After a mediocre but free meal, a friend and I turned $30 in promo chips into $25 American dollars. Some of my group recieved tickets for a raffle to be held in about forty minutes, so we all had to wait.
I sit down at a $5 table, and it's choppy as hell. The dealer is annoying, the guy at first base is wearing a polyester suit that reeks of smoke, and I'm catching an occasional whiff of urine. I'm up $5 after 20 minutes, so I'll up my bet to $10 and will leave, win or lose.
I got a pair of sevens, and the dealer's upcard was a 4. I split and end up with two 21s. I'm already making plans for my newfound wealth as the dealer turns over a face. My smile is turned upside down as the next card is another 7, and he pushes my two 21s. I thank him and tip him $5. The whole thing was as thrilling as mall walking.

I don't understand. I also haven't had a BJ in a while. A good Beaujolais is unlike anything else, delightfully refreshing for a red, but it only seems to be available in certain times and places. I'll have to ask around more to see if anyone is capable of providing me one.
Quote: billryanI've taken a break from casinos and intended to wait until the new Midtown casino opens, but fate intervened. I was up at the San Carlo Apache Reservation when my host offered us a comp meal and a few promo chips for their casino.

Why did you tip an annoying dealer?
Quote: billryanMostly because he has a dead-end job in a shitty casino, almost certainly has a wife and several kids living on a hellhole reservation, and I doubt he recieved proper training. He stands on his feet all day, dealing with tourists who want to know everything about today's Apaches.

3 day suspension for profanity. Bill, if you're going to flagrantly violate the forum rules there will be consequences.

I’m being serious. Are you saying ‘shitty casino’ is not acceptable on WoV? I think that’s not even close to being suspension worthy.
I actually am the ‘thank you’ for his post, as I think it is both insightful and well written.

Profanity- from the Latin words pro ("in front of") fano (abl. of fanum, "temple") and it refers to objects, words, actions that would desecrate (think "de-sacred") a Roman temple and must be left outside. Every Roman knew what those things were.
Thus, profanity can be taken as relative to the place where it is being used. What is too profane for a casino gaming forum? I don't know, what is too profane for a casino? We all know the kind of language that will draw negative attention and cause us to be told to shut it down in a typical casino. I haven't seen anything like that in this thread.

As a general guard-rail; usage of an F-bomb or the s-word will earn you a suspension from me; a warning might be used for a new member who might genuinely have been unaware. I presume billryan knows the rules; he probably also is aware that I sometimes give him unusual leeway or grace because of the optics of banning him all the time. Yet he deliberately and intentionally did what he flagrantly did. I don't lose a nanosecond of sleep over this one.
Quote: Rule 6
Keep it PG. No pornographic or violent images or text. Profanity is prohibited, especially the F word. (Amended 2/23/14 to not allow profanity at all. The previous policy was more lenient.)
Forum rules may be found here.
Emphasis added. Still, if anyone really needs a bar of Lifebuoy for their pottymouth, I think there's a website where you can post videos for like minded enthusiasts...

Point of fact: We are told to "Keep it PG," and PG has a written and publicly accessible definition.

The word in question can be used sparingly in a PG movie in the United States. Therefore I move that the suspension be voided on account of ambiguity of the written rule and that a good-faith reading of the definition of "PG" could result in a singular usage of the word.

The PHRASE ‘shitty casino’ is NOT profane! It is a colorful descriptor of a big bad establishment. If you are at MGM and discussing Caesar’s, and the person says Caesar’s is a shitty casino, do you even notice?

The rule was written in 2010 (and amended in 2013) by Michael Shackleford and reflects his decision that the dialogue in this forum should be civil and polite. There are dozens of adjectives that an articulate person could use to substitute for "sh#tty." The rule says No Profanity. Administrators have to interpret that rule in order to enforce it. While I always reserve the right to use my discretion, my rule of thumb is that the F-bomb, S-word, C-word and G-D phrase are sufficiently objectionable (when spelled out explicitly) to trigger me to suspend. That's clear, easy for members to understand and easy for me to enforce. I personally don't suspend for mild profanity, although members would have grounds to virtuously object to that as well.
If we were to announce that the s-word is now allowed, we would likely have some boundary-stretching yahoo start writing posts with 30 s-words- Nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. That is just not the tone that the Wizard wants - that is not what he wants a new visitor to this forum to encounter.

I like the idea of avoiding profanity to develop writing discipline and expand your powers of expression. If you look at the catalogs of the most respected bands they aren't bombarding their listeners with billingsgate, you might find a half dozen artfully used expletives in their body of work. But get into the disposable bands and they are full of profanity, because listening to that music was intended to communicate that you do not accept traditional social norms.
And if you wish you can be even more offensive or more shocking by not using the profanity. It makes you sound more serious.

I presume this was not at Basic Training.
It's okay to say crappy casino, but use a word that means the exact same thing, and someone gets their panties all twisted up.
You really can't make this stuff up.
