Even reviewers who are very critical of the movie, can't say enough wonderful things about Jennifer Lawrence.

From the reviews, it looks likes she saved a
mediocre story by turning in a good performance.
Too much CG for me, I'd go to sleep for sure.
Cartoons mixed with real people are just too fake,
I slept thru most of the LOTR movies. And Woody
Harrelson in anything seals the deal for me.

I remember walking out in the middle of ET in
the early 80's because of the stupid puppet. How
did it end, did they eventually kill ET and eat him?
I hope so..

That is exactly how it ends, you must have googled it. Did you catch the end of the Sound of Music where the children are all mowed down by machine guns?

Wasn't that the ending in the Mad Magazine version?
They generally hated movies like that.

I do plan on eventually seeing it (despite the ludicrous economic background of the HG universe).

I always get a kick out of people who buy into the economy of the "Matrix" movie... where computers feed and coddle humans at monumental expense so that each can generate a few volts of electricity. Yeah, that'd be smart.

The parody was called The Sound of Money and it was
hilarious. They called it that because the studio only
allowed it to be shown in one theatre per city and they
charged more and people had to wait to see it because
it was sold out all the time. It was in my city at the
same theatre for over a year.

That was my thought as well. This movie is unbelievable because it is based on faulty economic theory. I would have enjoyed the movie more if the machines had captured electric eels and put them in pods.

Yup. Guess I'm just a stickler for 'hard' sci-fi. I don't pay much attention to the soft stuff, except the original Star Wars trilogy of course. Even with a great novel like Ender's Game I got really angry at how the latter chapters were handled after such a great start.

I saw this on opening weekend and thought it was damn good (I did not read the book). Lots of action and a decent story-line to back it up. I cant wait for the next two films.

I was wrong about this movie being a contender to shatter box office records. An estimated 15 million tickets were sold the first two days, nearly matching the Dark Knights 16 million, ticket sales have dropped quickly. I don't think it will reach 40 million tickets.

I'm curious how many of you have read The Long Walk, by Stephen King (he wrote it under the pseudonym Richard Bachman) and if so, what you thought of that story.

Obviously, there are some similarities. (A drawing for kids in a futuristic society to participate in a contest to the death, etc.)

I have not read it. I am intrigued that someone bought the rights to such a sadistic story. It is the guy who produces the Walking Dead currently on AMC-TV.

I read the Long Walk years ago. King wrote it
under his Bachman pen name, back when he
still had talent.

I finally saw Hunger Games on Netflix. I lasted 22 min. Boring,
bad acting, dumb story, poor cinematography. Hard to believe
it made so much money. I've seen better acting in a high school
play.

I read it years ago. With all the school shootings lately, that is the kind of story that is too heavy to get published today. Nevertheless, a good and unforgettable story.

Re: The Hunger Games, one of the best movies I've seen the last few years. Then again, I loved Prometheus too, and that is not one of my more popular opinions either.

I have also read the Long Walk and thought it was good. But I have not read/seen the Hunger Games surprisingly, even though I told myself I would a lot.

What a coincidence, I just saw it for the 2nd time, on Netflix (saw it first in the theaters).

I agree it has pacing issues and is too long. I still enjoyed it overall, but I wouldn't want to watch it again.

I'll watch any movie with good acting. The acting here
was atrocious, it was painful to watch. I only made it
to 22min and I was moaning out loud. The sets were
bad, the costumes a joke. Plus, Woody Harrelson was
in it and I can't stand him. Talk about no acting ability.
Luckily I bailed before he appeared. He always plays
the same character. Woody Harrelson. Slight sarcasm
in his voice, same I'm Important demeanor. Yuk.

I liked the Hunger games, but felt the main theme throughout the trilogy was too large for a trilogy- couldn't spoil. The ending really stunk and didn't seem to be good- couldn't spoil.
The Talisman/Dark House would make a great movie and I wish they would make it. Apparently a car which seemed alive was too hard for a movie.

Well I liked Prometheus a lot. The Hunger Games was very well done, even if her luck was a little contrived. I don't think it is too much of a spoiler to say she doesn't kill a single person in anger.

The movie was very uncomfortable, but I think that was a good thing. It reminds you how sadistic a voyeuristic society can become.

I think it's more sad how a wealthy nation may become filled with people living in poverty where food becomes a luxury. It's a very plausible future unfortunately.

Just saw HG2. It took 1 hour and 25min to get
to the games. I've seen more action on Survivor.
I especially liked that no matter how many arrows
she shot, her quiver was always magically full
in the next scene, with no explanation. I give
it 3 stars out of 10, pretentious doesn't even cover it..
