Exactly Bob ... everyone acts like the gun is an object that has "feelings" and the ability to reason with it's self . Let's pretend it was the gun that did the damage ... NOT the human behind it ( insert sarcasm font) .
Why does it matter if the gun was procured legally ? Anyone with a third grade education can get a gun illegally and the end result would still be what we have right now .... a BUNCH of dead people .
Why are the folks who already knew ( the father and estranged mother) not the focus here ? They plainly knew he was mentally disturbed !! Therein lies the real issue . Go back and look at all the mass shootings in the last 20 ( ish) years and you will find someone who KNEW the shooter was a nut job and just sat back and did NOTHING . But it's easier to attack the " gun" as the guilty party .... Bleeding liberals , smh

I honestly don't know who needs an assault rifle or why you should legally be able to buy one.
Why and how the gunman did what he did are not only questions of great curiosity, but they also just might help (even somewhat) in thwarting the almost guaranteed future attacks.Quote: AxelWolfPeople should never talk about the shooters or even mention their names (shooter xxxxx will do) Focus on the victims and their families.

Whether banned or not from buying guns, an individual under two separate previous terror investigations who buys 2 guns, should have his name at least pop up on their radar again as soon as he purchased them by some mechanism.

Me, for one. Alas, I and 99.975% of the population are mostly stuck with regular old rifles that people mistakenly call "assault rifles".

I can name a few why's, but that's an easy game. Perhaps someone can try to name reasons you shouldn't be able to.

Some have talked about these investigations being dropped but I still don't see why the name was not flagged. That sounds like a hole in the system which needs to be checked out.
talking about it, that's fine, But I say don't use their names over and over and over again. Don't make people famous/notorious. Were they 'terror' investigations or assault against his wife and another incident that wasn't associated with a terrorist act? He was looked at years ago for something else I believe. So far everything is just bullshit on the internet and news agencies trying to scoop each other. 'We' won't know the real truth for some time.

I wasn't concise enough, anyone who looks 'foreign' and in this case he clearly is of middle eastern/Europe descent. His images will be enough for anyone to go off on the terrorist angle.
Wasn't a few of the pilots of 9-11 American citizens in our country almost 10 years?
No one knows this guys story yet. And that was my point.

None of the 9-11 hijackers were American. The first arrived 21 months before the attack.

I've been a member on this site for a long time. I'm on here almost every day but mostly just read the discussions. Lately I feel people are getting suspended for personal insults that at worst I would say are pretty mild. Hey slick was suspended for a week for telling Ams288 to go away. Ams288 told hey slick to go away first but got no suspension. Why the favoritism? And I feel like a third grader writing about my classmates getting suspended for saying go away.

7 days is automatic when you know the full context relative to ams288. Hint: If he would have said, "You're the one who should 'go away'!", and stopped there, no suspension. I'm being a bit vague here, but I dunno it's my business to clearly explain why heyslick clearly should have been suspended knowing the things that BBB and I know. But I guarantee you, there is no favoritism in this case.
Quote: FleaStiffRamadan, a month of daytime fasting and reflection, began recently and in Nice a Moslem man slapped a waitress for serving alcohol on the first morning of Ramadan. Now while it was reported as a slap it knocked her off her feet and dazed her so I assume it was more of a punch. The waitress was Moslem who served alcohol in both Tunisia and France during Ramadan without any previous trouble. So in Nice, strife torn by football fans, there is now a warrant out for the local hooligan already known to the police as an unemployed thug.
What does this have to do with Orlando? Well, I'm not really sure but assault rifles, hostages, battering rams, swat teams, kevlar ... it sure does seem different levels of violence.
Well if we have Muslims slapping waitresses for serving alcohol legally at their job in a "first world country", that's another significant issue. What's sad is it sounds like he wasn't arrested on the spot. But I would hope people would have enough morals to not execute someone over booze served that you think (and the law disagrees with your opinion) should not be served. And I would hope that people that disagree with homosexuality would have enough morals to not execute them as well. Unfortunately for the victims, a dude burning in hell tonight from Florida, did not have the morals for the latter. But I do think if we wouldn't have let him buy an assault rifle, we could have saved dozens of innocent people by him simply not being able to kill nearly as fast.

I'm fine with that. I think that there should be very few tax exempt organizations and support for a particular party or candidate by an organization should also make them taxable entities. Non-profit/non-political/non-religious is fine with me.
However, I have a strong dislike for deflecting the issue from the type of people who actually killed people, in this case people that are likely to be gay, to others. A Radical Islamic Terrorist, not a gun or a religion, committed this slaughter.
Isn't that like Republican's main goal? To get her and Obama to say that?
Is the terrorism issue solved now? They always pretend like Obama not saying that is a huge issue.

I think saying it out loud is important for a leader when talking about "who" we are fighting. We aren't fighting Muslims, we are fighting Radical Islamic Terrorists hiding behind, and perverting, a religion. Saying it clearly tells everyone you recognize the issue.
Just because you may not feel that way does not mean that it is somehow not important overall. It isn't the "most important" but it is important. Now we need to know how she will fight them. The answer should be even harder that we are now.

After Newtown, conservatives shrugged their shoulders
How is this different from Newtown or the Colorado theater shootings
We live in a country where crazy people can get their hands on weapons of mass killing
Its going to happen again.

I think it gets old thst people blame religion or their ethnicity. Sure that is the case sometimes, but in others it is just a crazy person going insane.

He IS different. His ACTIONS may have been the same as those of others but he is part of an organized effort to kill all of us and/or change our way of life...gay, straight, man, woman...ALL OF US. If you don't get that, which I think you do, I feel sorry for you.
Conservatives did not shrug their shoulders after any massacre; they just didn't support the gun control that you support. There is a huge difference.
I do support keeping crazy people from having guns, just as I support figuring out why, after all of the reports about this particular person being "nuts", he was so easily allowed to but weapons.
Crazy people shouldn't have weapons.
Crazy people following a radical perversion of a religion are even more dangerous.
Adam Lanza, James Holmes and others did not pledge allegiance to ISIS and did not make trips to Saudi Arabia. And they did not pass extra levels of background checks in order to be licensed to carry extra firearms and be employed as security forces, including in federal buildings. And they were not praying for the elimination of homosexuals.Quote: terapinedThe guy was a US citizen born in the USA

I blame the shooter. He did it. He was following, or part of, a group of Radical Islamic Terrorists that seek to destroy our way of life. They consider this a successful mission and will undertake more of them. The difference between this and the lone wolf freak (which we should also try to stop from having guns) is that it is part of an organized effort. We can't ignore the enemy. The lone wolf only dies once. The enemy has more soldiers that it is willing to send to their deaths to kill us.
Again, no guns for nuts...

The violence against gays in this country is disgusting

They get assaulted in this country
Sometimes they get killed in this country

Certainly not the tiny population of Muslims in this country

Same reason straight people do, I guess? Or blacks? Or Mexicans? Or any other group of people that wants their business to cater to a certain demographic? It's called free-market capitalism. Isn't that something that the far-right supposedly cherishes? Besides, there's nothing stopping straight people from going into gay bars. I've done it before. They're usually a lot of fun.
