There are a number of things that make me doubt the. Veracity of the article.

there is no doubt at all that the article is true. this is his New York Times obituary - he died last August

there is a thread about him at bjtf - there are several there who knew him and one or two who teamed up with him in other ventures

there is a great quote from the Doc in the article referring to casino managers who hassled him. he said:

I wish these guys would write autobiographies to be published upon their death.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.
