This group that I ignore (don't bother posting anything related to me, I won't respond unless I happen to read your post by accident) whom I call the "four legs good, two legs bad crowd," and really it's just a few maybe four or so posters here, are making a mostly psychological response to the content here. You gotta understand that these are five dollars players or non-players, for whom anyone who has anything as in any measure of success at anything inculcates a jealousy and envy response. That is why they are against DarkO for example, not because they think he couldn't be doing what he is doing, but because he's doing more than they are, staying at home broke. Does it make someone less important because he has less than another? No, not intrinsically.

But with these guys their response to others is based on some disappointments setbacks they must have sustained in their lives, such that now, they lash out at anyone who claims to be doing more than they achieved. You may positively feel the seething resentment in their posts. Not healthy. You'll also notice them taking turns getting forum suspended. The "four legs good, two legs bad crowd" are an envious lot. It's sad actually, and as long as people like that are given any stock, this forum will remain in the doldrums. I'd advise you all to put them on Ignore the way I have. When was the last time any one of them contributed any interesting content?

That's one thought. Another is they are simply allergic to bullshit.

It's like an ant you stepped on as a child, just enough to allow the ant to still stir not enough to smash kill it entirely.

But what does this loathsome barely there insect-like activity amount to?

1) Posts (not so much threads) by old-time members stating that there is no way to beat the casino short of BJ card counting or schemes to drain casino player cards of free play and promotions, low level schemes they call "AP."

2) Posts (and occasional threads) on how new members must be former banned members.

3) Did I mention (1) already? Well then, two only so far....

3) RANTS

4) Off-topic threads such as about how to lose weight or what did you eat today that have nothing to do with gambling.

That covers about 90% of the content here these days.

Occasionally you get a real world review of a casino or casino gambling trip, but if any review or story claims any sort of win, the "four legs good, two legs bad" crowd steps in quickly with (1), which is again, that there is no way to beat the casino short of BJ card counting or schemes to drain casino player cards of free play and promotions, low level schemes they call "AP."

So just calling it how I see it, not trying to be mean... this is an incredibly ignorant post.

Sure, there might not be "as much" activity but that also takes in to account the time of year. We don't have the spring fling during summer. No NFL pick 'em contest during summer, and more people are out taking vacations and doing things in real life. Every summer the forums seems to dry up a bit in hot topics/etc.

I have no idea where you got "some old timers" claim you can't beat casinos...etc, etc. I quit my $100k job at the end of last year to become a full time AP. If you think there aren't ways to beat casinos then you're clearly misinformed/ignorant. Also, I disagree that what you stated is the 'majority' of what you see. I can't recall the last time I saw someone post on the forums stating card counting was one of the best ways to beat a casino. I really can't. So that's just factually inaccurate.

ALSO - More reasons you see less and less actual AP posts:

1) Loose lips sink ships.
2) EDUCATION. Everyone on these forums (not newbies) are much more educated that the regular joe when it comes to gambling. We all know how to load the Wiz's odds site and check things for percentages/strategies. Thus, that's going to breed less conversation about simple gambling topics. "Hey, how do I play this hand in Jacks or Better??? ...answer: go look it up with this link..." We (thankfully) aren't spammed with horrifically simple questions like this in all topics gambling. That being said you can't really discuss a ton PAST the Wizards Odds site because that's when you're getting in to AP... See (1).
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

It’s like at my parents store, my mom gets so irritated when people come up and tell her that the prices are too high. If they are too high then go away, if the forum isn’t interesting enough for you, go away. I can guarantee nobody will miss you Mdawg.

I look at it a tad different PG. In Buffalo, golf prices are very low. I went to play at one of the 5 or 6 very nice local courses in the area a recent weekday morning. The price was $49, which is quite a bit higher than the local equal competitors, which run between $35 and $38. The place was nearly empty, and I told the manager why. I have an interest in the place staying open, and I know at $38 they get more than double the golfers they get at $49. I've told restaurants the same thing. There was a new restaurant that advertised itself as making the best martinis.... They were charging $16 a pop while other upscale competitors were $10-$12 a drink. I told the bartender that they will get people in once to try, but repeat business will be rare. Closed within a few months.

