Greetings!
It's that time, once again, for the 2023 WoV NFL Picks Game.
I figured I would go ahead and start this thread just so everyone knows I will be hosting the game again. I will put up the OFFICIAL thread either tomorrow or later today; it depends on what time I get done with something else I have to do.
In the interest of disclosure, the payment to FourFiveFace for I think $180 total remains outstanding. He has not been on since the most recent PM I sent him regarding that payment, so hopefully he will get this PM for the invite (which will be done for anyone who played last year or joined the site within the last year) and we can get that taken care of.***
I'm probably going to say I will wrap those funds into the Playoff Picks Game in the event that he has not reappeared by then. If anyone has his contact information, then please contact him and let him know about this; I don't know how to get ahold of him anywhere but here.
The rules for the main game will remain the same as they were last year. This rule set has always worked well. I believe that the Playoff Game will be substantially similar to what we did last time, as I really liked the format, but I'm going to do a little tweaking so nobody could win it the way I did last year. I knew that something like that could theoretically happen, but year one of that format? LOL
Anyway, discuss, talk trash, or just have fun in this thread. It can also be used for general NFL Discussion or Fantasy Football discussion, if you so desire.

I don't think my contribution to the Prizes will change this season. It's already over $800 as it is (just for the main game) if every Perfection Bonus is hit. I would expect prizes to remain the same.
***ADDED---I went back through his Picks during the Playoff Game and can reconfirm that I was never given a payment method for him. I certainly hope that he is okay, but if he doesn't respond to any PM's I don't know how to get ahold of him nor do I know how to pay him. As everyone is well-aware, I have not handled any player monies directly for the last few seasons, so as far as I know, I don't have any payment information available to me.

As the fabulously lucky winner of last year's regular season contest - by virtue of an immaculately miraculous last week - I look forward to defending my title. Even if all I do is to slide back down to a 0.500 record. Which kinda feels inevitable.

There will be a post linking to the new Official Thread probably tomorrow. Anyone who wishes to participate can either just say so in this thread (and will get reminders), PM me (and will get reminders) or make Picks without getting a reminder as long as they meet the criteria. The only criteria is to have been a member here for at least a month (or to have been verified on DT or PFA via those invites) in order to play.
Only those who played in either of the games last year will automatically receive reminders for Week 1 via PM, regardless of whether or not they PM me or do anything in this thread.

Hard to believe it's that time again. Does anyone have at&t or directv? My local channels fox and cbs are blacked out due to a contract dispute between the 2 parties and the network demanding more than double what they were paid last year. This is going to suck if I cannot watch nfl games.

Are you in or unsure?
I don't have either of those things. I think there is some Youtube or NFL.com package that I can get. If I can't find a game online, then I often just go to one of the local bars and sip on a Coke, unless they have coffee or unsweetened iced tea.

This is fast! It's nice to see we are up to ten participants already.
1.) Nunbeater made his name Nunbeater, I assume, because he is from PFA and MUST make a username that matches that from PFA in order to be confirmed. I am reasonably confident that he does not engage in the physical assault of nuns, nor that of any other member of Catholic clergy.
2.) I have created a Facebook post for my Friends similar to that on DT and PFA. If any of them decide to participate, then they will do so by creating an account here (if they do not already have one) and then DM'ing me the handle that they have made here. I would say that this method is highly secure because most people post on Facebook using their actual names, so I am relatively unconcerned about non payment to winners from those people.
3.) I am creating the Official Thread immediately after this post. Please do not attempt to post in the Official Thread unless your name is, 'Mission146' this is the thread for any and all game discussion.
4.) I have decided that I will PM everyone who has ever played in this game as well as everyone who has joined between 8/1/22 and 7/31/23, and has made AT LEAST five posts with a specific invite. These PM's will probably take place tomorrow as I have a fair amount on my plate today.

If you played this game last year, honestly, you can probably completely ignore the OFFICIAL thread until results and standings start coming in. Everything is exactly the same as last year and the only changes to the rules were dates and a few clarifications (mostly concerning Confidence Picks) regarding questions I'd been asked last season.
I think the PM's to people who have played this game in the past will go out tonight. PM's to Members with 5+ posts during the dates reflected in my post above will go out tomorrow because those take longer to compile.
If you have played this game in the past and have already committed to playing, with my apologies, you might get a PM inviting you to do what you have already done. The way I do it makes sending to previous players extremely fast and sometimes I don't double check as well as I should.

