Alright, so I've always had a difficult time playing craps. Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite game in the casino but there is always a conflict between bankroll management, HA, and action. I enjoy having big wins, but this usually means throwing down a lot of money and a lot of the "big win" methods in craps carry a higher HA (hard ways for example). I started out with pass line + full odds, then coming each bet. I understand that many of the people who frequent this forum can handle that kind of variance, but at this point in my life I just don't have the bankroll for that. I decided to then switch to PL + odds and placing the 6/8. This usually grinded me down, slowly but surely. I'd usually maybe only hit one 6/8 then seven out. Then during my good runs, I'd end out pressing way too much and bust out.

This led to my last trip, where I decided to try the infamous "buy" bet. After asking around and dealing with some unnecessarily jerkish dealers and too-good-for-me pit bosses, I confirmed that you can in fact go up to $25 buy bets and only pay a $1 vig (At least at the Bellagio, Monte Carlo, and NYNY). A friendly dealer decided to mention "In AC you have to round down, but here we do whatever we want". My idea going in was: buy the 4/10 for $25 each. I did this a few times, buying in for only a couple hundred each time but I traditionally busted out everytime. I should have pulled out, but I had pressed to $50 a few times for more/better action (the vig was still only $2, even though technical rounding could have been $3). This occurred a few times, and after a few bad sessions of blackjack I was down $800. After a ridiculously good roulette/slots run I hit a $250 slot 'jackpot' and a $200 off double-zero roulette... playing both to just bide time. After these wins, I decided lady luck had turned around and went to the craps table with a guy who had been playing for hours. Bought in for just $50, I bought the 4/10 for $25 each. He hit a couple of 4's and 10's, then one time I decided to look at my winnings. Magically, unbelievably, I was being paid a green + $24. I thought for a bit, $24 sounded familiar, then it hit me... that's four units for placing the 6 and 8. Now instead of pressing the 4 and 10 to $50, which is a bit beyond my variance, I could just wait until I hit a 4 or 10 then place the 6/8 for $12 each and get some more action. I rode this guy's hot streak and won like $500, placing the 6/8 for the dealers a few times for $6.

I have tried new strategies in the past, but usually fell out of favor with them after I busted my bankroll a few times. This is the first strategy that I came out with a loss, but still loved it afterwards. I've finally found it, a craps strategy that I can call my own that holds a low HA.

It seems like you are placing only low HA bets. I see nothing wrong with your strategy. It spreads you around so that you are not at the highest levels of variance.

Look around for a locals casinos with a $3 minimum. There are more and more of them. Sometimes with 10X odds. El Cortez does this at night. You can play a lot of action at very little HA.

i played a lot of craps this weekend.

$3 table with 5x odds at Suncoast on Friday.
$3 table with 3x4x5x odds at Jerry's Nugget on Saturday.
$5 table with 3x4x5x odds at the Redrock today.

i continuously made passline and comebets with full odds and always turned my odds on during the comeout roll.

friday i won $670.
saturday i lost $530.
sunday i won $280.

i played for about 15hrs total over the course of the weekend. friday was the swingiest. i was down $220 at one point so i had a nearly $900 swing.

How did you like Red Rocks? I haven't had a chance to make it out there yet. Is it worth the drive all the way out there from the Strip?

i prefer going to the Suncoast if im playing craps since they have a smaller table minimum and offer more odds but the Redrock is an extremely nice establishment. definitely my favorite of the station casino properties. they cater to the locals in every way so if you are looking to do something other than gambling like bowling, seeing a movie or going out to dinner; you wont be dissapointed. the crews for their craps games are extremely competent and keep the action moving fast. they also have a poker room that always has games going. 2/4 and 4/8 lhe, 4/8 omaha hilo, and 1/2, 2/5, and 5/10 nlhe. the rake is steep at $5 though plus $1 drop for a bbj. they also have a number of fullpay video poker machines. theyre also pretty good with their promotions. i get a lot of mailers for freebets or matchplay coupons and free slot play.

I think you should stay next door to Suncoast at the Marriot and play at the Rampart Casino which has 100X odds. From there you can venture to both Suncoast and RedRock to sample the restaurants and an IMAX movie. Suncoast has a great selection of art films on a normal week.

There is a free Red Rock shuttle that takes you from the Strip (Fashion Mall) to Red Rock that leaves in either direction once every two hours. It's a nice ride. Taxi is about $40.

Your craps strategy worked because there was no seven out and you ran into a hot shooter. A six or eight will occur 5/3s as often as a four or ten, so you could expect that a $24 six and eight will pay $140 while the $25 buy 4 and 10 will pay $147 (as long as all other numbers but the seven are thrown equally).