Probably the worst post ever without context.

Can you at least post:

Population vs tax dollars paid
Annual dollars spent on public welfare including WIC and CHIP
Money spend on public education
Average tax rate
Dollars spent on aid to foreign nations
Money spent on illegals coming into our country

You get the idea.

But far easier to bash America for spending money to keep us free and safe.

billryan,

This "secret list" business reminded me of a fantastic scene from the classic 1962 movie "The Manchurian Candidate." The scene starts about one minute into this clip, when Senator John Yerkes Iselin (played by the fine actor James Gregory) rises at a news conference to question the Secretary of Defense. Also seen in the clip are Angela Lansbury and Frank Sinatra:

1. Gaming mathematics is exhausted as a topic. Nowadays, analysts just write looping codes that evaluate every possible hand and calculate EV and returns, without generating any insight about the game or leaving any room for discussion.

2. Moderators beat forumites as if we are baby seals. If we say 'troll" or 'racist," we are clubbed to death. Younger females, like Nathan and Luscious, are clubbed to death. Someone mentions some problems with the forum and moderators invite them to get their butt out of the forum, like that is going to help the problem. It's forum-ite genocide, a social media holocaust. And, at the end of days, BBB chatting with OD (and FACE chatting with himself) is just BORING, that's not a forum that anyone wants.

3. Poker and fantasy sports are the hot gambling topics, and have been for years. And the WOV forum has never been about those topics. We discuss ideas brought up in blackjack books in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

4. Vegas is SO five-minutes-ago. Everything new in gambling is happening somewhere else.

5. What are the most boring possible hobbies? Many would say "coin collecting" and "stamp collecting." So, WOV steps up to that challenge - our longest lasting thread is Chip-Of-the-Day. ZZZzzzzz.......

And, at the end of days, BBB chatting with OD is just BORING, that's not a forum that anyone wants.

I think even the Wizard might agree with you on that to some degree.

That chip thread has like 3 regular posters.

Poker has been discussed here but if you havent noticed theres an entire popular forum dedicated to poker (and many others as well) that have some of the more popular poker players. It makes sence to me that's where one would go if they wanted to talk about poker.

fantasy sports. Start a thread and educate us. People claim they can beat FD and DK. I have yet to hear of anyone I trust claim this is the case anymore. I have an open mind, so lets talk about it if you wish.

Im not sure, but it seems to me most of the cool kids are on Twitter and other social media. Yes, im on twitter @Axelwolfvegas , I actuality had to go look up my handle. I'm still getting used to Twitter since it seems a little messy to me. I have mainly posted up some pic's of casino stuff I have collected and made a few comments with other AP's.

For the most part, the regulars that frequent this forum have history on the forum and know the other posters. Basically, they are just more comfortable here. a few will come a few will go, im just not sure what one can do to make that change much.

"Vegas is SO five-minutes-ago. Everything new in gambling is happening somewhere else." Bring the other stuff on and lets talk about it. What's that saying?.... Lead, Follow or GTF out if the way.

Yes, OD is just BORING (-;

Nathan and Luscious ARE THE SAME PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!. Nathan played one too many games with the forum and it's members(She still is) and because of that, she was tagged with some restrictions, but she couldn't follow restrictions imposed on her.

Edit to add: People do have things they do outside the forum that keep them entertained and busy enough so they are not too concerned what topics are being discussed. This is just a fun little thing to do whenever your not involved with other things.

Yup and yup. Over moderation killed
this place. All the interesting people
have been nuked. Happens on every
forum, it killed Gamblers Glen in just
a few months. It's taking longer here
but it will happen.

Vegas is so boring I doubt I'll ever
go there again. Why bother.

