Quote: GWAEShould we assume the newest banned member is who it is?
I knew right away. EvenBob knew as did others yet this new member still manages to start 2 threads and make 23 posts. Does that have any effect on the integrity of this forum?
When someone says they've been lurking for some time it's a dead giveaway. On the flip side, if a new member doesn't say they've been lurking and then begins commenting on older posts it's still a dead giveaway. While not impossible it is very difficult to change one's writing style.
This guy made some interesting posts and knew a lot about NYC. He wasn't rude or insulting and stayed within the rules. I wouldn't have posted the video with the girl but that's just me. At the risk of sounding sacrilegious did he have "value"?
He's not on the Suspension List yet so we'll have to wait for the official ruling. Maybe he'll comment on his banning when he returns. Oh, he's banned for life? How has that been working out? He has shown time and time again that he can join this forum anytime he pleases.
I've been noticing more and more that not every name that goes red makes it onto the Suspension List. At first it was just the ones that made only one post, now it's some who have made multiple posts. I probably wouldn't want them there either as it is just a reminder of how easy it is for banned members to not only rejoin but to make several posts before being dealt with.
There is no doubt in my mind that there are many new members just waiting to pounce and keep us entertained for a long time to come. I'm not condoning it, mind you, these are very bad boys. :-)

If you qualify your statement with new member who starts posting a lot, you are closer to being 100% correct, but thankfully it's less than that.
I knew it was a puppet-troll and I'm positive about a few other names that have yet to be expose, however BBB imposed a exposing gag order on me. You just can't make this stuff up. I'm pretty good at spotting fakers but I'll not say a word until their time is up. In the meantime I'll respond to them if something interests me and I will treat them like any other member in good standing. After all, that's exactly what they are until the hammer drops. Some of them are very creative and interesting and the names they come up with make me laugh.
If they ever decide to blog, well, never mind. I don't want to give anyone ideas.
I agree up to a point. I often find them amusing, but I think the best response may be to just ignore them. Also, I believe that some incarnations -- host4longtime, for example -- are detrimental to the forum in that they purport to bring valuable info to the forum, but it turns out to be just fiction.Quote: 1BBI'm pretty good at spotting fakers but I'll not say a word until their time is up. I dunno, it seems that Axel's hooligan radar has been pretty spot-on. At first, I thought he was harsh. Now I think that I'm just naive. Sometimes, I think we should just lend him the ban-hammer to play Whack-A-Troll at his discretion! :)

I can't disagree, Joeman. I've brought up my concerns for new members who may get short shrift because of the current climate here. It's just not fair and some potentially good members could be driven away. I don't feel that the burden of proof should be on them either. None of us had to jump through hoops to join and neither should anyone else. How is this dealt with on other forums?

Do not loan Axel the ban hammer, I'm still on his radar apparently ;-)

Axel really is a he. Isn't he? I know he talks about the girlfriend but in this day and age? ;-)

This isn't always the case. There are exceptions, though the puppet(s) in question do seem to heavily bias the scale heavily.

I don't recall what post you're talking about. Internet anonymity grants most people venue to act in ways they otherwise would refrain from. I recall issuing a ban to someone in my past profession. This individual refused to abide by the trespass issued, and constantly violated it. He was arrested numerous times before anything got through to him. People are prone to odd behaviour indeed.

Quote: DodsferdInternet anonymity grants most people venue to act in ways they otherwise would refrain from.
The problem with many forums is not free speech. It's free speech with anonymity. Too many people think they have the same rights as a voter to vote and keep their identity secret. The internet is similar to when people could call and make comments on a phone to a stranger and not worry about getting caught.
That's the definition free speech has taken, i.e. I can become a holy terror online and take no accountability because that's free speech. Yeah, and that's bullshit. See below.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/reign-of-terror-online-trolls-destroy-a-virginia-familys-offline-life/2015/07/20/a467f9bc-19ba-11e5-93b7-5eddc056ad8a_story.html
Before someone goes off and asks why we should all reveal our identities, that's not my point. People can conduct conversations anonymously until they spam or make continued personal attacks. Spam is littering. The other is generally unwelcome after a point, although most people can tolerate the occasional loss of decorum.

Seems to me that it's the most appropriate place to discuss such things. If you don't approve, you're more than welcome to block the thread.

You just follow the regular quoting process, and inject a second one within the first one, like so;
Quote: Second QuoteThis is a quoteQuote: First QuoteThis is a nested quote
I removed the opening brackets to show the proper way.
q=Second Quote] q=First Quote] This is a nested quote /q] This is a quote /q]

Thanks for being on top of it my friend, Stuff like this will never happen when you buy the forum! Do you need help with financing and did the price go up with all the changes? Sorry for all the questions and I know deals takes time, but this dragging out longer than I expected.

One of our administrators has publicly said that a reminder would be welcomed when a suspended member's reinstatement has been temporarily forgotten. I waited an extra day before mentioning it because I figured everyone was busy working on the forum changes. I would think that someone like yourself, with several suspensions under his belt, would appreciate that.
The rest of your post is just bizarre. Your continued reference to me purchasing this sight is putting false ideas into peoples' heads and I've had to explain this to those who have contacted me. I feel that once again I must take time out to explain to my fellow forum members that I am NOT buying the forum, have never considered buying the forum and have not heard that the forum is for sale. The new owners are working hard to improve things here and insinuating that someone may be buying it or that it may be for sale could be detrimental to them.
I want to thank everyone for their support, suggestions and kind words. It's just the internet. These things happen and it's nothing to worry about, at least I hope not. I'm not ready to go the route of aceofspades just yet.

Accidentally flagged your post. That was a mis-click.
But you should do what I do -- some people post the se nonsense over and over again, for example, Boz talking about you buying the forum, rudeboy and his anarchy stuff, mustangsally and her misleading math....flag these posts. If everyone does it, it works as intended. If no one does it, nothing happens.

Thanks, RS. I can take a joke as well as the next guy. If someone feels that this will help them fill a void in their life, more power to them. The best way to deal with this type of thing is to not respond however when potentially harmful misinformation, real or implied, is disseminated we sometimes have no choice but to respond.
For example, say an advertiser is considering doing business here. Things look good until they peruse the forum and get the impression that the site may be for sale. Who would want to enter into a contract with a company that may be sold? The new owners are working hard to improve things here and don't need anyone throwing a monkey wrench into things.
I realize that there is a lot of residual resentment over the fact that this site was sold but that's life. It seems childish to direct that resentment toward the new owners. They couldn't have purchased anything if it wasn't for sale.
Do you back to a store or restaurant you don't like time after time and complain? To me it's the same thing. We all go out of business or change if our customers don't like us. It's been said many times to leave if you don't like how it's run here and wether it's directed to me, you or anyone it's the right answer. The other answer many business owners have is if you know how to do it better, buy it. Are you the guy who tells the casino someone left trash On the floor? Did you let Apple know the changes they need to make to the next IPhone so the stock price won't drop again? Because that's what it appears you are, someone just looking to help everyone. And if that's it's true, maybe it a good thing until it's made clear the advice is unwanted.
I have no idea if this site is making money based on online gaming clicks and maybe we are getting more people here with more posts and they love it. I don't know and really don't care.
I just believe the constant grief you give the mods is too much and if you don't like it, it's your opinion, worth the same as mine*
*unless you buy the site, then naturally it's worth more.
