I transferred all my CDs to a Flash Drive and inserted it in the USB port.
Now I have all my CDs playing on my radio.

Which is a stupid idea if you ask me; CD technology probably costs nothing to produce nowadays, and there are still billions of perfectly functional CDs out in the world.
If I run across an album that's a bit too scratched up and I want a new one, they'll likely cost $30 to $60 instead of the $5 to $10 I paid for them.
Quote: EvenBobIn the '80s and 90s I used to listen to talk radio in my car and I had a big box full of cassettes by people like Joseph Campbell and Alan Watts. I always listened to stuff when I drove but now I never listen to anything and I don't know why. My vehicle has a really expensive aftermarket Alpine Stereo setup with like 14 speakers throughout the van and I never even turn it on. Something about me has changed in the last 30 years.

It is about a sensory break. I listen to podcasts a little less than half the time and occasionally the ball game on the way home from work on Sundays in fall. I will put in podcasts when I take a convertible ride or else the mix station geared to suburban males of the 70s-90s. Rest of the time I like the quiet since you get so little of it anymore.
At home not so much, I almost always have background sound going.

I like figuring things out in my head a lot more than I used to. Projects I have upcoming or that other 'thing' that I'm always talking about. Can't do it if I have lots of sound coming in. When I do occasionally turn something on it's almost immediately irritating and I turn it off.
Quote: ChumpChangeI just got SiriusXM radio for my car and there's over 100 stations. I don't know where to start but I can set a few presets and turn the knob to scroll through the channel numbers but eventually my discount service will expire and I may have to resort to just streaming it over my 5G phone. I can't change the station on my phone while I'm driving, so I'll have to use a rest stop to change the channel when it comes to that. You know, they change the DJ at the top of the hour and suddenly everything you were listening to isn't the same anymore. I hear SiriusXM may decommission their satellite radio by 2027 anyway because everybody will be streaming on their 5G phones by then. It may be $10-$15 cheaper per month to stream but just what is a car radio worth nowadays?

If you lined up 10 women for a million dollars I couldn't tell you which one was Taylor Swift. If you offer to give me $10 million dollars to name one of her records I would have no idea. If I've ever heard one of her songs I wasn't aware of it. Modern music mostly sucks as far as I'm concerned. It all sounds the same. Ever notice that when they score a movie it's always with music from the '60s '70s or even the '80s but never anything newer than that. That's because of the 90s everything started going super downhill.
Gotta say I admire and respect her for how she's handling her career and life, both professionally and privately: classy act.
No doubt the suits in sin city would give their left nut for her to do a residency there, ala Celine Dion; I can also envision her having a long run at The Sphere.
As they say: "The world is your oyster," Taylor.
You go, girl...
I see good things for another up and comer, Olivia Rodrigo.

I have no idea about any of her song but wow she handles the business side of things perhaps even better than Madonna did. This year she would book back to back dates so as to sell out twice, no need to break down and reset everything. I talked to guys who' wives spent $2K on ticket to go with their daughters. Saw young women dressed to the nines to go to the show. It looked silly them walking across the dirt parking lots but they were into it big.
If I would have known I would have tried to buy tickets to scalp.

There are countless movies and TV shows that use newer music. You just don't watch them because you're in the wrong demographic.
Another counter to your point, I remember back before 2000 or so, '60s music was all over movies, and there were multiple oldies stations that played music from the '50s and '60s. Now you hardly ever hear '60s music in movies, and the oldies stations have been gone for years.
I will agree with you that '70s and '80s music is still super popular, though.

The thing there is early 70s music was kind of a peak in the way the industry handled it. Back then they took time to "build an album" and give it the right push. This kind of ended with the disco era. At that time the record industry was in very, very hard times. The music video era saved it, then later CDs which made people buy that early 70s music for a second time. But then you did not build your album, you got a hit video and lots of one-hit wonders.

