Rangers will win this one I think. Whatever benefits Pittsburgh and I much rather face NY.

If it wasn't for the pool I would have no real favorite. Even with the pool, I have them at 8 and 6 points, so there is not much difference in points. And neither team will advance in round 2.

I do have to thank thecesspit for this pool. Most of the time I watched the Cup and didn't really care who was advancing, unless one team had a Carolina player on the team I would root for. But this year? I care about every series, and that has made it way more exciting for me this year

Agree. Way more fun with like-minded friends.

And you got your wish. The NY/Philly series is done. On to Colorado!

Only got 1/2 of my wish :-( The game appears to be over, but the wrong team has the lead. Oh well, it's only 2 points.

They threw out this stat. In the past 16 game 7s, the team that scored first has gone on to win EVERY time. That is an amazing stat. Let's see if it is 19-0 after tonight.

2 zip, and 3 or 4 other quality chances, and mostly dominating both ends of the ice for the first 2 periods. Philly looks like they burned themselves out last night.
Anyone want to take a bet on McDonagh's fine for the little stick lift nut cruncher he laid on the Ranger in front of the goal?
I say he gets $5,000 fine before the week is out.

I mean I understand bashing the West Coast of CANADA.....with them burning down the City and all.....that and no Cups in.........ever, right? You go get'em Canucks.....Torts is definitely the right answer going forward and Vigneault was definitely the piece that needed to go......just ask those Blue Shirt fans once their Rangers get by Philly later tonight how dissatisfying Alain has been :-).

It ain't the score. It's Philly.

Flow, heart, and the bounce. When two teams are equal, these are the things that decide a game.

Flow is momentum. It might swap back and forth, but whoever has it has a big advantage. I've only been watching since the second period, but NY's owned the flow the entire time.

Heart is the mind frame, the will. NY looks dedicated, on point, completely focused. Philly looks sloppy and near panicked. Too many diving plays, too many stretches off balance for pucks they can't hope to reach, too much trepidation on the close calls they may make.

And the bounce, that's just random. It's luck. Luck that someone will miss a deflection, luck that you'll barely tip a puck enough to have it ring harmlessly off the post. This, at least for now, is completely in NY's favor. And while it's random, it's sort of affected by the above, and the above belongs solely to NY.

Philly had a chance to regain composure and capitalize on the flow with those crazy saves late in the second, but they kept on shakey as ever. And Giroux's near miss was the nail in the coffin.

This game is over.

BTW I really like Philadelphia the city. It's all about the obnoxious fans.

See? See what that big hit did? It led to another big hit just seconds later, and a goal just seconds after that.

Flow.

If Philly is to have a chance, they need another haymaker soon.

I really dislike this new trend of calling a penalty for goaltender interference, even though the defenseman obviously pushed or crosschecked the offensive player into the goaltender. Some of these calls are terrible. There is nothing the player could have done to avoid the goaltender.
The only thing I can imagine is they are trying to tell the offensive players to just flat get away from the crease and the goaltender, and stay a long ways away. Trouble is, many a goal is scored on those scrum plays in the paint.

Win or lose, you get to watch the BOS v MON series tomorrow, and that's a consolation prize that's better than most grand prizes =)

Although, despite its late start time, I might sleep right through it. This COL v MIN matchup is insane! Dunno how I'm gonna sleep after this...

I'm right with you kenarman, and Colorado is playing well enough to give away their game with Minn too. At this rate I could have the finalists right, and the SC champ, and still get dusted in the pool. Stupid west coast teams......

Yes that should be one of the best match ups of the play offs. Local boy Price against the Big Bad Bruins. I don't think Montreals D is good enough but Price might make the difference.

Interestingly, all of the possible team points are still represented. In other words, the teams left are ranked 1 thru 16 by the various pool players. Here are the number of times a ranking can be found in the remaining 8 teams. Since there are 11 players, everyone still has their number 12 pick left, except for kenarman who lost his #12 to Dallas.

I watched "Rollerball" (1975) in LA Kings' announcer Bob Miller's honor tonight for the historic comeback; I don't own "The Mighty Ducks" DVD...lol But I really, really, really hate the Kings, and have been a Sharks ~fan ever since they joined the league. My first hockey jersey was a Sharks jersey (around 13 years old), followed by Nordiques, followed by Oilers, followed by Nordiques again in larger adult size, followed by the Blues alternate. The last team is actually my "home" team, but I have hated their jersey all my life until the alternate came out in the last few years. A lot of St. Louis agrees with me on that too I think. Probably half of Blues fans wear an alternate.

But, again, it's BOS v MON time! I'm gonna go bang out 10 hours of yardwork so the game comes quicker =D

It's all moot. Rangers, Pens, they will/would both be devoured by the winner of BOS v MON

The Pacers are a familiar team. Very high seed in the playoffs, but played pretty poorly leading into the playoffs. Eeked out a first round win. Lost first game of second round, won the next three, now lost game 5 at home by a lot. Has a coach who might be fired if they lose. Hmmmm

It's a comparison about how their situation is very similar to the Penguins. Add on both lost in the ECF last year as well.

Yeah, not sure how I can catch you. Colorado losing to MN in round 1 hurt me a lot more than it hurt you.

PK would be a great heel to NY fans.

Dude... that guy, if he can pull this off for several years, might just become my favorite player of all time.

I have never, EVER seen someone who can skate like he can. I don't even have a catchy adjective to describe it, he literally strikes me dumb. Stick handling? Dangling? I'd put him against every dangler in the NHL today and have full confidence he'd come within the top 5. Shot? Right on the money. Heart, will, determination? Yes, yes, and yes.

Not even being a homer, but if I made a team right now, he'd be my first pick. Not only out of players today, but out of every player of all time.

I even typically shun or even dislike offensive defensemen. With the exception of Phil Housley and Paul Coffee, I haven't a good word to say about any of them. But PK blows my mind.
