bet? What bet? I plan on giving HB $1350 as a token of my gratitude if she makes it to 160.8 lbs or less on October 17, 2012. If she does not make it to that low a weight HB told me she would donate $150 to a charity of my choosing.

As I said the last time this came up, these are just friendly bets where the loser is on the honor system to pay. This is unlike a wager, which is a formal contract, and must be paid in advance. As SOOPOO said, I view these "bets" are more like promises to pay if a certain event happens or doesn't happen.

On the other hand, the actual results will say a lot about the character of those involved. The word "honor" in your description is not insignificant.

Yeah, I always felt she was a very determined person and all those charts and measurements of calories and stuff reflected grim determination. I've always wondered why the "odds" though... it seems so reversed to me. These were "incentive bets" or perhaps "carrot bets" so the odds should have been flipped.

I made the original odds, the 9 -1 bet. My experience with obese women was that of those that started to diet, none were successful without weight loss surgery. And HB had an extremely limited time frame, 9 months, to accomplish the task. I think that at the beginning of the bet the odds were fair to both sides. There were some who felt that 9 -1 was not high enough. Of course the substantial financial incentive was an added incentive, and looks like it will have been enough to prod HB over the finish line.

In my experience, one of the best bets you can make is that a friend will fail at either losing weight or quitting smoking. Especially the latter. Of course, it is looking like HB will be the exception. It is easy to say in retrospect that laying 9 to 1 was too much. However, if she succeeds it will be a remarkable achievement, and I will be proud to pay.

With less than a month to go, does anyone know how HB is progressing? Is there 10lbs to go or less? Just curious if there was an update, I don't believe there was a commitment to keep the thread updated, but inquiring minds want to know.....is it close? I am rooting for HB's success.....it will be a remarkable achievement if completed!

HB says she is counting down the days and is on a strict schedule to stay on target. This is a picture she posted. The 24 is the number of days to go. I can't read the rest, but I assume it is her diet and exercise regimen.

It's true. And the funniest guy around to them is 35 and makes $400,000 a year. He has a nice home in Malibu with a pool that he swims laps in daily. He also plays tennis and lifts weights, and he just can't seem to spend enough money on the women he dates. They think this guy is just hillarious....

And then you hang out with him and he is laying knock knock jokes on you.

HB said she's not revealing the weight in the last few weeks, so it's "interesting". It was part of the big blow up her and SooPoo had... he wanted updates, she didn't want to give them.

Your value of interesting maybe different to Hot Blonde's. <shrug>

There's a blog update from July 9th where she stated she was 192lb (or similar, I just looked but forgot). I thought there was one early August, but can't be too bothered to scan back through this thread, as it might be in here.

I must admit that without the weekly updates it has taken the shine off the whole event.

It will be a case of "HB made it, you owe her $900" or "HB didn't make it, she owes you $100".

The elimination of the updates turns it from a personal-sharing experience into a purely financial one. As my $900 was intended as a 'carrot' rather than a wager (along with others) then it would have been nice to have followed the event in a similar vein.
