I see what you did there.Quote: Wizardlink to original postQuote: Ace2I would like to state for the 31,416th time that bad players neither help nor hurt other players at the blackjack table.
The player mistakes that bother me the most are:
(1) Playing any game on the Strip when there are better odds at downtown or off-strip casinos (except Park MGM, I'll understand if people want to pay a premium to avoid noxious smoke).
(2) Playing slots anywhere. That's a rookie mistake if there ever was one.
Along the same line:
Betting black chip ($100) on single deck 6:5 bj when $15 3:2 bj is a few tables away.
However, I don't think the casinos are making more money. Every year there are fewer and fewer tables, and fewer and fewer slots. I think people came to Vegas with a set gambling budget and play until they lose it, the only difference is how fast it takes them to lose (faster with bad odds, slower with good odds). And when people lose their money quickly, it's not fun and they're less likely to play again in the future. So, I think the casinos are shooting themselves in the foot. If they set all the slots to 99% they'd probably make more money, because all the seats would be full.
Player mistakes hurt me in BJ if they slow down the game.Quote: MichaelBluejayI see what you did there.Quote: Wizardlink to original postQuote: Ace2I would like to state for the 31,416th time that bad players neither help nor hurt other players at the blackjack table.

My income would be severely degraded if I was unable to play slots. It is a rookie mistake to play the wrong slots at the wrong time. It is a sophomore mistake to avoid all slot play out of some uninformed prejudice.
Quote: AZDuffmanNot a "mistake" but anyone playing Big 6/8. I deal the game for parties and tell people that it "is the stupidest bet in the casino." I then explain the difference between 1:1 and 7:6. You would be amazed how many people do not understand what that means! Makes me wonder when you will see a BJ layout saying "BLACKJACK PAYS 1 FOR 1!"

Well, blackjack does pay 1 for 1.
If the dealer also has a blackjack.
"No. We're not playing against each other. We're all playing against the dealer."
"Yes. Your pocket kings are a good thing."
I realize people have to learn a game somehow, but it strikes me that at a casino table with real money isn't the wisest classroom choice. Exceptions can be made for people like the Wizard who seek out field trial games to analyze. Anyways, these days I just tell the dealer to give the guy a rack card and then shut my yap.

Quote: GialmereThe one that bothers me (perhaps because you get involuntarily drawn into it) is when you're playing a game like UTH or MS and a guy sits down next to you, buys in, makes a bet and then asks you, "How do you play this game?" Never mind basic strategy. I try to be polite and answer a few basic questions.

I don’t mind it. I had one recent Pai Gow Poker session where I was playing my hand, and essentially the 3 newbies to my right as well. They were friendly, there to have a fun time, and also learn the game. It didn’t take long for them to get the basics down, and they would just check with me occasionally. The dealer/pit boss didn’t seem to care. In similar situations I’ve been scolded in the past to let the dealer set it as house ways.
My friend I go with prefers a fast table so he would agree with you.

Sadly, I think we have all made that mistake at one time or another. Fortunately the machine locks up if dealt a Royal flush.
