For people that haven't been there in a while:
(1) The Chinese Buffet is now closed
(2) The coffee shop has been extensively renovated, it is now longer called Kitty's, but now it is the Cortez Cafe. It looks very beautiful now. They also offer some Chinese menu choices.
(3) Roberta's has been renamed "The Flame", but it is not clear if anything other than the name changed. I think that the new owner wanted to update the names. In any case the restaurant is an excellent value for people who want a nice meal without paying a lot of money.

The Flame Steakhouse is good, especially with the American Casino Guide coupon, Sun thru Thurs discount coupon.

The coffee shop/restaurant wasn't bad either, especially when you consider what a meal like this would cost you on the Strip.

Drink Service at the bars were excellent. The Bartenders were fast, attentive, and comped you if you were playing a machine at the bar.

We like Video Poker, and we are comped drinks while we are playing. We like that!

They will actually bring you food as you are playing, for all us VP junkies that's a good thing. But, what do you do when you want to go to the bathroom? Well, that depends.

Anyway, the food at both establishments is more than acceptable and an added plus is it's a good bargain.

;)

I had a lousy experience at the Flame last night. El Cortez gave me a $50 dining certificate in my monthly mailer. The crab cake appetizer was decent, but my steak was lousy. The server recommended the porter house. It had a lot of fat on it I had to trim as well as a thick tendon running through the steak. The quality of the steak was at best something I could have gotten from the grocery store and was hardly seasoned. Oh well, at least it was almost free. (total check $80-$50 certificate - $6 in comp I had on my EC card).

Porterhouse is a kind of T-bone. It can contain too much fat, but no cut served at a restaurant should have a tendon. If htis ever happens to you again, I recommend sending it back.
