P.S. you guys shouldn’t be giving off clues after you’ve solved the word of the day. Good thing I don’t read this first. But you’re saying too much.

That's a fair comment. I would suggest to everyone they not visit the thread until they have done the Wordle of the day already. Also, recognize players in other time zones can play a given puzzle many hours before you and I can.

Game: 5
Turn 1: sailer / BBYBBY
Turn 2: boring / YGGYBB
Turn 3: morbid / BGGGGG
Turn 4: forbid / Correct!

Note1: I was going to pick "forbid" for turn 3, but then I quickly looked at this chart and went for "M" as the starting word (since there are slightly more*** that start with M, when compared to F).

***: I realized straight after that I tricked myself with "silly reasoning" (normally that would have been "good reasoning", but not when there is a "50/50 chance ").

Note 2: I am using the same "color codes" that I use for Wordle.

Ugh, I think that was Worldle 317 not 316? 316 was today US time, but when I clicked your spoiler the answer was different and I think I spoiled myself for tomorrow US time.

Again, sorry about that, I will try to post my Wordle answer after 5 pm (my time) / 12am or later (for US - Mainland time zones) so that if I do make an error like that again, it "won't matter" as much.

If you still want to try Wordle 317, then you can wait a week or so, put the clock back to today's date in your PC, and hopefully you won't remember what it was by then (if you have a "bad short-term memory" like me, then this could possibly work for you).

Please remember that Smarty Pants is not only free we don't even have a paywall to put it behind. You can also play it as much as you like, as opposed to once a day.

On another topic, I'd like to say the forum, "May the forth force be with you," this upcoming Star Wars day on May 4. I'd also like to remind the forum the solution on Arbor/Earth Day was "plant." Another forum member kindly reminded me of this via PM, but didn't want to get blamed for any spoilers. However, I'm all about gaining a fair edge any way possible, so I'll say it.

You know that I like BANTER as my starting word in Smarty Pants. Often, that gets just one yellow on the first turn. At times like that, I wish I had some words at the ready that had all fresh letters. Necessity is the mother of invention, so I culled a list of the best words that contain none of the letters in BANTER and don't repeat any letters. There are only nine such words on my list of allowed words. Here they are, in order of most points to least.

SODIUM
POLICY
SHOULD
POLISH
GUILTY
SIMPLY
WISDOM
COMPLY
MODIFY

In other news, I doubt anyone noticed, but I play Smarty Pants too much to keep posting my scores. I'm going through the games in numerical order. At the moment, I'm at game 31.

"One clue is a lie..." That brings back an old memory.

I used to love to play MasterMind, back in was a fad, a thing, the best-selling game that year, in the late 1970s, I believe. I used to ask every member of my family, "Give me a code to solve!" (Jeez, what I would have given for a computer back then.)

I taught my kid sister how to provide feedback clues. She was born in 1970, so she couldn't have been more than 8 or 9. Anyway, now and then she would make a mistake in giving me feedback, possible when a double-color was involved. She wasn't scoring it properly. I never got mad. She was my baby sister, after all and I was happy to play with anyone. So that developed into our own little "variation..." At most, just once a game, the CodeMaker can provide improper feedback to the CodeBreaker. This way, if she did make a mistake, it wasn't a mistake at all.

Solving puzzles under these conditions made it all the more challenging, but still lots of fun.

I'm reading complaints on Facebook that todays Wordle is not a legitimate word, especially from non-Americans. Seems a legitimate complaint to me, but the online dictionaries, include for Scrabble, say it's a real word, as opposed to slang.

Merriam Webster defines the word as...

an ancient Hebrew unit of capacity equal to about 10¹/₂ or later 11¹/₂ bushels or 100 U.S. gallons (378 liters)

...in addition to the obvious slang, which it also defines.
