Dude, if you think men and women are equal in this,
thats not my problem. I do know from dealing with
dieting women for the last 40 years, the fact that
they're on a diet is whats important. Losing weight
is irrelevant. They want to able to tell their friends
that they're trying, and thats what counts. What
people think is always more important than the actual
reality to women.

When I lost 40 pounds I never once said I was on a diet. I tried to not talk about it, because I considered it a personal battle, but if forced I would say "I'm trying to lose weight."

When I'm losing weight I never say anything to
anybody. Dieting is admitting I have a problem
and why would I do that. Women think when
men get together, we all talk about whats
bothering us, like they do. Nope, we really do talk
about sports and cars and politics.

I for one would look at the cancelling of the bet for my little sum an answer to prayer. As this thread went through its twists and turns I got more and more uncomfortable with the whole idea and worried about how dear HB was doing; with the weight loss and other issues. I will continue my prayers for you HB but would be glad to end my little bet with you. Get better soon and God Bless!

That is honorable of you, Padre.

However, when it comes to changing the terms of a bet after it is made, especially if it looks like the person asking is going to lose, I go by this verse (which I had to do some searching to find):

Quote: Matthew 5:37 (KJV)

But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

This was my interpretation, too.

But I also respect the Wiz's interpretation of the 'sanctity of the bet' concept.

For years I played golf with a friend at his club. I don't belong to a club. So I would always pay him the greens fees he would have to pay to have me as his guest. But for drinks, snacks, lunch, etc. you could not use cash, and it would always go on his bill. He would never take money for that. But we would always make friendly wagers, and at the end of a round, without fail, one of us would be taking a dollar or two out to pay the other. Even if it was one dollar, the debt was paid.

My other golfing buddy, the one referred to here as 'golfingbuddy', also sometimes makes these bets. One of the bets we make is for 'greenies', which for non golfers means you got on the green in one shot. So we made this bet. But the golf course we were playing, new to us, had very long par 3's. 'Golfingbuddy' could not even try to get on three of the four par 3's. He said 'oh well', but did not try to cancel the bet.

I believe that the bet should stand as the high 9/1 odds catered for various circumstances that could affect the outcome IMO.

However, I will accept a 'friendship' early settlement of $1 as I wasn't really in it for the money.

I'm still accepting more bets, so bring them all in, and double up if you haven't already.

There are planty of reasons to bet against me. The plan I have set out could actually not work as planned, i.e. I don't actually lose as much weight as I've calculated out on paper. I could just simply lose motivation... 9 months is a long time! I have chronic back pain and have seen a doctor 4 times over a 5 week period last month and my back pain kept me pretty immobile. If my chronic back pain flares up again it could mean having to ditch my workouts and making it impossible to go grocery shopping... did someone say pizza delivery? Even without the back pain I could be tempted to eat all the delicious yummy foods I liked to enjoy before. People could give me gifts of food or drink and I could be tempted to give in. I could injure myself doing all the high-intensity cardio I've been doing. I ride my bike to and from the gym each day and I could be hit by a car (god forbid). There could be a family emergency where I would have to leave my regular daily schedule. Etc., etc. ...

I still want to hit my goal in $9000 in bets against me. Hey, for those of you who REALLY don't want to bet I encourage you to ask friends of yours who might not be on the forum if they'd like to bet as well. Of course they'd have to be a friend who really will pay up if and when they lose!

Medical issues can be a valid cause for postponement.
My opinion is that issues that require hospital stay could be considered as a reason for postponement by appropriate duration, since one is not in control of their body for that time.
Issues resulting in legal medical leave from work, maybe in some very particular cases, however not like this, plus 9 months is a long time and most people do get sick at least once in such a period.

P.S. I have no stake in this (and, in hindsight, happy about it).

It's not going to work. She won't pay, and will call everybody who dares to demand it heartless meanies or just negative, or whatever ...
I think, that is why most people are so willing to give her some kind of a way out "be last in line", "$1 settlement" etc. - nobody wants to be called a meanie :)

Earlier I said the odds should be 50-1 minimum. Upon further review, I'd estimate 100-1 would be more realistic. Laying 9-1 looks too easy. Very little chance someone weighing 250 immediately has the pride or discipline to return to a normal weight in such a short period of time. People that weigh 250 get that way due to lack of pride, laziness, and little or no discipline. People do not change what they are just because the calendar changes from Dec 31 to Jan 1. Reason why I will not take the bet, you ask? Here's why:

1) This is a internet forum. I'm supposed to take a bet real dollars with someone I've never met? Are you nuts?

