I'd like to think that at this stage of the game, most people see through certain headlines relative to what's going on in the big picture. Unless you start to create jobs at a level of 200 to 300k per month, a recovery as we've traditionally had will never materialize and the risk for a return to recession will always be knocking at the door. Certainly many people feel that the current job growth is acceptable for this reason or that reason- and they're willing to accept this as the "new normal"- and maybe it is considering the hole the country has put itself in. Any maybe it would be acceptable if we weren't doing QE(n) and taking on over a trillion in debt a year. But those items sustainable and I'm just afraid when the music is going to stop...

I was reading an article before I went to bed Thursday
about how the same economists who do this every month,
month after month, year after year, were crunching the data
and predicticting the rate to go UP by one point on Friday.
They are uncannily accurate, its their job. But this time they
got it wrong by FOUR POINTS? Sure they did.. LOL!

I'd give a bunch of money to see someone like Ted Koppel have to substitute for Wolf when Romney shows up. Hell, even Andy Richter would be better.

I feel that most of the people that voted for him the first time simply voted based on their emotions, rather than on the facts. I suspect that very few of them took the time to actually check the stats to see whether or not he was qualified for the job.
In hindsight, I believe that many people believe that even Sara Palin was more qualified for the job.
James Buchanan (15th president) had over 34 years of public service before running for president. Similarly Joe Biden had 36 years of service in the Senate. Would you say the "stats" made them qualified for the job?

I watched this debate, which is not something I usually do. It's not something I EVER do (like, since '92, when I was 12), but I did it this time because my mother was with me and that's what she wanted to do. Watching the debate, it's clear that Romney creamed Obama. I still don't think it was a KO - Obama had enough wind left to fight back pretty well in the last 30 minutes - but it was a clear victory for Romney.
Reading the debate (which is what I usually do) is a different story. If you just read the transcript, it's much less clear that Obama was flat and out of sorts. It sort of comes across that he was a little dry, but from the reading you do see that Romney re-told several of the GOP's more popular half-truths while Obama avoided almost all of the left's preferred lies. I could see how if I hadn't seen the debate and if I'd just done' a cold-read of the transcript, I could probably be lead to believe that Obama had been a mild winner. Of course, from reading it also appears that Madison was an impressive orator and imposing figure and that Lincoln had a commanding presence and booming voice...

Board meetings, stock holder reports, debates.
He has an answer for everything. Unlike Obama,
who has an answer for almost nothing. To Obama,
just showing up should be enough, don't bother

Maybe you should send little postcards to those 110,000 people letting them know that their jobs are meaningless. I wonder how many of them agree with you.
As for the "accounting tricks" BS - the surveys are carried out by civil servants using a decades old methodology. Almost all of the people involved also ran the surveys during the Bush administration. Why would this survey be the one that they chose to doctor? Couldn't they have tanked the surveys in 2004 to help Kerry or in 2010 to stymie the Tea Party?
Romney is portrayed in the ads. I only watch History,
Discovery, A&E, and the Food channel. And O'Reilly
is the only Fox show I can tolerate. I haven't seen
a single political ad this year.

Really? I watch USA and TNT all the time, and there are political ads during the commercials there. How do cable operators decide which channels they sell ads on? it seems kind of crappy that ad buys on cable can be channel specific when I have to pay for 105 channels just to get USA, TNT, and ESPN.

Cable ads can be specific to just one house if they want. So the swing district could get a Romney ad and everyone else a ginsu knife ad.

I was happy to see this: in our politicized world, at least the people running Sesame Street had the good sense to not pick a side, realizing parents of all political persuasions have children who watch their shows. As opposed to Henson/The Muppets, they made the wise choice, in my opinion.

I will say one thing about Krauthammer, he is right more often than William Kristol (which just about bumps him up to Broken clock status, but not quite). Might be the only time anyone's ever said this, but I'd prefer the ginsu knife ad. Hell, Sarah Mclachlan could show me abused animals for 17 minutes/hour and I'd be happier than I am now.
