5 insulting posts in less than an hour, that has
to b a record. His name is Wrong Liar? Ok.....
If his IP matches a recently suspended member (and given by his responses, I'm thinking so), I move for the standard multiaccounter punishment. But of course, he was correct...again...sigh. But I would rather have a slightly less knowledgeable forum than to have a poster that must prove everyone wrong and give an insult for anyone who is incorrect nearly every time.

His IP address didn't match anyone else's IP address. That doesn't necessarily mean anything though.

Tim was wrong on a factual detail, and if it's the person I think it is, then that's enough to set them off into an insulting tirade. I'm 95%+ sure I have set this person off multiple times; I'd be shocked if it was a different person. The last time I did it to who I am thinking of, he/she got a 3 day suspension out of it, and it was within the past week. But they were reinstated by today.

Should we look forward to similarly clever insults in the coming days? maybe I could find some friends to register some interesting usernames? aKa_______?

First offense, but the length of the ban is based largely upon the severity of the insult, in this case.
Suspicion of trolling.Quote: MonkeyMonkeyMaybe it's too soon to expect the relevant threads to be updated, but I'm wondering why YesThereReal was banned. Now, certainly I could see the misspellings and other... uh, wackiness, but I didn't see a rule violation, at least not on the part of the banned (though I could have easily missed it), the behavior of some of the other members was to put it politely somewhat questionable.
Here's JB's post:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/info/announcements/14439-hi-im-here/5/#post253310
The forum rule on trolling reads:
Quote: Rule 12No bullying/trolling: Members are expected to act like ladies and gentlemen. Members may not be overly divisive or abusive to another member. This includes starting a thread only the for purpose of attacking another member. (Added 2/24/2012). This also includes threats against another member. (added 9/3/12)
So, piece by piece:
- Members are expected to act like ladies and gentlemen. I saw some ungentlemanly behavior but it wasn't exhibited by the banned member.
- Members may not be overly divisive or abusive to another member. Didn't see this from the banned either, though I think a case could be made for the reverse.
- This includes starting a thread only the for purpose of attacking another member. (Added 2/24/2012). Didn't notice this. I think the banned only started 2 threads, an intro (which should be allowed, IMO) and a rather whimsical thread about extinct reptiles.
- This also includes threats against another member. (added 9/3/12) Didn't see this either.
The "offenses" YesThereReal seem to be guilty of are: bad spelling, poor grammar, being a little (more than a little?) naive, posting a lot, but apparently not more than new members are allowed. There are several prolific posters here that meet this definition of trolling.
In summary, this member seemed to absorb a lot more "abuse" than she handed out. I understand that we're all here at the Wizard's pleasure, but I didn't think the site I signed up for booted people for the qualities YesThereReal exhibited.

I think it falls under the "definition of pornography" guide of know-it-when-you-see-it.

Quote: JBThe rule I invoked was #13. I don't believe for one second that "YesThereReal" was as dumb as he/she was pretending to be.
I was confused because the original stated reason was trolling and the behavior didn't seem to match.

What was the final test?
Quote: AZDuffmanI think it falls under the "definition of pornography" guide of know-it-when-you-see-it.
That's where my confusion comes from. I've seen worse examples of all YesThereReal's behaviors and we continue to tolerate them even now. But I'm prepared to let it go, I've just never seen a banning go down quite like this.
Quote: tuppWasn't able to press my final test, but I'm pretty sure that YesThereReal is a cleverbot.
I agree, it was a robot troll. The spelling was deliberate for sure.
It got too many hard to spell words correct, and easy words
wrong.

Not all trolls are necessarily bullies.

The question(s) about the website.
Never got a straight answer that showed the ability to comprehend the other site nor how it related to the question. YesThereReal was disabled just before I posted the most direct question.
Quote: rxwineThen again, perhaps they are getting that good.
Yes, they are getting that good. At first, I thought that YesThereReal was just some kid. Its initial posts were similar to some of the (nearly unintelligible) tweets that I've seen my niece and nephew write. But tupp's post pretty much convinced me otherwise. Cleverbot, all the way!

