So let me get this straight. I come back EXACTLY at the time a major convention thing is going on and now I have no where to sleep. For those who didnt know already. Im cursed and now this was the final nail in the coffin. I literally have the worst timing out of anyone on this planet. Its actually unbelievable.
But, that does suck for you.
Two more- Personal Responsibility.
Nerd Fest is here, you should be blending in with them and banging tables.
Quote: RSYou went back to Vegas without booking a place to stay?
The places i was calling wouldnt let me reserve and told me to call back on the 10th and one even said that I should be fine because its been slow all week. Turns out that was a huge lie. Not sure what im gonna do now. My last apartment said they will try to squeeze me in somehow in a week or so.
Quote: PokerGrinderThis has to be one of the more ridiculous statements that you have made. How are you cursed? You were unprepared and didn't check what conventions were in town? That sounds more like stupidity than a curse. Every time I go to Vegas I check what conventions or events are going to be there as that affects hotels and taxis. I also prefer when the city is busier cause it makes for better games. Come bud you just need to use some common sense. Check what is going on in the city. GL I hope you can find a place. You might consider driving out of Vegas for a week to avoid CES.
Yea i guess it's a mixture of it being my fault and also not. I mean to come here on the exact days its going on and at the same time i decided to leave my apartment, thats once again pretty unlucky. Why didnt the convention happen the first time arounf when i left to the east coast in september when i still had the apartment. Whatever, i guess its a good lesson for me though, because i never really thought about this possible scenario happening as im still new to this city in many ways.
By the way, if anyone has a couch for a day or 2 let me know LOL. Ill give you 20 a day for the couch, which seems reasonable.
Personally I wouldn't mind.Quote: ZenKinGYea i guess it's a mixture of it being my fault and also not. But, I just check my couch and it was made in China.
I find it hard to believe all weekly places are full up.

Why would any of us want to bring a curse into our homes?

Call them and see for yourself. I cant believe every single siegel suites and no lease extended stay place is 'all booked up'. Now im back to sleeping in my car. Havent even slept a proper night for the past week either. When to go see my beother in florida because he got surgery and had to sleep on the couch in his house.
Anyone have a motel recommendation off strip at cheap prices? This CES crap is unreal. All motels even skyrocketed their prices. I obviously have the money to pay for them, but im just naturally cheap and refuse to pay premium prices for no reason.
I think i might have to go sleep in a casino sportsbook

Indeed; so sleep in it.

$ 33 / Nt at the Edgewater in Laughlin for Tonight and Friday

Laughlin is fun but, other than gambling, the main thing is hanging out at the river. Not the right time of year for that.
I'd rent my couch to ZK, but it's already crowded with my mother in law here. Plus, it's too small to sleep on.

What I’m saying is this exact convention comes into Vegas on the same days every year lol. It’s the biggest convention of the year if I’m not mistaken. Just be smart and no matter where you are going check this kind of stuff out. It’s like I was planning on going to South Korea not India and then I realized that the winter Olympics are in South Korea in February so I changed my plans. Just have to do a little research.
Hotel rooms used to be ten dollars when I first started to hit Vegas, but you never arrived in town without some sort of reservation. I learned that on trip number one.

For us under 65 year olds, no, Laughlin is not "fun".

For tonight through Saturday with no TR number, guy off the street. Yes it’s more than you probably want to pay but obviously rooms available.
Pretty sure CES is like a static event, along with tons of other yearly events in vegas (rodeo for example) that always happen, same dates, and drives prices through the roof. This is a great example of you saying you're cursed when in fact YOU did not do the research you should have done because you thought it would all just magically work itself out. I'm not one to get down on you for being spoiled or crap, but dude, this seriously is you thinking the world will just work for you... this is a taste of the real world for you, enjoy it. You have to be on top of your sh*t and always thinking ahead. This event was public. You failed to do so.Quote: ZenKinGSo i leave for the holidays and check out of my aparyment(no lease), because i didnt feel like paying 3 weeks worth of rent. I now come back and the whole city is booked. Theres not one place that has a room available. Turns out theres the CES thing going on at the convention center. Even mktels have raised their prices over 200%.

