Is it illegal or not to use?

Anyway, of course you could disguise the output. Instead of cards, just show which cards to discard using 5 white blanks or dots,

Where they are missing, are the cards or card you discard. Don’t even have to see a representation. The rest of the screen could look like an app of your choice. Or maybe even be a working app.

In advantage play of VP you should be good enough to not need it very often anyway.

Of course you could get even fancier. A avatar character appearing to close its eye might indicate to discard the first card. And so on.

Sounds like too much trouble to me. Even if you disguised the cards it would still be against the rules. Either use it or don't. Very unlikely you will get caught using it.

Let's say it's legal.
A security camera can look down, see what's going on the screen.
Let's say they are uninformed and send security to come down to harass you or back room you, waste your time. Possibly hours. Only to dismiss the whole thing.
Whereas if they see an unsuspicious action, like reading text messages or whatever, they won't bother.
And you really don't need to know the cards, just the position to make the correct play.

Can confirm. Avoid at all costs. I'm writing from jail in Henderson County.

Heh, this comment reminds me of one too many times I listened to someone say, "Don't worry about it, nothing's going to happen."

Possibly the worst advice I ever had as it turns out.

I am not saying you should do it, I won't, but very unlikely you would get in trouble. My guess is that most places would warn you first. Gambling is gambling whether it be for money or your freedom. Weigh the odds and make your own determination.

Hi folks! A couple updates: I've added more games, more paytables, and there's now an iOS app under "Video Poker Analyzer" on the App Store. Appreciate you guys!

This is directed to the Wiz's comment earlier in the thread.

Please don’t think this is a Sour Grapes comment, being a supposed competitor to the thread starter (and to you :-). But I crossed this road some time ago and decided against it.

As for the legal issue, I don’t want to wade into that, having faced the same comments when I introduced a Wear addon (android watches) back in 2022:

NEW VP TOOL

What I found with that feature and with my earlier alpha testing of using a camera to snap a picture of the cards for input to my app is that it takes far more time to use these technologies than just manually punching the cards into my app directly. I never released the Camera version and discarded the Wear version sometime after its release.

Excuse my pedantic analogy: If you have ever deposited checks using your phone, you know the steps – align the image until the app gets a good potential capture, the app captures the image and analyzes it to make sure it has all the needed info (if not, reject it and tell the user to try again), Then do what is needed to process the deposit.

A camera app has the same steps. Align the image, capture it and then analyze it to grab the card images, and then classify the cards. If there is too much glare or angle or some other obstruction involved, it would have to be rejected and another obtained. Once a confident classification is obtained, feed the cards into the normal card processing code for perfect play advice and display.

Additionally, I had app versions where one could just speak the card names for input. That had some additional technical challenges, to say nothing of bothering fellow VP players with incessant mumbling.

Now-a-days, there are AI libraries that makes a lot of this much easier than years ago (sidenote: fortunately, my University research area was AI-Machine Learning so that wasn’t a hurdle for me).

That’s the scoop.

Always nice to see fellow VP software developers doing their thing.

Or you could just memorize the strategy and play 10x faster.

That’ true however if you play 4-5 different games it’s not easy to remember all of them perfectly. There’s one casino I only play at once every 2-3 months so I have to refresh on their best game but perhaps 3-4 times in a 6 hour session I have to look up a hand.
Happy days are here again

I’ve tried to download this app but encountered a problem. It says a requirement for IOS system of 26.0 version or later. How about you backward a little?