I'm pretty sure TV shows will be trying to lean on no composers at all, and just ai. How that will go, I don't know. But machines are cheap.
link to original post
I think for the majority of TV shows and movies, AI would work just fine for music. Obviously huge films like Star Wars, Marvel, and other blockbusters or big movies probably benefit from "human scored" music, but for the average TV show and random low budget movies that go straight to streaming, where the music is only there to fill silence or punctuate action, I think some cheap generic AI music would work just fine.

great point
they now need 12 employees per shift on their floor to maintain the bots
when before they needed 75 per shift to lift, push, pull and walk the products to the trucks (a very, very long way) and then load them into trucks

I bought one of the better one's (not a Roomba) that actually scrubs/Mop the floors and that thing sucked bad, I finally got fed up and tossed it into the garage.Quote: rxwineQuote: avianrandyBut when robots break down, humans have to fix and maintain them. I bought a mid-level Roomba and so far I'm pretty happy with it. I'd previously bought a bargain brand one that my dog thought was a sparring partner. It didn't clean well, but it entertained my dog.

My sister says she has much better results when visiting children are trained to drive the vacuum around like a remote control car, cleaning messes as they go.
Now what need is a scanner in the kitchen. Every time I empty a supply, I scan the bar code and it’s added to a grocery list for resupply. Except, ideally, a tiny robot scanner would cruise the kitchen cabinets and shelves and update the list. Plus open the fridge and inventory that as well.
Welcome to the “Jetsons” type future. Er, eventually.

Not to be outdone, alumni at another school hire athletes to deliver food to food banks. They pay them $600 an hour, or $3,000 a week.
A Senior HS offensive lineman being recruited by a top program can expect to make over $100,000 next year as a freshman.
It's not our Daddys NCAA.
How long until some student-athletes refuse to graduate just so they can keep the perks? Think about it. The average top-twenty team has about thirty seniors who won't be going on to play on Sundays.

Shows you how much people's values can differ. I wouldn't even spend a dollar on any of them for a sports program. Good thing for them, there are people that will.
yeah, I paid a little more than that since it was both a vacuum and floor scrubbing Mop. Not one that just has a pad bur actual brushes with a clean and dirty water tank. We only have one room with carpet and I purchased flooring for that but after doing one room myself I decided to wait and have someone else do the rest. I figured a automated floor vacuum and mop would be best. Until they come up with a much better self cleaning and waxing unit, I won't be getting one.Quote: DRichQuote: AxelWolfI bought one of the better one's (not a Roomba) that actually scrubs/Mop the floors and that thing sucked bad, I finally got fed up and tossed it into the garage.

It's nice to hear about guys who went to little schools and overcame tremendous odds to play on Sunday. I think there are still parts of the country that people care more about the NCAA than the NFL, so being tied to a local school helps. Mention Notre Dame, and ten million Subway Alumni get excited.

I think it totally depends on what your floor plan is. If you have a lot of furniture that it can get stuck under it's going to get stuck every time. So you would literally have to go around and make your entire house Roomba friendly and to me it just wouldn't be worth it. Look at the houses in the advertising who actually lives like that.
Look at the furniture in these places, there either isn't any or it's so high off the floor the robot can easily fit under it. This isn't my house, it wouldn't last five minutes in my house without getting stuck. Plus it'll probably have a cat riding around on it, LOL
Quote: AZDuffmanWatching a little football today and something I have been wondering. Does anybody really care what college these guys came out of? They have always said it, "3rd year out of Notre Dame" and such. But really, who cares other than a small amount of school boosters if even they do?

I do. It helps me understand the coaching philosophies of the different schools. Of course, I watch so much college football that I can probably tell you what school 80% of the NFL players went to. It is also interesting to hear where some of the "unknown" players came from.
Could a wide receiver from a small school like Mississippi Valley State every be successful in the NFL? How about a QB from Louisiana Tech? How about a running back from Jackson State in Mississippi? How about a lineman from Sonoma State?

Not a huge surprise as marijuana was the gateway drug to legalization. Ill effects to that may or may not be seen, it will be another 20 years before we can say. But that it has not brought violence or visible problems means other legalizations will keep following.I expect meth and cocaine to eventually follow.

I'm trying not to get controversial (I'll take a penalty if it's due)...
I see a difference between essentially a raw domestic agricultural product (marijuana or mushrooms) and a refined product (like hashish, cocaine, or meth).
There does seem to be some vaguely similar precedent; homebrewing a batch of beer is fine, but refining through home distilling is frowned upon.
Maybe cocaine & meth will get legalized, but I doubt it.