Im cursed and now this was the final nail in the coffin. I literally have the worst timing out of anyone on this planet. Its actually unbelievable.
Also, I don't see how you couldn't go off-strip, even 30 min or an hour somewhere, and just give some action and get a room or something... or just find something cheap 30 min out and continue working. Isn't ideal, but it's a bed and roof...
Next, a tip: If you're going to check in some place, play all night, then check in early at like 9am, then sleep for like 4-5 hours till 12-1 and start your day like normal, coming back to pass out again in the room later that night. Basically you get 2 nights out of a 1 night room. Price = Price / 2;
Look at it like this. If you sleep 8 hours per night and live to sixty, you have slept 20 years. If you sleep 6 hours per night, you have only slept 15 years. That's 5 years of your life, wasted.
You sound just like my brother. No matter what happens to me, it is always worse on him. I recommended he join here, and I'm not sure you are not him? Mom liked me best, for a reason.
Hope this helps
So is any casino/hotel's price calendar.
*** Look at hotel prices for the next few months. ***
Busy days might be good for AP gamblers (or NOT, if those conventions have mostly non-gamblers).
A month ago, I made a $950 reservation for CES week (normally $42-44/night weekdays after resort fee, $300+ depending on weekend prices). It was already triple the normal rate. Normally would have booked 6-12 months in advance for a better rate, but I had no idea that I'd be in Vegas for CES.
I later switched that for a $259 weekly ($308 after taxes) - two-room suite in a 1.5* motel - recommended by a fellow AP who lives in Vegas as being much cleaner than most (but I looked at the room in person, to be safe).
Note: I usually use Trivago, but this weekly didn't show up in Trivago's searches.
Check (1) craigslist (2) Airbnb (3) regular apartment/house monthly rentals (4) hotelquickly priceline hotwire (white-label sites)
Most airbnb renters know they can charge WAY more during CES, but some don't.
*** I always check & write down no-penalty CANCELLATION deadlines. Hotelquickly is 6 days. Most hotels are 24-48-72 hrs, but may be 1-2 weeks for special holidays. The best cancellation options are 8 pm same-day. ***
Note: If you use Orbitz, do NOT use your Orbitz dollars on a reservation you are highly likely to cancel. The Orbitz dollars do NOT reappear after a "free" cancellation. Save Orbitz dollars for reservations you are 100% going to use.
For NYE (New Year's Eve), I sometimes book a Harrahs comp room one year in advance (since my ADT is not high enough to get anything I want) - sometimes I have to pay for 1-2 days out of a 3-5 day NYE stay. This year, I had a room offer elsewhere & made my NYE reservation two months earlier (as soon as I received the offer via e-mail).
----
P.S. ZenKing is NOT the only AP who does this kind of stuff.
I got a frantic text from an AP last weekend 4 am, who just realized he needed to book rooms during CES.
He had been trying to find rooms unsuccessfully for a few days. ...yes he did get a room.
I ALSO made a big mistake by not purchasing the CES pass before Dec 21 ($100). It's now $300.
ZenKing does stuff that I think most of us have done in the past ... and still do.
While I'm not saying 8 hours of viagra filled sexual exploits couldn't be a life long memory... I think your analogy is flawed to the law of diminishing returns. Your body needs sleep to stay healthy and functional. If you only slept 4 hours per night you'd get another 5 years of life, but you'd also lose a lot more of your life being sick, and having a brain that's not running at full capacity. Would you rather have 5 more years and a crappier life (even getting sick as your immune system would suffer from lack of rest), or 5 less years of quality functional life? To that point when you are sick your body will shut you down after a certain point and force you to sleep for longer than 6 hours...Quote: petroglyph...Look at it like this. Another way to say this is... well then why not sleep 0 hours per night and get ALL OF YOUR YEARS OF LIFE back?!?! ...because you would literally die. I take that as the "long run simulation" that proves sleep. Your body needs it, and quality sleep to boot.
Just having fun here, so don't go getting all serious on me.Quote: RomesWhile I'm not saying 8 hours of viagra filled sexual exploits couldn't be a life long memory... How about taking it to the other extreme? Sleep 12 hours per day and see if you live to 120, or sleep 16 hours per day, 2/3 of your life, stay in bed flaccid, and don't even get up at night to take a pooh ? Just crap the bed and kick your turds out on the floor, and see if to you can live to 140?
How about sleep 24 hours per day, and live to 160? You would be like KOBI beef only, tender soylent green?
Youth is wasted on the young. : )
Quote: billryanThe most driven person I've ever met, one of my fraternity Brothers made it a point to sleep 4 hours a night. Did it ,at least, from college on and ended up retiring a Two Star General. Most people need much more than that, but I think you can train your body to do so. Pat used to sleep in the Lotus position in college and was surprised that he wasn't allowed to do so at ROTC Advanced Camp.
There was an episode of GWAE podcast where Richard was saying he stayed with James Grosjean on a trip, and the guy never slept for more than a few hours at a time. Apparently he was completely immersed in his laptop all night, doing what I am not sure......