Quote: rxwineI haven't gone through the posts, but some of the ones I saw seemed to be referring further in the past to previous posts, which suggested a human behind it, rather than a program. At least I haven't seen a bot talk about itself in past tense with much convincing effect.
As a programmer I'm no genius, it was something I toyed with very seriously for a time, but ultimately found I had other interests that were more compelling to me. That said, if that was a bot I would love to see the code.

Probably should have gone to it straight away, some people have their text size controlled locally for whatever reason. She also seemed to be hinting at having dyslexia, but that's a bit of a leap based on my own untwisting of the posts.

Actually, the question was embedded in the beginning within the test paragraph. Any non-troll with a normally set browser would have cleared themselves instantly, which is what I was hoping for.
When YesThereReal wouldn't (couldn't) answer about the big words (after I further enlarged them), it was clear that we were dealing with a bot, a troll or someone with strange browser settings. That's when I began to separately scrutinize about the other website(s).
Quote: tringlomaneTo add to the "stupid law" discussion: This is not really enforced. Basically sex toys (vibrators, etc.) just have a sticker saying "for novelty use only" and can be bought at adult "novelty stores" in Georgia; their selection was comparable to Missouri, which doesn't have a dumb law like this. Not shocked about Georgia having this rule, they just started allowing Sunday sales of alcohol in stores after I moved away. I guess if a cop caught you using a toy for sexual gain in your home, I guess it would be illegal.
Also if the "erection in public" law was generally enforced, we would then have too many 13-year olds in jail. Also, that's Indiana, no Sunday sales of alcohol in stores. Seeing a connection?
Quote: YesThereReali know they dont have that law in mo... :)
If that's a bot, I am definitely impressed. She probably was hoping I would private message her though...haha
on them. People who can't spell do so phonetically,
they always get the same words wrong. This bot was
all over the place with spelling.

What I don't get is why do bots misspell so often. When I see bots, they often have tons of misspellings. This one did too, but she sold the story of being dumb much better than most. Is decent spelling that hard for a programmer?

FWIW, she did seem to grasp the content of the linked site the first time around and made a joke in context. I dunno, I guess I'm just a little disturbed that someone, even a possibly naive someone, was summarily ejected on a suspicion.
But whatever, back to business as usual.

Leet speak makes you think the person is dumber, so you don't notice their inability to hold the conversation as long. Another form of social engineering/hacking.
I would at least be consistent with the spelling bad though... I suspect a human troll rather than a computer one.

Funny, I think it is naïve to think that YesThereReal was naïve.

Perhaps. Or maybe I meet/know more people that aren't as swift on the uptake as you so it doesn't seem that farfetched. Being a table games dealer exposes you to levels of "Oh my God I can't believe someone doesn't know that," that I previously wouldn't have believed.

You should see some of my niece's and nephew's tweets. Their misspellings are similar (and just as random). That's why I initially thought YesThereReal was just some punk kid.

I find it funny how defensive you are over their suspension, and even funnier how the IP addresses associated with your account are coming from the same city/area as the IP addresses associated with YesThereReal's account.
Was "YesThereReal" by any chance the product of your own Cleverbot script?
By the way, I knew that was either a troller or bot within the first few posts.

Yes, why the offended protest. I don't remember
Monkey standing up for any other banned members.

I have dealt with 2 national companies and the people I spoke with on the phone had such broken English, I thought there is no rational explanation for it besides it being a computer program I spoke with. The idea being people would be less suspecting it was a computer if the English was bad. It just didn't make much sense to me to hire people who could not be understood. I've heard there are voice synthesizers to change people's voice, so it's not impossible.

Perhaps that's because I was quietly behind the scenes helping them find the exit. Once again Bob you have no idea what you're talking about.

It never felt like a real person to me. The posts
were too off the wall and illogical. It was either
a 7 year old or a bot. Spelling says bot..

By my reading of the rules and as interpreted by the administration here in the past I find your post constitutes a personal insult. I have discussed the situation with Mike and he has refused to take any action public or private. Therefore, since I will not be bullied by you or anyone else, I believe my time here has come to an end. I can not stay where the hypocrisy is built into the system.
If any of you feel you have a need to contact me I can be reached at monkeymonkeybaccarat at gmail dot com.
Good day!
