Be that as it may I am 7-3 and I believe Mike is 3-7. One might wonder exactly which man belongs behind the curtain !
The Week 2 Results are as follows:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/sports/14893-wov-picks-game-2013-official-thread/#post269483
And, the new Standings appear in the post below.
1.) None of the players who played this week are undefeated or winless, however, MinnesotaJoe has kept the dream alive for a winless team by Skipping Week 2. Hopefully, something just came up and he hasn't dropped out of the game.
2.) Our woes continue, we are 175-220 for .443 overall, and Confidence Picks are 14-23 for .378.
3.) I told you guys I'd go 1-4 this week, it may have looked like 4-1 in that post, but I'm just a really bad typist.
New Lines coming Thursday at around 0:00 EST!!!
Quote: KeyserSozeMission- my name KeyserSoze appears twice in the Wk 2 standings list. Thanks for running this thing.
You're welcome, and thanks for letting me know about that, it's been corrected.
What happened was I mistakenly spelled your handle with a, "Z," as in, "Keyzer," in Week 1, so the program thought you were two different people. I corrected your second appearance in the Standings with your record for both weeks, (it had two different records) but forgot to delete your first appearance in the Standings.
I caught it before I hit POST. Otherwise my name may be showing in RED this morning???
Quote: zoomzoom8Mission, my pick for Redskins under 49.5 was scored as a win but the final score was 38-20. Maybe there is a bug in the scoring program?
Oh no, I was afraid of this. I'll look into this right away.

When it saw your pick,
Redskins UNDER 49.5
it saw the "49" in the pick and then saw the word "Under" in the pick, the logic assumed you were picking under in the 49er game. (That would have been a winner.)
Fixing this now.
Quote: boymimboI think there's a few errors in the standings. Please look and check again.
So far I see no other errors of any kind. ?? What else do you see?
Quote: beachbumbabsThat's a very funny coincidence!
Yea, and if we hadn't caught this now, it might have been several weeks before this scenario appeared again.
This was the only game over the past two weeks with "49" or "49.5" as the over/under.

That's hilarious! Do I need to put the total points the game has to be Under, or can I just put Under? If that is the case, then I can probably take out the 49 later, (my laptop doesn't have the program that this is on) if not, then I can probably just change the Line/Pick to 48.999 and be observant for any score of exactly 49 for future games where it is 49.

Yes, you can just change it to "Redskins Under" and the program will work fine. It's that over/under score it saw, in the pick (which it disregards anyway... it already knows what the line is), which caused the error.
It's already fixed and I can upload a current version, but right now I'm looking for any other error of any kind. So far I don't see anything!
Like saying, "Seven," after a point is established! LOL
Quote: beachbumbabsWell crud. I thought I understood how to bet the line, but I made an expensive mistake... All I know is I have no confidence in my understanding of how these are structured, but I'm going to examine it more closely and see if I can't straighten myself out. Sheesh.
For the record...
BeachBumBabs 7 4 63.64% $11.36
DuckManKilla 2 8 20.00% $55.00
I'd say just keep on with what you're doing. You may have made a fatal error in finding out how the lines actually work, as you were doing pretty well betting the opposite of what you wanted. I keep saying i'm just going to throw darts for next week's picks, but my confidence in picking games by hand is preventing me from doing so. We can see how well that's gone so far. Got any insight as to which team you want but don't really want this week Babs?
First, thanks a lot to ZoomZoom for catching the bug in my silly program. He was correct. His pick was graded as a win, thinking his pick was "49ers under." Duh.
What's interesting is if the 49er/Seahawk game HAD gone over, and graded his pick as a loss, we wouldn't have caught this error yet. It would have graded the pick correctly... but for the wrong reason!
Second, sorry for the inconvenience.
Third, if anyone is interested, an updated version of the program can be found here.
http://www.edcollins.com/wov_nfl_football_contest_calculator_version_1.24.xlsm
This version fixes this bug and has a few other enhancements. This copy has the data for week 1 and 2 already pasted in.
Fourth, I hope another bug doesn't surface because I will really feel bad if it does. (Maybe Mission shouldn't be using this program at all.)
Fifth, if you're batting 500 or better, pat yourself on the back! After two weeks more than half the players are under 50%.
Finally, thanks again to Mission for hosting. I'm glad to know he enjoys doing it, but I can see it's not always easy and it's certainly a bit of extra work.
Next year I'm going to vote that we not only do we wish him to host again, but that we ask him to officially play too (and be eligible for the grand prize). I don't see why he couldn't do both. I've played in chess tournaments where the tournament director is also one of the players. (That's permissible.) If Mission is in the running for 1st in the last few weeks, he can e-mail his picks to a 3rd party if need be, before receiving picks from the others.
Good luck to everyone in Week 3!
Quote: MidwestAPEd, this tool is fantastic!!! Nice work!
Thank you but let's just hope there are no more stupid BUGS IN THE PROGRAM!
But if there is... then I'll just fix 'em, I guess. It won't be the end of the world.
Were he in the pool, it might become a suicide mission. ( pun intended )
Quote: EdCollinsOkay, here we go...
Second, sorry for the inconvenience.
There is none, the next mistake I would have made, if still grading the Picks, wouldn't be the first. Besides, your program saved me a crazy amount of time on grading the Picks. The process of inputing the Picks takes about the same amount of time, but the grading enables me to get the results out quicker, which is great for the participants and myself.