PM's have been sent to (almost) anyone who has ever played in the Regular Picks Game.
A few people do not accept PM's, but it seems that they have also not been on here in forever. My guess is one of the two great AP exoduses for stuff that people discuss, very openly, on Twitter now. If not Twitter, then on Discord servers that they don't think are easy to get access to (even though they are).
I tried not to duplicate invites for people who are already committed, but almost certainly did.

An additional 54 Invites were sent to Members who met the following criteria:
1.) Five, or more, posts since joining.
2.) Join Date between 8/1/22 and 7/31/23 (I actually went a bit before 8/1/22 in some cases)
3.) Not banned.
I don't expect to get very many commitments from these invites to people who have never played before and are new to the site, but if I don't get any, I probably won't do it again because it takes two hours to sort through them all.
***CLARIFICATION---I didn't actually go all the way back and send an invite to EVERYONE who ever played in the regular game; I went back ten years on that. If someone hasn't played in the last ten years, then they have received multiple invites since the last time they did and chose not to play.
Still, I'll probably keep going back ten years every time I do it because that process doesn't take nearly as long as the new member one.

In today's age of cyberthreats, one thing potential players might be concerned about is personal security.
I am making this post to say that the FIRST PLACE winner, whoever it may be, is encouraged to accept payment of Entry Fees that the payor finds both convenient and secure. For example, if someone were not to win and wanted to pay by buying a $25 Amazon Gift Card and giving that Gift card's code to the winner, via PM, then I would encourage the winner to accept that.
I have a sneaking suspicion that people harbor some concerns that they have to share personal information, via one mechanism or another. This is not necessarily true.
The person who would be sharing anything with the most people is the winner, but the winner could always try to suggest some form of payment (of Entry Fees due him or her) that does not result in this. Such forms might include Crypto or Amazon Gift Card codes...or any other kind of Gift Card, really.
If you are paying the winner, then you would only be sharing anything with the winner. If you wanted to pay the winner with something like an Amazon Gift Card code, then I would strongly encourage the winner to always be willing to accept that as payment.

Hey,
EdCollins has not been on since June of this year. If anyone can confirm (even with no other detail) that Ed is okay, please say so.
I really don't care that we would lose the grading program; I just hope Ed is alright.
That said, if EdCollins does not participate and we do lose the grading program, then I would be grading Picks by hand. If I grade Picks by hand, then all results and updated standings can be expected on either Tuesday, or Wednesday, of each week. I'm usually asleep LONG before the end of MNF. LOL
Also, as of Week 3, the proper formatting of Picks WILL be strictly enforced if I have to grade Picks by hand. Please remember, pick formatting:
Mistakes the first two weeks are fine. Your formatting can absolutely suck for the first two weeks; I will reply to your PM by sending your Picks back to you in the correct format. However, after Week 3, I WILL NOT be lenient on formatting if I have to grade by hand. Clarity and ease of grading are the reasons why there is a rule for Pick Formatting in the first place.

That said, if EdCollins does not participate and we do lose the grading program, then I would be grading Picks by hand. If I grade Picks by hand, then all results and updated standings can be expected on either Tuesday, or Wednesday, of each week. I'm usually asleep LONG before the end of MNF. LOL
Also, as of Week 3, the proper formatting of Picks WILL be strictly enforced if I have to grade Picks by hand. Please remember, pick formatting:

Mistakes the first two weeks are fine. Your formatting can absolutely suck for the first two weeks; I will reply to your PM by sending your Picks back to you in the correct format. However, after Week 3, I WILL NOT be lenient on formatting if I have to grade by hand. Clarity and ease of grading are the reasons why there is a rule for Pick Formatting in the first place.

Monday Night Football would only impact WHEN I get the grading done, so I would definitely want to keep MNF games. Mondays tend to be a busy day for me regardless.

I recently signed up for a free key to https://the-odds-api.com/ so if you go to https://miplet.net/newnfl/ you should get current draft kings lines for the upcoming Saturday, Sunday, and Monday games. It gets updated on even hours PT.

Now I just have to re do my comparison lines code because I don’t do any sorting and the api sometimes switches the order of the games. I also don’t know what they do for 0 spread games.

MWalz9- Due to circumstances, MWalz9 will be permitted to submit his Picks via text should he choose to play this season, which he said he was going to do.
The other four went to Terapined, OdiousGambit (who mentioned he might play on DT), EdCollins and FourFiveFace who seems to have returned hours ago. As far as Terapined goes, I'm just trying to prod him into playing again.
