I live near Toronto and ofter frequent the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls. They allow you to bet $2.50 chips and roundup on the payout. So for instance if you were to bet $12.50, a blackjack payout would be $19.00 as opposed to $18.75. How does this extra $0.25 that you make on every blackjack lower the house edge assuming you always bet $12.50 every hand? Thanks.

It would improve YOUR edge, not the house edge

At Fallsview they use 8 decks, S17, DAS allowed, Double any two cards, No resplitting aces, no surrender. Under these rules the house edge is approx 0.43%. What would it be lowered to with the favourable blackjack payout. Min bet is usually $15, goes up to $25 on weekends, every once an a while they will have a $10 table. So min bet to take advantage would be $12.50 for a $19.00 win on a BJ.

my quick dirty math guess is it lowers it to about .35% HE. you get a BJ about once every 25 hands. so youre expected to lose $1.34 ($12.50x.43%x25) but youre making 25cents extra. so 1.09 instead. (1.09/1.35)*.43% = ~.35%

thanks! Makes sense. Doesn't make a huge difference, but every little bit counts. I play craps too, $5 or $10 table with 345X odds. Always play full odds with 2 come bets and a pass line bet. So technically BJ would be a better bet with a .35% HE as opposed to a .374% edge taking full odds in craps. Basically the extra 25 cent payout in blackjack lowers the HE by about .08%.

No. "Better" is determined by your enjoyment, speed of play, amount wagered, etc. A few tips to the dealers and cocktail waitresses and you are surely giving away that 0.08 percent anyway. Any better comps would counteract the 0.08 percent as well.

All you can really say is that there is a miniscule lowering of the house edge, but the ball is still in your court.
