Can the Pope change Catholic Church doctrine?
Can the LDS president change church doctrine?

Here's the best part of the article:
Quote: Cracker Barrel (from the Daily Mail)Yesterday it was revealed one company, Cracker Barrel had dropped the Louisiana family. But after threats of a boycott they almost immediately reversed their decision, releasing a statement, saying:
‘You told us we made a mistake. And, you weren’t shy about it. You wrote, you called and you took to social media to express your thoughts and feelings. You flat out told us we were wrong. Today, we are putting all our Duck Dynasty products back in our stores. And, we apologize for offending you.’
Love it!!!! Props to Cracker Barrel for apologizing for their mistake!

Personal insult -- three-day suspension.
"Celebrities who had a bad 2013"
"Phil Robertson from "Duck Dynasty" frame has probably seen better years. 2013 started off awesome for Robertson and his family when their A&E show skyrocketed in popularity. Then it came to a screeching halt in December. Robertson was suspended from the show after making anti-gay and civil rights remarks to GQ magazine."

It is amazing how the media spins things. This is an article from a Houston newspaper stating that Phil Robertson had a good year but that things went well but came to a "screeching halt" in December due to the article. Wow!! Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it is obvious that nothing came to a "screeching halt" at all--the show may well end up moving but the money is still flowing in.
Their spin is how THEY feel his year went; it is not based in reality. Do they even pay attention to these things or do they just make it up as they go?
(The word in the article is "frame"; it should be "fame"...the date is also wrong on the article. Very good work on their part!!)
My favorite is when the media labels someone as "anti-gay". Then when you read the story, you find that the person simply believes in traditional marriage. That's it!
It's unbelievable how such a simple, straightforward belief gets defined as "anti-gay" by the media.
was fired was half the people who work
at A&E are Gay. They can't stand the
fact they work to keep a 'bigot' on the air.
This is from a guy who's knows them and
talked to them about it. I suspect Disney
will follow the money in the end.
A&E may have given “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson the heave-ho when they suspended him from future episodes of the show last week, but the network is still welcoming him home for holidays.

They "suspended" him but they do not have the character of their supposed conviction to GLAAD to actually pull the program. If they were so offended by his statement, they could have made changes to their programming and taken the hit on revenues but they didn't...

That has to be one of the most senseless comics have ever seen...can't you find anything better to make fun of the situation?
BTW, in case you missed it, most here made the case for him having the right to say what he wanted and for A&E having the right to can him...A&E just doesn't really WANT to can him because he makes them too much money, but they had to say something to satisfy GLAAD.

I don't get it. It doesn't make sense.

Its to poke fun at all those claiming A&E pulling duck dynasty is a first amendment issue when its clearly not. I don't see whats not to get.
Quote: EvenBobIt's not funny, it's dumb. Or something.
Thats your opinion I found it vaguely humorous. You said you didn't get it so I just explained it.

Shocker.

Jesse has only one cause. Jesse Jackson.
If I were the Duck clan leader, I'd have each and every one of them do an interview and say the exact same things as the Daddy Phil said. Then we'll see how fast A&E is to axe the #1 show on cable tele.
Was this a cheap PR ploy by A&E? Did they ever have any real intention of keeping a star off the show?
Quote: RonCSo...it has now been announced that Phil is back on the show. It is doubtful he missed any filming.

This reminds me of when MLB used to 'suspend' a starting pitcher for 4 games.......

Probably just did a knee jerk reaction before a proper cost benefit analyze could be performed. It is entirely possible they found out that a large chunk of the audience might not care about gay rights. All decisions by networks are based on cost benefit analyzes. They knew that comments like this on other shows have caused problems but differing audiences respond to things differently.
Quote: tournamentking. Sense and truth always win out in the end. Plus money trumps everything else. Go Phil!!
What sense and truth? The fact is this was purely a monetary decision based on audience of the show. Had a Glee star said these things he probably would have been canned and stayed canned. Does that mean a different sense and truth exist for Glee? No the simple fact is a cost benefit analyze was made and A&E found that keeping him was the better decision. This was not some great victory for the first amendment it was simply a station making the best money decision because your right money trumps everything. I don't fault A&E for their decision but lets not pretend it was anything more than it was.
to go pound sand. What a charlatan he is.
Thanks to everyone for you're unimportant opinions.I enjoyed them all.
I was entertained for the past 30 minutes.
Some of you have some issues I see with religion, among other things.
This post should not have been here, isn't this the reason Diversity Tomorrow was created?
This post is like reading a script with a crackhead,it is going in all directions.
I liked it when the talk got heated and then Wizard warned for profanity and suspended someone else for 3 days.I could picture him pointing to a large tree outside and stating to the offender go pick out a switch to get spanked with.
Thanks,KB1

DT has about 7 regular posters, why don't you
post all your threads there.
"Phil Robertson should look African American and gay people in the eyes and hear about the hurtful impact of praising Jim Crow laws and comparing gay people to terrorists."
Guess GLAAD's not happy. LOL!
BTW, when did GLAAD start caring about blacks? Their membership is whiter than the Tea Party. And why did GLAAD remain silent over KKK guys in the Democrat Party (e.g., Robert Byrd), yet they went on and on and on and on about a guy on a TV show? SMH
What an epic fail for all the anti-DD yahoos.

What victory for liberty. This was never a liberty issue. In terms of A&E this always was and remains an issue of profit. In no ways were Robertson's rights being infringed.
Quote: Twirdmanthis always was...an issue of profit.

Quote: EvenBobProfit? It's about liberty and the first amendment.

How is it about the first amendment. A&E took him off the air not the government. A&E put him back on air not the government. There was never any government involvement so no first amendment issue was at stake.

Don't get what? How was this not a profit issue for A&E. Or how do you believe it is a first amendment issue? You admit there was zero government involvement right.

Are you ever going to answer though how A&E weren't profit motivated. Or how this is in anyway a first amendment issue.
Quote: TwirdmanAre you ever going to answer though how A&E weren't profit motivated. Or how this is in anyway a first amendment issue.
A&E thought they would get great press from suspending him because GLAAD convinced them that they would take away all the money (advertisers). A&E found out that a lot less people supported GLAAD's position than GLAAD told them supported it.
A&E was profit motivated.
GLAAD did want to stifle speech they did not believe in, of course. Phil stated his beliefs and they wanted to shut him down. He did not speak out of hate or contempt, he simply stated things he believes are sin that will keep people out of heaven. He also mentioned how to get there in spite of sin.
My position remains unchanged--Phil had every right to say what he said; A &E had every right to fire him. They just wouldn't have done anything without GLAAD trying to bully them and they did not stand up for what they did when it came down to the possibility of losing the show.
America won.
