Amazing that despite multiple subsequent roles in many stage and screen vehicles, it is as Mary Ann that she will be remembered. Gilligan's Island touched America deeply.

Oh no! I don't make a big deal about every celebrity death, but all those related to Gilligan's Island are worthy of a tribute.

I've always found it funny how when you ask any man, Ginger or Mary Ann, almost always the answer is Mary Ann. I can't think of a single exception.

Always the ideal long-term woman and a native of Reno to boot. RIP Mary Ann, Dawn.

That's probably because she is more attractive.

Nope. I've asked this question of women, but with the male characters, and they sometimes say, "I find none of the men attractive, I'd take Mary Ann." Of course, I go off on a big defense of the Professor, but it doesn't help.

The NYPost has an article entitled “Tina Louise (Ginger) reveals the TRUTH about Dawn Wells.” I was expecting something scandalous or surprising. When you open the article it says (paraphrasing) “Dawn was as wonderful and kind as you expected. She was a great person and a cherished friend.” I guess the clickbait got me but happy to read something positive and nice.

I always was suspicious of Gilligan and the Skipper close relationship. I mean 15 years on an island?

And then they desired to simply return and continue their lifestyle?

Ms. Wells was in a classic horror movie- The Town that Dreaded Sundown. I was lucky enough to see it at a drive-thru in 1976/77 and again a few years later at the now legendary Uniondale Mini-Cinema. In the days before Halloween reinvented the horror genre, it was an outstanding film. I see they made a remake which is easily available but the original is well worth hunting down

I was saddened to hear about Dawn's death yesterday. I had the pleasure of meeting her back in 1983 or possibly 1984. At the time I was the manager of a small movie theatre on Hollywood Blvd. She and a couple of her girlfriends came in one day, to watch whatever movie we were showing at the time. I was able to chat with her for a few minutes after the show, before she left. As you might expect, she was an absolute doll.

I'm not too big on autographs, but I guess I asked her for hers since she gave it to me, which of course I still have. ("Ed, A special hello! - Dawn Wells") Like many people, I literally grew up watching reruns of Gilligan's Island.

Because she was four years younger than Louise, I always figured Dawn would eventually be the last surviving cast member of the show. Nope. Not anymore.

I also met Teri Garr and Gretchen Corbett at that same theatre. Hopefully they are both doing okay.

The show was intended to be a "throwaway show" or one of those shows the networks put up expecting to fail fast but the budget has already been spent on more promising shows and they need something to fill the time. It tested awful until the theme song was added, then people liked it. The professor and Mary Ann did not even have an opening credit in the early episodes.

I went to a live reunion show many years ago. Sherwood Schwartz was asked why the first season wasn't in color. He said color film was readily available at the time and the network didn't have enough faith in the show to spend the extra money on it.

You may recall GI was one of those shows that started in B&W and ended in color. Another was Bewitched.

Gilligans first season was in 1964, when most network shows were still B&W. It went to color in 1965, the first season that a slight majority of the shows were in color. By 1967, all shows were in color.

UCSB is called a "Party School" by most people who know of it. While this stereotype is true to an extent because there is a lot of partying on the weekends in the neighboring collegetown of Isla Vista; it doesn't mean that all students at UCSB party. There are plenty of students here who don't party at all.

When I went to the University of Iowa the dorm I was in my freshman year was called Burge Hall. Playboy named it the number one party dorm in the country. I don't remember it being particularly crazy, but I also had nothing else to compare it to.

Just for future reference, see how easy it is in the normal course of discussion to accidentally hijack a thread.

I'm sure party schools and alma maters are interesting but really have nothing to do with the death of Dawn Wells.

I was in HS when Gilligan came on,
we ALL wanted Maryann because
it was written that way in the script.
Ginger was almost a pro hooker,
with all the eye makeup, the constant
wearing of cocktail dresses (on a
deserted island), high heels, the
coy flirting all the time. They wrote
Maryann as the epitome of the girl
next door. Pigtails, pretty face,
and a nice ass crammed into short
shorts. At least that's what Dawn Wells
said about her character is an
interview in the 80's.

One of my all time fave camel-toe
