For a positive progressive betting BJ tactic (like up and pull or 1-2-3-5-1, or any for that matter), how do folks handle the following:

1) surrenders- count as a LOSS and start sequence over?
2) shoe changes- continue progressive betting from previous shoe or start over?

You cannot beat blackjack or any other casino game with progressive betting.
You are increasing your bet but if you have a disadvantage you are only increasing your likely loss.
Your winning the previous round or rounds does not make you more likely to win the next round.
Basic strategy + card counting is the way to gain an advantage in blackjack.
It is hard to learn at first but after you have learned it it becomes much easier.
Many thousands of people use a strategy of pressing up their bets particularly at craps tables.
If this was an effective strategy casinos would quickly become bankrupt.
Without basic strategy + card counting blackjack can only be useful as a diversion or a form of entertainment.
And a costly one.

You can't beat blackjack or any other casino game flat betting (it's a betting strategy also) either!
Successful (people who actually make some money) card counters use a progressive betting strategy. You have to bet higher when you believe the deck is in your favor to offset the losses when you believe it is neutral or negative. You also have to hide what you are doing or risk being flat betted or run out completely.

Good counters will look like beginners and not get greedy. Get up and walk away with worthwhile gains.

You are not wrong but pro blackjack players do not use that word "progressive" to describe their betting strategy. "Progressive" is a word that is associated with too many worthless systems. The correct word to describe the betting strategy is "proportional." Proportional to the count.
