I've been a table player for nearly twenty years, but have never had much interest in VP. Until, that is, my son bought me a handheld 'toy' which I haven't been able to put down.

If I may, I'd like to ask a quick VP question: For Vegas casinos, are drinks comped at the bars if you're playing?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, but play; if you're actively playing, drinks are free.

That may be true where Dan works, as well as at many other casinos, but it is not true at all casinos.

Just ask. Don't assume.

Note that usually, even when the drinks are free at the bar top games, they will often present a bill. This is generally an internal paperwork thing. If they give you a bill with a pen, they probably expect you to sign it, but they won't send the stormtroopers if you don't.

BA35 asked specifically Las Vegas casinos, and in-town the drinks are indeed comped if a player is really playing.

Also in Las Vegas are TONS of 24-hour video poker bars (Dotty's, Office 8, Putters, PT's, Crown & Anchor, Rum Runner, among other chains) that comp drinks for VP/slot play. Slot bars are HUGE in this town. The only places where you cannot get free drinks for slot play are at the 7-11's, SpeedyMarts, and the Supermarkets. For some reason our gas stations, convenience stores, and supermarkets have slot parlors, but without free booze, or booze at all there.

you can usually get a free small cup of soda at the gas stations or a free can of soda at the supermarkets :)

Yeah, Bellagio has a bar behind the Pai Gow Tiles table where the drinks are charged, regardless of whether you are playing. I wanted a frickin' Coke, and he wouldn't get it for me, despite the fact he saw me playing at the table which was 5 feet away.

Yes, I do like my cherry coke, and I probably did order that, but regardless I saw him charge a guy who was playing a cup of coffee which was simply brewing in a pot. This was after the fact, but I still couldn't believe it.