I'll definitely use that, and again, if another bug happens, it happens, and someone will certainly catch it. This is still saving me crazy amounts of time.

You're welcome, and the amount of work is rapidly declining!
In terms of playing, probably not, I like to run it and I'd insist on submitting my Picks to a neutral third party from the word, "Go." I also don't like the possibility of there existing the possibility of fading everyone, don't want it to even be a question. Finally, I have a fixed loss on this game, way I'm picking, I could lose a lot more if I were active! LOL
The Week 3 Lines have been posted:

... how everyone reacts to the 19.5 point spread in the Jags / Seahawks game.
... how well Babs does, now that she understands the line. :)
... how well we do as a group, to see if we suck again.
Quote: EdCollinsI'm looking forward to seeing...

.
I agree that the SEA will be interesting. I think that most people will avoid it because the money line bet discussion was about probability of winning, not probability of covering. I suspect that when the Jags win, they barely win, when they lose they get utterly destroyed.
Quote: boymimboI won't touch a 19 point spread with a 10 foot pole. Too many things can happen.
How about 23 points in a Super Bowl.? Or those same 23 points in the NCAA Basketball Championships game.
Missed the first one, could not bet against Johnny U, even if he was only on the bench.
SLAMMED the basketball game !
Welllll, I'm out there. But at least I understood what I'm getting into this week, thanks to you and Mission. Go, Jags! (just kidding).
The underdogs beat the spread 4 of the other 6 games.
Any New England fans want to hazard a guess as to how New England fared ?
HINT : New England was at home for 4 of those games.
12 games is indeed a small sample, but .850 is a pretty decent percentage.
The Week 3 Reminders have now been sent out for those players who have not submitted Picks.
It's tough to say whether or not MinnesotaJoe will be playing. I took a look in my Outbox and did notice that he has not opened last week's Reminder PM, so let's hope that everything is well with him. He has also not logged in since September 7th, which is public information, so I have not violated the PM Confidentiality Rule.
I'd ask that nobody make any insinuations based on the fact that a Member drops out of the game, with something like this where many players do not know one another outside of this Forum, it's impossible to know what could have happened with someone.
The Week 3 Picks can be found here:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/sports/14893-wov-picks-game-2013-official-thread/2/#post270953
I can confirm that we have no Picks from MinnesotaJoe or BeardGoat for this week. Thus, MinnesotaJoe is out or may choose to absorb an 0-5 record for this week, and this shall be BeardGoat's skip week.
Or maybe he has something else on his mind?
Some lopsided picks today by our poolers. Good luck to one and all, we need it.
No one picked Seattle, but there were 10 total picks for Jacksonville.
No one picked Carolina, but there were 16 picks for the Giants.
The Colts were picked 14-2 ATS over the 49ers.
The Texans were picked 13-3 ATS over the Ravens (go Ravens)
Chargers were picked 14-3 ATS over the Titans.
No real betting for me this week!!!

Just a note for those using Ed's Excel file:
We were listed as "You Can Bet On That" in the Week 3 picks on the official thread. You'll need to remove the spaces from that name to be consistent with our login and the previous weeks' entries (use "YouCanBetOnThat").

Me either and THANK GOD.
I thought both NFL and College was tougher than normal this past weekend. I would have gotten fleeced if I would have really bet this weekend. However there is always tonight! Hmm...... LOL

Noted, thank you!

Good work. I didn't catch this all weekend and I feel I should have.
I fixed this. A subsequent version will treat You Can Bet On That & YouCanBetOnThat, or Beach Bum Babs & BeachBumBabs, etc., as the same player. (The program already ignores case, but now it ignores all spaces found in the name too.)
Quote: Buzzard9 and 6 works for me !
After finishing 2-3 in Week 1 and then 1-3 last week, I'm ecstatic to have a record of 8-7 after Week 3.
Quote: boymimboThere is no one batting over 2/3 and only 3 at 60% or over at best.
I'll be in Vegas this weekend, working. If I felt this trend was going to continue, I should bet against this weekend's consensus. :)