And all the non moderated gambling forums are blowing up?

From what I can tell when it comes to gambling forums nowadays you need good information to get them to the site, but then you need lots of drama and BS to keep people coming back. Even if its absolute garbage and non sence.

Most gambling topics are all but talked out.

I would vote for watching online videos of other people playing video games...

But seriously, do you collect anything Gordo? If so, you may find a shared community here too, just like the COTD thread participants... and Axel. Doc does a great job keeping everyone in line.

Axel, I agree with most of what you say.

I don't play fantasy sports, but would love to read about it and learn. I do play tournament poker, and I do indeed follow the established poker forum. And I'm not on Twitter, I guess I should be.

In terms of new casinos and new gaming business events, I think you would agree that the recent nationalization of U.S. sports betting, the proliferation of North American and Asian casinos, etc. is all happening outside of Vegas. I wish the section of the WOV site that lists/catalogues the casinos outside of Vegas (and the table games they have, etc.) was brought and kept up to date.

Forum moderation is essential, but over-moderation has been an issue and has depopulated the forum. Period. Personally, I couldn't care less if Luscious is Nathan and/or Kentry. As long as interesting content is generated by Luscious, it helps the forum. I couldn't care less if formerly-banned members return to the WOV forum as well-behaving posters under a different name. What is hurt by that other than the ego of authoritative overseers in the forum? Too many people who have interesting things to say have been banned because they had a bad day (or a bad year, or lol ZenKing who appears to have had a bad life) and flipped out and broke the rules. Gamblers are often volatile brilliant people with social imperfections and at risk of tripping over the etiquette rules occasionally, but those are the people this forum needs. I want a large community of diverse people with diverse views -I'll ignore the threads and posts that I don't like and will be richer for the stuff I do like. We should be more tolerant of cussing including the occasional f*** word (If it is used as an adjective for emphasis and not as directed abuse), do far more warning and far less suspending. Yes, keep banning people who are marketing their nonsense, but the forum moderators need to learn tolerance: tolerance of fools, tolerance of long-time posters having a bad day, and tolerance of forum members who have different interests, viewpoints and chatting styles.

The forum threads need to have a new hierarchal structure and be reorganized - too many thread categories are effectively defunct. And Honestly, its hard to find the subjects that I am interested in. And Donald Trump and Red vs Blue need to be in in a clearly labeled area.

I don't pretend that I have many of the solutions to the problems. I think the first step is usually to identify what the problems are -and heck, we're all good at bitching and moaning so as a group we should be able to do that, right?

Bingo. The swollen egos of mods is
what ruins every forum. It becomes
a personal battle between them and
all the interesting edgy contributors,
and the mods always win and the
forum always loses. Mods will read
this and be wringing their hands
waiting for me to screw up so I
can be suspended. Who cares, getting
suspended from here is like a snow
day in grade school. You look out
the window and say, hey, thanks.

Michael tried this forum with very loose regulation and didn’t like the result. I guess you could say he’s been there and done that.

Of course the direction of the forum I assume is up to the current owners.

Yes, I do collect. Formerly comic books and now too many things for my own good. I absolutely have no problem with the COTD thread; I was unfair in my remarks about COTD because I was trying to make my point about the state of the forum in entertaining and humorous ways. My bad.

I will third that one. Was fun the first time I went. Actually the second was better than the first. But after that? Now that I can legally sports bet there is nothing special as I do not care about shows. There is now a charge for parking at more and more places. Metered comp drinks. Crowds-crowds-crowds. Just too big for its own good. Lucky for me I have never had to set foot in the airport, I cannot imagine the crowds and lines there. The strip is a parking lot half the time. If you want a buffet for dinner, line up at lunch. You wait for your room, when it should be waiting for you.

No problem. I think a comic book collecting thread could find traction with this crowd. Back in the 80's I mocked my cousin for paying 3x face value for a first edition TMNT (it doesn't even have color...) I think it's worth somewhere in the low four figures today...
