According to this NY Times Article late last year, about Cantor Gaming's entry into the L.V. market, mobile gaming devices are now in use:

Quote: NY Times

The devices, one the size of a mobile phone and the other the size of an iPad, offer a number of games, including sports betting, roulette and slot machines. They can be used only in casinos in which they are registered, and a number of casinos offer them, including the M, the Palazzo and the Venetian.

Has anyone used them? If so, what are your impressions? Do you think they are the future of gaming in Nevada?

They have expanded the law to permit "sports betting" only anywhere in the state of Nevada using an app for blackberry or similar devices. The app must be able to read GPS off the device so that you are inside the borders of the state.

As for the Cantor devices which are custom devices, I don't think they are the future of gaming. It's my impression most people use them for sports betting only, and prefer to play other games at a real slot machine, an electronic or real blackjack gaming.

However, I think that the state will shortly allow all games to be played on iPad's and other commercial devices anywhere in the state. I think that most of the growth from this point on will be in these devices instead of brick and mortar casinos.

I personally believe that gaming revenue will take over a decade to reach the previous high of $13 billion in Nevada (12 months leading up to October 2008). I can't see risking large amounts of money on brick and mortar casinos except in strange places like Wendover.

I published a feature article on mobile gambling in Vegas in the March 2011 issue of Mobile Betting News. MBN reviews Las Vegas location-based services, loyalty programs, SMS services, and travel apps.

The Cantor eDeck includes casino games. Mobile gaming the fastest growing sector of online gambling. The top publicly-traded online casinos now project 4-50% of their business from mobile gambling.