2) Sounds like a scam to me. How can this be verified? Maybe HB doesn't currently weigh 250? Maybe she already weighs 160. Maybe she has a twin sister, or a look-a-like that currently weighs 160?

3) How do we know HB isn't going to cheat via surgery, or liposuction? I'm supposed to take the word of a stranger 2,000 miles away? No thanks.

4) Most likely outcomes- people that take the bet will win and not be paid; or people that take the bet will be scammed and lose $900.

Remember people, the human race is divided into two groups- the suckers and the sharps.

Sorry to be so harsh- it's just my honest opinion.

This was my assessment of the bet (posted Jan 11th).

I am another forum member with no horse in this race but I think WongBo and others are right on the money. I've been waiting for HotBlonde to outline her thoughts FOR HERSELF before I commented. She's been quite prolific in the past and supports her posts well enough to comment about this - possibly the most important aspect of the challenge yet. I've been puzzled why she hasn't posted...

It seems like her first few posts regarding the challenge were begging people to take her on. The odds were clearly showing that she would be the underdog in the bet and several times she solicited even more bets against her. She wrote quite a bit about how pumped up she was and "unbeatable" [paraphrased]. Even after the steroids/weight gain week she remained confidant that she would turn it around.

If she doesn't make the agreed weight limit in October then she's lost the bet. This isn't like the situation the Wiz posted about a while back with a friend who "rigged" the outcome of a bet with him at a stop sign. I don't see why she would even request a postponement...win it or lose it. It was a fair bet with a huge win for her if she could pull it off - kinda like calling a hop bet (nice payoff but maybe not too smart a play).

Given her recent reluctance to post about anything I'm guessing this will just evaporate into the etherworld and some people will be happy to let it go and others will have a bad taste in their mouths...and HotBlonde will fade away from the forum.

First, I think HotBlonde will probably make her goal.

Second, if she does lose, by so much as one ounce or one day, I'm sure she will make good on her wagers. (Although I'm sure all males will hope she finds herself destitute and has to let them take it out in trade instead).

That back injury is probably from too much weightloss exercise so if she takes a vacation for a week or two it should disappear and she will be fine.

I'll take that action, but, just to be fair, I've had conversations with HB leading me to believe she understands that she will not reach the goal by October 17. So if you want the action, it is available to you. You do not have to mail $10 to me, if we make the bet we can resolve it on October 17. Let me know.

Are you this childish in person, or are you just a bully
on the internet? I owe nothing to you. Not a reason,
not an explanation, nothing. If I choose not to make
a bet on a public forum with people I've never met,
thats my business. For you to malign my character
over it just because you're not getting your way is
the height of spoiled brat ego centered behavior.

Grow up.

I don't need to malign your character. Your posts are public. People can decide for themselves about you. "I owned a bar so I know....." "I have daughters so I know...." "I've seen mrjjj win at roulette so I know...." "I know Obama can't win..." "I've lost weight so I know..."

Just so i can apologize, who have I bullied?

Me, about not taking a bet. I should make a bet
because you say so? And if I don't I'm this and
I'm that? You sound like a fishwife, berating her
husband. What can it possibly matter to you what
I do, or don't do, that you have to turn it into personal
attacks on my character?

I'll offer the olive branch.... Of course you don't have to make a bet you don't want.
I'll buy you dinner if we coincide in Vegas at any time.

I'll give you a better deal than any money...how about either lose the weight or have a massive fucking heart attack by 50, have to get rushed to ER, have your ass paddled to get your heartbeat back, then look forward to a double, triple, or quadruple bypass...
Sound appealing enough? Unless your 6', 250lbs for a woman is a fucking walking deathtrap.

Please inform HotBlonde that sex burns alot of calories and that therefore the men of the forum will be ever so happy to contribute to her weight loss campaign.

Or perhaps we should just chip in and buy her an unbuttered pop corn device?

Am I the only one who wonders at the obvious narcissism of this thread? Let's all talk about me for 40 weeks ...

Classic narcissism...

