Isle of Capri has just opened a poker room in Blackhawk. I hate bad beat jackpots. I want to play poker, not slots. But the bad beats in new room appear to really suck. The other rooms take $1 for each $10 up to $30. Then $1 for bad beat for next 2 $10
increment for pot of $50 and above with a rake of $5 max.
It looks like the Isle is going to rake $3 on the first $20. OUCH ??? and $5 on the first $40

Guaranteed at $100,000

Three Ways to Win

1. Four 8's or better beat pays 75% of the total jackpot pool
2. Any 4-of-a-kind or better beat (four 2s to four 7s) pays 50% of the total jackpot pool
3. Aces full of 10s or better beat (Aces full of 10s to Aces full of Kings) pays 10% of the total
jackpot pool

The poker room shall maintain a single bad beat jackpot pool. When any type of bad beat jackpot
is won, it shall be paid out as:

* 50% to the losing hand (2nd best hand)
* 25% to the winning hand (best hand)
* 25% table share split
* Qualifying hands less than 2nd best will only receive a table share

In order to fund the bad beat jackpot pool, the poker room will take a bad beat drop, not to exceed
$2, on every hand in jackpot eligible games. This bad beat drop shall be taken as follows:

* When the pot reaches $20, $1 (one dollar) will be taken
* When the pot reaches $40, an additional $1 (one dollar) will be taken for a total of $2
(two dollars)

The poker room bad beat jackpot pool shall be displayed in the poker room at all times and will be updated each date at or before 2:00pm by poker supervisor or above.

Do they have the requirement of using both hole cards, that they must be pairs for quad hands?

If they are collecting more than other rooms, and paying less, I'd assume that the rules were relaxed to have more payouts.

I recently saw a hand where one guy had KJ, the other had 77. The board was 77JJJ. While the guy with the quad 7s had a qualifier, the guy with the quad Js did not.

He DID use the King as part of his best 5 cards, but that wasn't good enough for the jackpot.

Maybe it WILL be good enough at Isle. Hell, maybe it wouldn't matter what his kicker was....

The rule is normally that for quads only count for bad beats if the player has pocket pairs. The player does news the K... his hand is JJJJK.

Verify it. Because, like I said, it sounds like they are raking a lot more than other rooms, and paying out less.

The only reason I can think of doing that is because they have relaxed rules about qualifying.

Ignore this thread till I vist blackhawk next month. Looks like the inmates are in charge of the asylm !!!!

QUOTE :

No offense, and I'm not suggesting that you're singling out the Lodge, but I have to ask you. Was it the rake that hurt the Lodge? Yes, they went to 6+2 when they were jammed with a $600k+ BBJ (bad move). But they were full every day by noon for months (with 21 tables) with that rake until all 3 BBJs hit in 11 days.

Then the players migrated overnight like cattle to the next biggest BBJ in town. Not because of the rake, but because of the lottery mentality of Black Hawk players.

Of course all rooms (Lodge included) are now 5+2, but Ameristar is considering a 6+2 rake while the gettin is good - get their cash while you can! I guess from a business standpoint you can't blame them - the players WILL BE THERE, so rape them.

6 + 2 is outrageous.

Here in LV, Luxor and the Riv take $2 for jackpot. Last time I played the Riv (a year ago), I had pockets 8s and flopped quads, and got paid.... nothing. When I asked WTF, the dealer pointed to a sign by the desk and said "quads are off this hour". I haven't been back. $2 drop for jackpots and flopping quad eights didn't qualify. Rooms a dump anyway. No one plays there. Wonder why.

I played the Rio couple weeks ago and watched two people flop a straight flush in diamonds. Flop was 789 all diamonds, bet, raise, reraise, they get it all in on the turn and player 1 had TJ, other guy had 56. The 56 guy lost his whole stack, but both guys got $100 bonus for SF.

Some places (like Harrahs) only give the bonus to the winning hand. I had a friend lose his stack when his quad tens were beaten by quad jacks, and he didn't get a bonus for quads. Ouch!

Every place in this town that has jackpot hands make you use both holecards except Excalibur. At Excal, one card will do, and you get a wheel spin. I had Jack of clubs in my hand there a year ago and ended up with a royal on the river using one card. Of course I won the hand, and spun the wheel for an extra $75. I've had 7 straight flushes in the last year and half, every one in clubs except one steel wheel in diamonds, and every one occurred in rooms with no high hand jackpots.

How bad does that suck?

Tropicana reopens their poker room tonight, so we'll see what their policy is. I'll take some pics.

Bad beats and jackpot hands are one reason I stopped playing poker live... I got tired of all that money being scooped of the table that I was hardly likely to ever see again.

The thing is, the 56 hand would get paid $50k instead of $100 at the joint with the 6+2 drop. If you are hoping to get hit by lightning, you have to spend a fair amount of time getting wet in the rain.
