Yes. I spent $5 before my trip and was able to redeem an extra award. Well worth $5. Before my next trip, if there are enough good rewards that I want, I might spend more money to up it to 6 rewards. Of course, the 2 cheapest rewards I buy would need to justify the cost, so it might not happen.
Most rewards are limited to 1 per person, but if a reward disappears and comes back, then it's a different batch of prizes and you'll be able to redeem it again. For things like room prizes, I've heard of many people who redeemed rewards from 2 accounts and combined the reservation so they didn't need to switch rooms.

I've been betting the farm and passing on insurance the first time then betting again and taking it. Made a $50K spin yesterday betting $1700. Pass on insurance the first time to get it the second seems to be best plan.

I always take insurance immediately unless I get a value that I expect to be higher than the net insurance payout on the first spin. (2/5ths of the max first spin value)
If the wheel is unweighted, then AZDuffman's strategy of skipping insurance on the 2nd spin is likely a better play by a small amount. However, I am not convinced the wheel is unweighted. I have never seen an unweighted wheel in any slot machine, so I don't expect this one to be any different.

My g/f and I have burned a good chunk of our points recently (and not so optimally) on a trip in May. Shows and hotel rooms are going up in price. I'm not shocked to be honest. It might have some sticking power, but I would be about 50/50 by the end of 2014. I also plan to give MGM a little more play this trip vs. CET.

I think most of the food offers are a rip, but then again, I have never liked the idea of spending $50 for myself for one meal without booze. My g/f shares this sentiment.

I believe that you just have to call and make your reservation within the 90 days. You can book it much further out than that. when I called in Jan for my Zarkana tickets I could've booked it till the august or sept. Still kicking myself for not redeeming more show tickets since I should another trip planned within the next 90 days.

The price increases on the Cirque shows really hurt. :( And I was about a week too late because I didn't preemptively buy.
EDIT: Was able to get it going with OpenVPN and InCloak's service. Wow, the locals get almost *nothing* compared to out-of-towners. Locals get no buffets, no rooms, no food credits, no Shark Reef, etc, etc. Crazy!

Under the system under which XP/Loyalty Points are earned, I don't think is a feasible option. People could merely hedge their bets to rack up loyalty points while losing very few chips every time. With the current system as is, you still could allow craps/roulette/video poker etc if you keep the LP gain rate the same and not allow autoplay. Hedging bets still wears down playing chips. And grinding blackjack doesn't gain you tons of LPs. I can maybe get 1000 LP or so an hour excluding level up bonuses? It's not that much. But it's definitely better than playing blackjack for free and getting nothing in return. What's sad is that I am such a low roller, I probably get more comps playing myVegas than an actual MGM property...lol

but rather than have her play My Vegas... would it be better to have you select a casino that you are happy with (I said happy, not necessarily ecstatic) and just let her play on their site. If you select Eastside Cannery, their website game offers discounts on rooms prizes that are while not stupendous not illusory either.
There are very few gambling sites on the internet that allow you to earn these kinds of substantial rewards by sitting at home doing bupkus. Hell, they even have an autoplay feature which will get you a solid 1,000 LP an hour at the right betting levels. All you have to do is click once in a while to invoke free spins or a bonus round and hope that you accumulate enough tokens to keep playing.
Of course they are going to dilute the rewards. Of course they are going to make it harder to redeem. But you are getting something for nothing.
It's not like they put on a pile of adware or force you to watch an advertisement that extolls the virtues of one of their properties. It's a legitimate way to get free room nights and meals without having to spend a dime or even gamble with real money!

But if they dilute the awards to the point that the fan base deserts in huge numbers, then their business is going to run into the ground. My understanding that the creators of myVegas are pretty much totally separate from the MGM empire. Interesting, huh.

This is my understanding as well. I'm not a local and have many free room & food offers. I have 200k in points but have never used them. Due to my location I consistently am able to book R-trip+3nights midweek for $200-250 so the time suck isn't really worth it to me so I stopped playing.
Funny my brother has an account & HE lives in Bogota Columbia. he gets the same crappy offers to be fair I used my computer to log in to his account. AxelWolf, everyday they offer free rooms, yes with some restrictions on most, but I have always seen rooms available. The best way to search is to click the "Rewards" button and then click the "Categories" button. After that select "Rooms". You should see about 2 and a half pages of room rewards.
To bypass the restriction from Las Vegas, you need an internet connection that doesn't register as a Vegas location, if that makes sense.
I'll list the room options I see at the nicer properties:
- Mirage, 1 night resort guest room: 75,000
- Mirage, 2 nights resort guest room (level 90 required): 100,000*
- New York New York, 2 night deluxe stay: 125,000
- New York New York, 2 night spa suite stay: 150,000
- Monte Carlo, two night stay: 150,000
- Mirage, weekend night tower suite: 175,000*
- Aria, 2-night city view room: 200,000
The items with an asterisk are showing sold out at the moment, but the others are available for redemption. Meals are more popular, with the best rewards usually sold out nearly always. In fact right now, the Circus buffet (32,000 pts for two) is sold out, and I believe the option is hidden from locals. How do you know when you're getting no respect? It's when you're not considered good enough for the Circus Circus buffet.

If the room options are missing entirely from the rewards menu, then presumably they're detecting you as local. If you can find a way to bypass the restriction, you should see everything listed, but with mixed statuses. If an item is running low, they'll place a "5 LEFT TODAY" tag on the item, for example. And of course if it's gone for the day, the tag in the upper-right corner will say "SOLD OUT."

Possibly. I had over 400k, but my dumbass forgot to move down from the 500 per line bet at the mirage game tonight. Before a bonus round stopped the bleeding after ~35 spins I was down to about 60k. :( Bonus rounds let me win 100k of the loss back, but I'm still pissed. P.S.S. show tickets are easier to convert into cash. However I don't know how getting rooms ans food tickets work we have never done any of this yet I don't even know if my GF has a Mlife card she has not played on the strip in years.

I used my real name when registering but you can use a fake name until you cash in the points. I remember having to put my info when I cashed in, and when you go to the player's club of each casino they write you up a comp with your name on it, so it's hard to transfer it to someone else. Also a warning for anyone getting the 2x buffets or something of that nature; I couldn't split up my comps and had to cash 2 buffets at once. Turns out you can bring 2 guests, but you can't split them up for 2 different times by yourself. Being a loner sucks :(
I recommend playing blackjack and getting your bankroll below 40K, and then collecting chips through feeds and sends.