Social comparison information is especially salient as the narcissist processes social information
In terms of its relevance to the self, that is, he reacts to negative feedback
with more anger and aggression and lower self-esteem than a non-narcissist.

AND WAS THIS PREDICTION EVER TRUE :

This is getting ugly, folks. You have a long LONG way to
go till Oct, and the obvious bitterness that some of you
who made the bet feel at HB's success so for is pretty
evident. My suggestion is to lock this thread and let HB
make her weekly report on the blog. As`she loses more
weight, this negativity will only get worse. I don't think she
will be scared off by people being mean to her.

FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY

Look into your soul and try and figure out why there is no man in your life. I doubt it has to do with the weight. You can't even figure out who your friends are....

AND OF COURSE THIS PREDICTION

This will be my last post on this thread until the end of the challenge. I started out this challenge as a FAVOR to HB. I bet against HB as a FAVOR to HB. There have been many texts and conversations, which I swore to HB that I would not divulge to the forum. Since I am disarmed from defending myself, I will fade into the sunset. I wish you well, HB, and hope to present you with $1350 on October 17.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

a woman who has a combination of issues that all contribute to her weight ... in this case, she has an evident psychological disorder that accompanies her weight issue ... perhaps dealing more directly with the psychological disorder and its cause will make the weight loss much easier for her ...

Don't let HB's childish behavior make you act childish yourself.

****************************** you are right. I was unfair and sarcastic to you. My apologies.

AND FOR HOT BLONDE AFTER READING THIS

SOOPOO I am sorry and I won't bring up any old stuff any more. I don't want to fight, not with you, not with anyone.

****************************************************************************************************************************************************

a photograph of a scale with a pair of feet on it hardly constitutes proof.
i would want notarized proof. what other kind of proof is there in this type of case?

I am un able to accurately 'figure you out', and I have NO IDEA whether you will be at 160, or 260 for that matter, on October 17....

prediction: won't reach goal, won't pay immediately

AND HE SHOWS WHY HE IS CALLED THE " GOOD" FATHER

I hate to say this but at this point I would like to just send my $90 to HB as a gift for her hard work and wish her well. I have been reading this thread much like how I watch Jersey Shore when I happen to run across it on TV. I want to look away because it is painful to watch but have a hard time doing so. With the recent developments of HB having such a tough time I just want to help her and turn the channel off of her private life.

So Dear HB, I pray that the good Lord Jesus will bless you with the wisdom to not only pursue with such dedication the fleeting and changing goal of "hotness" but also the lasting virtue of "holiness". May you recognize that no matter what others say - you are a precious and dear daughter of your loving Father in Heaven. May the love of God and the love of yourself be the true riches that motivate you to complete this challenge which so many of us know you can do! You go girl and God Bless!
Amen

***************************************************************

Fat people are everywhere! It's easy to be fat and stay fat. Very, very few people can lose that much weight. That's hard!

Also history of not paying debts (unpaid medical bills). I would not trust someone to pay that has a history of not paying.

Staying fat and not paying is the most likely result.

Whether or not she keeps it off is a different matter (although I hope she does), the ass whipping she has taken in this thread should be more than enough motivation to get there by the prescribed date.

It's not going to work. She won't pay, and will call everybody who dares to demand it heartless meanies or just negative, or whatever

This was my assessment of the bet (posted Jan 11th).

One thing is clear- She ain't paying!

Exactly. Most people on this thread seem like they genuinely want to help this HotBlonde person. Nothing would help more than a dose of reality; it's time she accepts responsibility for her actions.

She won't lose the weight, will lose the bet, will pay out a lot of money thereby getting depressed, will put on weight, will post a challenge ...

Given her recent reluctance to post about anything I'm guessing this will just evaporate into the etherworld and some people will be happy to let it go and others will have a bad taste in their mouths...and HotBlonde will fade away from the forum.

She hasn't played me. The twists and turns of this bet have been + EV for me. The banter provides untold hours of reading enjoyment. I never expected to really take her money, I think I even promised to donate it to charity if I won. If she would have miraculously succeeded, the money I would have paid her would have been worth it, as I would have been involved in helping someone turn their life around. I was ALWAYS in a win-win situation.
She hasn't texted me back for the last two days. But in a previous correspondence she did say she was upset with many comments, and that her only responsibility was to show up October 17 and weigh in, and either collect or pay off the bets. She is correct on that account.
